On the VW mk5 Golf you can fit a full size 18" alloy spare wheel in the boot with an OEM acc pack that lifts the boot floor to accomodate it, does such a thing exist for the Audi a3 8P ?

Yes I did that on my MK5 GTi.
Simply buy some stiff blown sytrene and make your own spacer for the boot floor to fit over.

Yes there are parts available from Audi. I have them fitted to my current A3. They are foam items which lock together and raise the floor level to accommodate the full size wheel and tyre.

Someone has asked why should anyone want to do this - if I was half way across France on a Sunday morning with another 200 or more miles to go and got a puncture I would not fancy doing that on a space-saver at 30mph and the chance of finding anywhere open in France or Germany is zero. They still treat Sunday as a rest day.

Further to my earlier post, if you visit a dealer the parts should be shown on page 863-085 of their ETKA Parts Catalogue. Items 20,21 and 22 (part numbers 8P4 864 501 ?). When I originally purchased mine back in 2009 the I think the cost was around £40.00.

Looking at the 8P4 part code, does this mean it's only available for the sportback model?

Is it likely to be available for a 3 door too?

I had a puncture recently and hated having to potter about at such slow speeds and avoid dual carriage ways until the repair was carried out. A full size spare would have saved me a lot of time so I'm hoping there is the same option available for the 3dr counterpart.

Don’t forget to fit a symmetrical tread pattern tyre else you’ll have a 50% chance of having to get it reversed in the rim before you can use it if you go for an asymmetric pattern.

Looking at the ETKA parts catalogue it is listed for the 3-door as well. Same parts numbers but starting 8P0.
