Hi all,

This isn't really a WIP, but i thought i'd share with you my car. I picked her up around 6 weeks ago from a garage near me. Its a 2.0 TDi 170 S-Line Avant Quattro in Lava grey (stupidly long title), I was in 2 minds about getting an Audi as i've had Evo's and a few BMW's before hand and for the money you don't seem to get as much but the build quality and ride seem to be better.

My previous Evo

So down to messy business.

Mucky wheels

On with the snow foam! AMDetail Foam, great stuff!

IMG_1233.jpg

APC 1:5 ratio sprayed and a detailing brush into all the small gaps

IMG_1235.jpg

Power washed off

IMG_1236.jpg

IMG_1237.jpg

Down to those alloys! Iron-X applied

Washed off then AMDetail Wheels applied full concentration and agetated

All dried off and AMDetail Seal applied.

Since i've had the car, i've thought the brakes were pants, and was also told the car was fitted with DS2500 pads all round, turns out that was crap. So got some new rear discs and EBC greenstuff pads. I would have gone for red, but this isn't a racer and it just needs a slight upgrade from standard, i've used greenstuff on previous cars (not the evo's) with good results! So took the wheels off the rear and started.

Mucky wheel arch and rotten disc

Snow foam and heavy brush down

All clean and discs/pads fitted! Also re-painted the callipers

IMG_1243.jpg

So car's nice and clean

Interior clean

LED rear number plate lights fitted

Hopefully my S4 callipers will turn up soon then to get new discs and pads for them :) Proper stopping power ;) As frankly these cars have terrible brakes.
Regards
Steve

Very Nice Mate.....like it alot.

Iron X is superb stuff...

Very nice, really like that Lava grey, which LED number plate lights have used- any issues with them

Thanks for the comments. Kept me busy for a few hours this afternoon :) The lights are the ones tiffy put the link to on his thread.

The area's lovely, I'm an Englishman living in Scotland but could easily settle here if it wasn't for the forces.

Yeah my sentiments, looks like a lovely peaceful place.

I might be missing something but I can't see the link for the LED plate lights on any of Tiffys posts, can you point the way?
Do you have bulb out warning (full DIS)???

No warnings. It is in tiffy's thread, as that's where I got mine from. If you're still struggling later I'll dig out the link but I'm at work.

Yep, They are the LED Number Plate lights i posted a link to....they are a full replacment unit, not just the bulbs. They look Superb at night.....

No error codes either

They're the badgers. Just need front LED side lights and I'll be happy.

Ive just ordered some LED Cree side lights........... Ment to be the bees knees

Just discovered the car has a detachable tow bar too! Although I don't have the actual bar. All the electrics and mounts are there though :)

Have you checked in the Boot/spare wheel well area, someone mentioned recently the Tow hook was stored in there.

I've had a look but there's nothing there :( I don't need to tow anything but it does mean it would be easier to get a jet ski now ;) the misses would kill me though! Lol

Cleans up really well! I've got lights on my shopping list too so i'll need to check those out.

Loving your Evo too - so much love for those cars. Much done to it? I had a 350bhp IV a few years back and loved it - just a shame they are so darned expensive to maintain!

Everything. It was runing 620bhp, 550lbft torque. 2.2 stroker, GT35R turbo, Autronics etc etc. Lots of work. If you go on the MLR, my username is the same and you can see my build thread.

Also want to say a big thankyou to Mark at BroTek, popped round this afternoon to code in the cruise control. Another optional extra added to the car, just DIS and double DIN head unit next and i'll be happy :)

I went for the crees from the seller as he comes on here and i am getting LED fogs from him too.

LED number plates light have arrived, and are in. I'll put a pic up later, when it gets dark.

Initial impression is of good overall quality. The housing is an exact replica of the Audi original, which means it's a right pig to get into place (well, for me it is).

So just a little update, retro fitted DIS after getting myself a rosstech lead and software on the cheap :) don't like paying full price for things that frankly shouldn't need to.

as the brakes are utterly terrible on the TDi 170's I decided to upgrade, and thanks to eBay, a friend in the motor trade and a bit of right place and right time, I got myself a full S4 set up. Callipers arrived today, so got them stripped and sprayed up, pads arrive Monday and disks are on their way!

Still deciding what wheels to get, the TTRS make the car look modern, the RS4's give the car a bit more presence. I hate decisions :(

Like it. Guess I'm gonna need new brakes when I Remap my 140 than

See to be honest, I reckon brake upgrades should be on the cards whether you go for a remap or not.

By far and away the worst standard brakes I've had on any of the cars I've owned over the years, they really are totally inadequate :(

Depends what size are on it now. The 170 Quattro should naturally have larger brakes, but its got the Std TDi ones. Glad I upgraded, i love powerful brakes :)

I'm like you. Brakes give me more confidence to drive faster

Tiffy / Steve, did either of you have any bother getting your LED units to work? I ordered the same ones but when I quickly tried to fit them yesterday..... Nothing!

Will need to give it another bash today and fiddle with the contacts a bit to make sure they're hitting where they should etc but just wondering if there was anything you guys had to do?

Gonna have to try get some replacement screws before I do any more fiddling, the audi ones appear to be made from chocolate!!

Mine worked as soon as i fitted them, not a problem
