Hi as title, managed to brake a plastic part in my dsg selector and have sourced a replacement selector. How easy is it to remove it? I may even just be able to get to the broken part if I taken out the armrest then centre console area?

The gear unit comes out from underneath, so exhaust of, which may or may not require cat with, heat shielding etc its not the easiest job.

Uh oh. Doesn't sound good. It was when removing my ashtray I dropped one of the screws and thought it had gone to heaven. Found out it hadn't when I pushed the selector up 
They're not exactly small bolts either, so you should be able to get it out with some double sided tape & a coat hanger.

Oh feck me, I have a dsg unit I bought for research, the units cost £450 from audi, you could probably strip them down & swap part over, PM if interested I'll tell you what I paid for it.
I had to replace one a few years ago on my 1st a3 paid £300 from main dealer and wasn't that bad to Change actually, as said it comes out from underneath, drop exhaust from manifold and push the heat shield to one side this is how I did it.
