Anyone experience problems with their autos? My car is a 2.0 fsi auto tiptronic. Usually runs fine but from time to time recently it has started to jerk and slam into gear. The revs will ride high then slam into the next gear. Its not good. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Theres no warning lamp or anything come up on the dash when this happens. Thanks

Yeah would help us mate as not sure if its tfsi or fsi.

Get the box calibrated with someone with vcds, maybe look to see if its been serviced at all, every 40k usually on earlier wet boxes.

If its not this helping, then mechatronic box is the 1st thought, but do other things 1st.

Cheers. I think il get it sorted and sell it. First and last auto for sure.

Don't let one problem put you off DSG, even manuals have their problems. The DSG box is a nifty bit of kit, I'm on my first DSG car and would never go back to a manual if it could be helped

Exactly, manuals have multitude of issues aswell, part of owning cars unfortunately.

Yeah I suppose its just how much it will cost to put it right. Like I say 90% of the time it runs like a dream its just recently started with the jerking. I will update the post soon as I get it sorted.

Have you had it scanned at all to see if it throws up any fault codes? How long you had the car for? Has the DSG box ever been serviced?

Where are you based mate? Have you looked through the service book to see if it says anything?

Im in bolton. Ive not fully looked through it. The lady who had the car before me would of been clueless to have anything done to it so I think its time it was looked at and seviced. Im just wary with autos because they can be pricey

I'm in Horwich, just by Middlebrook. Where abouts in Bolton are you? I could scan it for you but it'd be weekend probably as I'm working in Devon all week, which garage have you booked in with?

There's a good garage in Kearsley that I use called VAGBolton, think they charged me £150 for a DSG service. I'd scan it with VCDS mate, it'll show any faults if any. What's your mate going to do to it?

I might take it there then pal because thats resonable. How much you want for scan it with vcds? Could do with doing that then taking it from there. Well it needs a few things doing to it so hes servicing it, replacing the cat and getting to the bottom of a few other minor problems

Beer tokens would be fine mate. Have a look on their website, sure it was £150. I've had a few things done there, how many miles has your car done? If your mates looking it over then I'd get him to check the HPFP cam follower and the diverter valve

Yes mate or we could meet up somewhere, I'm not fussed. I'll have to let you know later in the week as this job might be running over into the weekend which means I won't be home until next weekend, joys of the horrible weather we're having. If it's done 67k then you definitely need your DSG serviced and the HPFP cam follower changing, your mate should be able to change the follower and I would definitely get the revision D diverter valve fitted. Also you need to check if your cambelt has been changed and when as that is due too if never been done, check your service book to see if it mentions anything

Theres no rush mate just when ever your free. Cheers il be sure to mention all of the above to him when I take it there.

how can I tell if the car is DSG? Im being told it will be on the gear lever but it isnt. So am I right to presume it isnt a DSG? Sorry im new to all this.

Well it's either manual or automatic, what did Audi say it is? I don't understand to be honest
I asked is it direct shift gearbox but he said it isnt just 6 speed auto. I think the dsg is on the TFSI of the same year car.

Post a photo of your gearbox, I don't understand all this DSG, S-Tronic, auto difference crap I really don't. Maybe somebody else can enlighten us. I thought you had a TFSI? As far as I thought, it was VW that used the DSG name and Audi the S-Tronic. Anybody correct me???

ive taken my car to a VAG guy. he ran diagnosis and found no faults with the gearbox. hes put a new brake light switch on and its made no difference. once the engine has been running fir roughly 20 mins the gear slamming starts. the guy said he will change the oil and filter for 250 but he cant be 100 percent that this wil solve the problem. i do not know what to do at all. any ideas???????

I thought there was something wrong with mine when I first bought it and for some time after actually as well. Exactly the same issues as you have described. I found that it wasn't the car, it was my driving style! The DSG box can be very touchy at times and you have to be gentle with it, get used to using it when driving round town in lower gears. The revs do ride high in certain lower gears, you have to give it enough gas to change gear and then go easy with it. There is a way to get it to transfer gears smoothly and it's all in your right foot! Very hard to explain but hope this helps!

i understand what your saying but this is more to it. my gearbox isntt the dsg its the older one its the 09G gearbox. once the engine is warm i can put my foot on the brake to activate the gearlevel and as i put it into say reverse the whole car shunts. im hoping that its just the oil needing changing and not anything more. i have herd that these 09G gearboxes can be problematic though.

£250 is expensive, where did you take it? Try VAGBolton in Kearsley, they charge £150. You didn't get any fault codes at all?

thats where i took it pal. he said its 250 because it isnt a dsg its a bigger job. to be fair im taking it to my mate to do for less than half the price of that. no there was no faults whats so ever. but he thinks because the oil is of poor quality that the things are sticking inside the gearbox. i really do hope it is this because theres no chance im buying a new gearbox for the thing.

I thought the Dsg was the hardest box to service? Audi charged me £165 18 months ago.

i think that guy at vagbolton was more interested about taking my money rather than getting my car sorted. ive got my mate to do the oil and filter change. il let you know how i get on with it

Yeah there's 2 guys there, one of them seems a **** but the other is ok. They've always done good work for me at a good price and helped my mrs out when I was working away when she had some problems with the car, that price does seem expensive to me and I wouldn't of paid it myself. Hope you get it sorted buddy

Any news on this Jimmy? My A3 2.0 FSi tiptronic (not dsg) has just started doing exactly the same as you describe - violent jerking between gear changing and red lining a lot. Then it'll go for a long period acting fine.

ive been really busy and ive not had chance to get it sorted yet still. im just hoping that this oil change will do it. i was worried about the gearbox being knackered but to think its fine when its first started to then playing up once its warm makes me think that the oil is of poor quality and its sending the gearbox into a mind of its own. as soon as i get it done il let you know. another thing as well is ive rang around a few places asking them what they know regarding this 09G gearbox and most of them said they have never herd of this type of gearbox being in the 2005 2.0 fsi 6 speed, ive no idea why that is.

Sounds like high clutch packs burnt out.
When you scan it does it say "no or little communication from gearbox"?

There's no faults on the diagnosis. If that was burnt out would it not happen as soon as you set off? It's only when it's warm you see.

Doesnt come up as a fault/code as such ,just says there is no or little communication with gearbox.
