Audi 55reg quattro load vibrating at 2 thousands revs

I've had the same problem on a 06 170 tdi quattro and it was the dougnut between the prop shaft and the haldex unit. Seems to be a common fault. There are threads on here. Not the cheapest problem for you guys.
hope this helps!

Bad news guys that 123spares.co.uk sent me an email telling me they cannot order the part and have fully refunded me (took 8 days for them to know that so I'll never use them again) I just ordered mine with Audi for £255 (I tried my hardest to push for a discount still but it still hit my wallet hard.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" that sucks :(

Ah well at least you will get it fixed. My Wife's170 had teh same problem and when I bought my car it came with a damper but I dodn't thnk it needed it so I gave it to her and it got fitted when the car was in at the specalist for service, totally ransformed the car. Now mine does need it and I am not hearing any vibes that anyone wants to buy me a damper so I guess I am buying my own but wishing I hadn't given it away now :( again,

Yeh had a bad feeling they may fail aquiring one, as its marked on the lemforder website that they aren't for seperate uk sale.

I can't beleive Lemforder would be so fussy as to which EU country they will sell it to!?!?!

Anyhows as an update I have fitted the new Donut and its totally fixed my problem the car drives superb again, I was going to take pics but sadly my phone was dead! my original donut was solid and had no movement at all, also the rubber had quite a few cracks in it it was only when I compared it with new one you could see just how bad it was lol. Just as a tip you will need to drop the exhause from its rubber hangers and the only tools you will need are a 10mm multispline socket and a 16mm spanner and a medium sized bar, the prop shaft will shift foward about 15cm or so to allow movement to remove bolts and drop donut, if you get stuck just PM me :)

I have also fitted a new doughnut yesterday, definetly the correct part for post 07 even though Etka is very misleading. Problem solved, bit of a pain on the later propshaft design you'll have to drop the center bearing mount to get enough slack in the shaft to allow the doughnut to be removed but other than that easy peasy job.

My old one moved quite easily but was very sticky doing so.

Well I am still trying to get a doughnut on the cheap, been spending enough money on other things and don't really want to do full retail on this and maybe my efforts, if successful will help others too.
So I contacted ECP (Eurocarparts), they don't list the part so I E.Mailed Lemforder (maker) who said ECP, GSF(German Swedish and French) and FSP (No Idea) all have accounts with them although they do not sell direct to the public themselves, so I would need to go through one of them.
Spoke to ECP first as I had spoken to them previously but it seems if they don't list the part in their own parts lists they can't order it, got the same answer, almost from both of the other 2 with the exception of FSP (who I hadn't heard of before) who said they don't sell to the general public either and before I could suggest opening an account with them, the guy checked and said "we wouldn't be able to supply it anyway as we don't list it".
So I have re-E.Mailed Lemforder for suggestions, doubt I will get much further but in the meantime I was thinking, are Lemforder the only supplier?
I seem to remember reading somewhere there was another one, maybe Febi Bilstein?
Also anyone got any experience of ordering things from abroad, could I for instance get it on German E.Bay?
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas.info appreciated, cheers.

If you fancy a trip to Eastleigh in Hampshire, I know that Trade Parts Specialists down here sell them for roughly £146, as I recently inquired about buying one. I'm pretty sure I've got the same issue you have. I've had my Haldex disconnected for the last couple of weeks because of it. An RS4 tried to drag me off at a set of lights yesterday. I forgot I didn't have traction control, let alone four wheel drive. Needless to say, my performance was pitiful and embarrassing, as a span my front axel while he tore off in to the distance. Cracking laugh though. We both arrived at the next set of lights with big cheesy grins.

Shouldn't make any difference if the haldex is disconnected or not as the doughnut still rotates and it still subjected to the same harmonic vibrations which produce the noise if not damped. Mine certainly made no difference between haldex engaged and open. I don't think it would be the same part either for £146 and that's over half price and whilst tps are decent they aren't that good!

The febi-bilstein listed is the front doughnut which is a different design and widely avaliable for peanuts.

There's a reason that the price is so high and its the same reason they are VAG oem supply only.

I ahve said this before and been wrong but each time I am more determined. there must be a way round it?
No harm trying ayway!

Don't get too excited, I havew found someone who can supply these cheaper but not as cheap as I would have liked; Welcome to German Auto Spares - German Auto Spares - suppliers of VAG Febi Car Spare Parts These people can do them and you can negotiate a good discount but theor list price is the same as Audi, so there's still a long way of negotiation to do for me. The guy I spoke to was very helpful and I may end up using them still going to keep trying for something cheaper. Thought it was worth sharing in caseanyopne needs one quickly :)

Fancy trying to organise a group buy?

was talking to the indy the other in relation to this problem, and i think there is a super pro or powerflex bush to replace it which is stiffer and doesn't crack as much, other option is VW make a better one on their touareg if not mistaken.. sadly though in AUS you have to get the whole propshaft, just to get the bushing

Would be up for GB!
Some dealer here seem to be doing the same with A3s i.e. you need to buy the whole propshaft. I did wonder about other VAG group cars and even Volvos and things that have Haldex, propshafts will be different lengths etc but dampers are bolt on so could be the same. A guy on here even had a go at softening the rubber with hors linament or something, wasn't a sucess but I had wondered, what softens rubber?
So up for a bit of thinking out of the box but sooner or later I will need this more than I do now, so something concrete wouldn't go amiss, (could I make one out of concrete, nah don't be so stupid!) cheers :)

Still on the trail of these, have tracked down a supplier who has 2 on order, obviously I want one, any takers for the other?
Not sure on price yet but should be a good bit less than Audi Dealer price and I believe a genuine part, well Lemforder who make the originals for Audi.
I interested PM me your details and when I get any more info I will let you know, got to be 1st come 1st served though but if there are a few I will try to get another order on the go assuming it all goes OK first time round.

