Hi all. My new project arrived today. Joined this forum so I could get some ideas for it & after getting halfway through Prawn's track car thread I think I know the direction it's going.

It's a 1998 A3 1.8t with the AGU engine. Was bought cheap over the phone so the first time I saw it in the metal was today when it arrived on a truck......

My bad <tuffty/>....... have figured out where I went wrong with the pics

Interesting body kit and twin exit exhaust its got fitted.

Has it been modifiied in any other ways do you know?

Damage shouldnt be too hard to fix as you can just ditch the smic`s and fit an fmic instead. the bumber may be harder to find unless you go back to standard

I hate bodykits as a rule but I do like the twin exhaust! Have fun with that mate, should be a good project

Not a fan of kits myself but I do like the rear with the twin pipes. Some trawling of the web later & I've identified the kit. it's a fiberglass copy of a Zender concept kit. I'm thinking a S3 front bumper might match pretty well with the rear. know very little about the car as it only arrived this evening as we were closing up. It's going on a ramp first thing in the morning so I should get a better idea what I'm dealing with then. Fingers crossed I don't find anything too nasty.......

Best colour
Best year
Best engine
Best looking OE wheels
Best price (cheap)

THis will be full of win I'm sure :)

Whole car cost me around £250. Was going to be scrapped but I got there first. Add to that the £80 or so it cost me to get it transported from the west of Ireland to Dublin & I think I've bagged something of a bargain :D

proper bargain that mate good work :)

I love reading threads like these as it owes you peanuts so its a win win win.

Got the car on a ramp at work this morning. Nothing nasty to report. This is starting to look like a proper steal :)

Engine dry as a bone.....

Exhaust is a custom Remus item & not some backyard bodge job

Wanted to take a test run in the car but no intercooler...

So found a piece of Izuzu trooper exhaust that looked like it might fit,

Hooked up my little Launch Diagun but didn't get time to do much of a run cos some customers turned up!

This car was imported from the UK at some stage. Was wondering does anyone on here recognize it or know any of the history of it. The bodykit & exhaust look to have been done to a high standard. Won't have the original uk reg until next week when I get the logbook back for it.

Who says motoring costs the earth ! Nice one mate......

You got a budget or mods in mind??? Track car or daily??

Sean

I'm using Prawn's track monster as inspiration for this. Have a complete TT subframe, hubs, brakes, wishbones, ARB & steering rack sorted although i'll be waiting a few weeks for it as it's a friend doing me a favour bringing it from the other end of the country. Engine wise I want to base it around a GT2871R turbo & uprate everything else to suit. I'm looking to get a reliable 300-320BHP out of it. Going to take my time with this so bits will be got as funds become available

This little fella eating up most of my cash at the moment....... :)

Would be nice if it was an ex member car. was looking through the pic thread but gave up after 6 or 7 pages!

Thanks for taking the time to look though. Ok folks, I'm looking for opinions, should I source another Zender bumper & keep the kit complete or bring it back to standard or S3 front?
Here's the bumper not mangled.....

Thankfully you need to replace that :)

I like the rs4 style side grills on the bumper, but other than that its horrid! Go for a normal a3 bumper .......... Plenty about and cheap

Sean

It is a pity about the front bumper, skirts & rear are nice & subtle but the front looks like it belongs on a ricer! Wouldn't mind a s3 bumper & mold those side grills into it. I have the broken piece from the front with the side grills intact.

In my opinion don't make a car something it wasn't originally.
Either keep it OEM, or make it your own unique design, but don't make an A3 look like an S3.
That yellow car looks nicely modified.

Finally got some work done to the car. First up a small but extremely annoying thing. When I got the car the key that came with it was smashed in bits

After a bit of hunting on flea bay I came across a brand new key casing for the princely sum of £4 plus postage

Rather than find someone to cut the new blade for the key I knocked out the little roll pin securing the blade to the pivoting part of the key. Surprisingly even though it's not a genuine part the blade fitted perfectly.

Now the nerve wrecking bit....the immo chip. Why VAG cars have such a brittle little chip is beyond me. Vauxhall/Opel ones are constantly falling out of the keys but they are a chunky bit of plastic, not a little tube.....

After some very delicate trimming the transponder came away

At this point the phone I was taking the pics with decided to die so no more pics. The chip fits perfectly in the new key & after transferring over the pcb & batteries from the remote part I now have a practically brand new key, for a fraction of main dealer price :D

Also this week, this arrived :)

So this evening I decided to trial fit it......

Before anyone says anything the cable tied reg plate & headlamp were temporary measures so I could drive the car the 10 miles from where I had it stored to my house..... :whistle2:

Nice find :o.k:

Is it just me... but I've always thought that those exhausts which have an extra pipe coming out of the back box to go round to the other side not just act as if the back box is blowing?.. Im pretty sure your not moaning about that anyways as its a bargain!

Thought I'd better update this. Hate threads that go nowhere! Unfortunately the A3 was too badly damaged body wise to be worth repairing :(

On a happier note the running gear was in very good shape & has found a new home here.....

Audi's AGU fitted with Motronic 7.5 conversion
