Yes I have used the search facility and none of the methods I have read seem to work on my S3/

I have a 2012 S3 and I have just done my own service as Audi were way too rip-off. Now I have looked online and through this forum and none of the methods seem to work. Pull this for x-amount of time and push that for the same etc etc. I have also tried clearing the service indicator with VCDS but to no avail.

Basically how the hell do you reset the indicator.

VCDS will sort it all out for you.

I know one of the 'spanners' can be removed via the push/pull method, but when it gives you the spanner for 'inspection' i believe its a VCDS job.

For instance, my first service was done the push me pull me method, the second service/inspection couldnt be done this way.

Either way, VCDS definitely sorts it out, I've seen it done with my very own eyes :hubbahubba:

But to be fair, it wasnt very straight forward. I first popped in to a friend with the proper VAGCOM on the stand trolley type thing, proper dealer type, medical computer looking and it wouldnt have any of it. Just wouldnt clear it. We tried repeatedly for around an hour! He is an Audi/VW specialist too, so he knew what he was doing!!

He also tried his multi purpose one still didnt like it.

So i went to a different friend who had literally just bought his VCDS for his new business and he switched it straight off!

So try and make sure its fully up to date is the only thing i could thing of in your position?

I tried that video but nothing happened. Its the service light that I want to clear as the pinging noise every time I start/switch off the car is now doing my head in.

After MY08-09 cars have 2 instances which the spanner comes on. Oil change interval at 10k and Service light at 15k. First can be done via stalk(god knows the way) and the service light has got to be done by VCDS or the like.

I know you're a knowledgeable chap, and i definitely do not want to seem patronising, but heres the walk through on ross-tech.

Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: SRI Reset

May help, i dont know, but that should sort it out.

edit** have a butchers at that video on the ross-tech site, think its the second walkthrough in the video you may need. First would be for earlier cars i think.

+1 VCDS works everytime, had it done twice now to my car. However, you need to be sure to select the correct service reset in the big list, some are for european countries, some are for variable or fixed servicing etc. If you get the wrong one it wont clear it.

VCDS or if not mistaken, i reset mine to the 15,000km by pressing both the knobs on the dash cluster itself for a few seconds and while the ignition is on

where abouts in scotland are you mate?i'm driving up to Glasgow on the 20th, if your any where near that i will use my vcds and reset for you, had to do mine this week.2 minute job.

Hi Mark, here is the VCDS Service Light Reset procedure for MY10 onwards 8P3 A3/S3's. It worked on my MY10 S3 after full servicing at local Indy garage, so fingers crossed will work on your MY12 S3. Paula xx 1) Open VCDS application and connect to vehicle 2) Switch ignition on 3) Click Address 17 INSTRUMENTS and select ADAPTATION 4) Go to CHANNEL box - change number in box to 40 5) Click on READ 6) Go to VALUES box and change value to '0' 7) Click TEST and SAVE 8) Click on YES, confirming you are sure to save changes 9) Carry out identical procedure for channels 40, 41, 53, 55, 02 (in this order) 10) Exit VCDS by clicking DONE, GO BACK and close VCDS 11) Cycle ignition to confirm service reset has been successful.

Nice one, Mark! Glad it worked for you, so this must be the reset procedure for all MY10 onwards A3/S3's. Awwww, I didn't even know there was a wee meet in 'Meldrum, which is pretty close by to me. We're meeting up with friends for the weekend before Chrimbo, so won't be able to make it unfortunately, ..BAH HUMBUG!!! Wish I could have been there. Paula xx

No worries.......I will be rushing around like a blue-a55ed fly anyway....3 S3's to remap in a day is quite alot considering the 8P's can take up to 40 mins just to read them. Oh I gave you some rep points BTW.....coz you is ace....lol

Aww, and you is a darlin'!! Thank you, Sweetie. One of these days when you're up this way again, we'll meet up for sure! xx

i have service due light on mines also,0 days or 5600 miles but its due mot soon. the service its not due till june and when i checked the service oil it says 367days or 8000 miles, am confused with it

is this just the oil filter change? or should i be getting both mot and service done.

If oil service says not due for 'x amount amount of days' then it will be just an inspection this time.

Oil service next time.

Just there so people are pushed to the dealers to be told they need new tyres soon and a bulbs out. So pay us 1 million pounds.

so its just a heads up reminder a bit early then, think ill get it mot and a service together.