As I said before, I just walked into Highland Audi in Inverness and gave them the part number and they ordered it.
Strange that it now can't be ordered now? Mine was a 55 plate 140 TDi.

Audi part no. - 1K0521307A @ 201 + vat.

I bought the 6 bolts that hold it on also just to make the job easier.

It's not that you can't get them, it's the price the dealers take to supply them, I was quoted £360 odd by Stoke Audi, that must have been before they applied the discount. The dealers clearly control the supply and price, even to independent suppliers, you can but them in Europe much cheaper, so why not the UK with T'internet and all that. I just don't think it's worth the money but them I don't need it desparately yet, therefore I can afford to try to get one cheaper :)

OK, this is the information I am hoping everyone's been waiting for :) the company I have been dealing with is below, my damper arrived today as promised and is exactly what I wanted, genuine Lemforder as supplied and fitted originally by Audi, price is somewhere around £150, I would take that to be plus Vat and carriage but phone just to confirm, he only has limited numbers at the moment so if you need one best be quick, here's a link to their website, Jason Hunter is the guy I dealt with; All German Parts

Fitted this at the weekend, what a difference!
I was beginning to feel I had some kind of weird rev limited at 2,200 RPM and founf myself constatnly weatching the rev counter and changing before it got to 2,200 and the vibration started, didn't help that I had been reading about engine swaps (not considering this incidentally for the A3) and they were stressing the improtance of getting the drivetrain angles correct to prevent vibration and premature wear of gearbox components, no I do not want to buy a new Haldex any time soon. Anyway big smiles all round and would recommend if you are in any doubt, just change it, well worth it, this is what the car's supposed to be like :) :) :)

Has anyone tried pulling the haldex fuse. When I pull the haldex fuse the vibration between 2k and 2.5k go's away

Such a great help this entire thread, had same issue on my 06 a3 tdi read about the prop shaft coupling and ordered from all german parts which they did me for 100+ vat delivered, fitted on my drive which was a bit of a fiddle on my own but did it in around an hour and car now drives 100% 👍👍👍

Cheers Rich, glad people are finding it useful.

Paul, If you pull the Haldex fuse you will be running on 2wd, hence no vibration, fuse back in 4wd = vibration, does that sound correct?

Sorry to bump an old thread, does anyone know if removing the haldex fuse is a good way of diagnosing this?

Thx
Neil

I'm afraid no fuse will help. You must replace the doughnut. I did disconnect the haldex controller on mine before and for what ever reason it was quieter but I wouldn't recommend doing it just buy the doughnut :)

Is there anything wrong with leaving the car as it is? Is it damaging to it?

I did leave mine for about a year before I got round to replacing it, appeared to have no damage just the pain of listening to the vibration sound Daily. :bye:

Cheers neil, did it sort your problem?
Yeah car has been spot on since. Part is genuine Lemforder. Delivered by DPD with full online tracking.
Thought the service was really good as I'd tried to order same part 2 other times from different places only to be told it's not available.

Just had my order cancelled by 123spareparts, going to try the ebay one from allgermanparts.

ok, so I took my car into a reputable local vag specialist today who couldn't pinpoint the noise and when I asked him to inspect the doughnut he couldn't see any degradation.

I've ordered the part now, so am pretty committed to doing the work, but can anyone confirm that a visual inspection might not pick up on the issue?

Incidentally, gsf now appear to be supplying the doughnut, and with their regular offers can be had for ~£130

Damper has arrived, its made by febi bilstein, I thought OE was lemforder, anyone clear this up for me? Are they both equal spec?

Thanks

Hello!
I own a Skoda Octavia Scout from 2008.
The reason I am writing here is that this car is very similar to Audi/VW.
I have a problem with my Flexible disc that is mounted on the propshaft and the rear differential.

This results in very big vibrations in low rpm´s, from 1000 rpm to 1500rpm under load.

I have bought number 18 in this picture with Art.nr 1K0521307A
from Febi bilstein, their art.nr is 40931

No problem there, and I was going to replace it tomorrow on a friends column lift.

I was then reading on Elsa, that there is two different propshafts.
One that is "one-piece" and one that is "two-piece"

In the section "one-piece" propshaft I read this that made me kind of nervous if it is possible.

Flexible disks to propshaft and corresponding fixing screws are not supplied as spare parts. Thus in
case of damage, the entire propshaft must be replaced

In the section "two-piece" propshaft there is this message.

During the manufacture, the entire propshaft is balanced, in order to obtain the smoothest running
possible. The balancing of the entire propshaft or the individual propshaft pipes is not possible with
workshop tools. It is therefore essential to always replace the entire propshaft in case of damage to the
front or the rear propshaft pipe.

Here is the pdf to the two-piece propshaft instructions

And here is the pdf to the one-piece propshaft
http://thedude.ath.cx/owncloud/index.php/s/Wr24NHfvJp1ijeh

Here is also the diagram for propshaft article numbers.

I was of course under the impression that it was possible to replace the flexible disc, why else would there be an article number in ETKA?
Someone who can point me in the right direction here?
I have seen a couple of you that have replaced it, but maybe you had another propshaft than me?

I am hoping someone could help me out here.

Thanks in advance!

The propshafts used on the Audi's are both two piece so it's difficult to say as the only difference on a haldex A3 between the two shafts is the type of center joint used.

Audi don't supply a separate coupling for the later shaft and state that it must be changed as a complete unit but the joints are identical and can be changed on both it's just that Audi only supply a complete unit.

Also be aware the front and rear joints are different so make sure you have the correct one, the fronts are usually a lot cheaper.
