2013 Audi S3

Still all very positive on the whole !

One thing I have noticed from these reviews ...

The 0 - 60 mph times are being quoted as quicker than initially thought.

I thought the manual was 5.4 secs, but being quoted as 5.2 secs and the s tronic is being quoted as 4.8 secs, instead of 5.1 secs.
Are these new figures correct ?

The old figures never quite made sense, as one of the transmissions (cant remember which way around) was quoted as 0.1s faster than the sportback, whereas the other was quoted as 0.1s slower. Assuming everything is the same, you'd expect the sportback to always be slightly slower due to extra weight

Yes I noticed that too. I reckon the latest figures are the correct ones as when I had emailed the Autoexpress Road test editor about their quoted pricing - he confirmed it was from official audi information. Also all the recent 1st drive reviews are quoting those same improved 0-62 times so I reckon they must be official. One review says the 4.8s for s tronic matches a Porsche 911 !
So its obvioulsy bit quicker than first thought :)

The key theme from some reviews to me seems that they say the driver involvement isnt quite there?? well if thats that quick and does it so effortlessly then thats no problem for me!

Yeah I agree mate.

Main things for me are performance and quality.
I don't go around thrashing everywhere or need a car which is pin sharp around a race track :)

One of those early reviews nailed it for me when it made reference to the car being "crushingly fast" and commented on the high quality interior.

Just frustrated we can't place an order yet and get in the queue ... especially if we have to wait out till June for that !

Rumours are circulating that the Merc A45 AMG order book will open soon and that deliveries may be possible for July / August ... if that is the case, I may have a decision to make. I will at least look at this as an option and if the figures stack up will give it serious consideration.

If we can't order an S3 till June and they are on a 6 month lead time, we won't see them till December and that is a LONG time to wait.

One other interesting thing I've noticed is all the reviews seem to say available to order now. Assuming we're following the logic above that the info in the reviews has been provided by Audi, it would imply the order book will open very shortly (if it isn't already open)

Defo not available to order yet mate - both Toad and myself have our Dealers on stand by to contact us soon as that is the case.
Dealers don't even have confirmation of price or spec yet.
Audi web site also has price listed as TBC.
Toad's dealer told him that the order date had gone back to June last week I believe.

Yes they're available to order as of Saturday just gone, that's what my dealer stated with first cars been delivered around September to November that was Wakefield Audi that told me that less than an hour ago

REALLY ... wow, sounds like a changing picture then - but great news thanks :icon_thumright:

It was always supposed to be the case that order book opens and prices confirmed in April.
It was just the news from Toad's Dealer that made us think it had all slipped by a couple of months.

Odd how the Audi site has not been updated though yet ?

Sounds like I need to get in touch with my Dealer then !

Good news I'd say! Not that I plan on ordering anything before I can test drive, but the sooner the dealers can get their orders in for demo cars, the sooner I might be able to place an order myself :)

I was thinking about Audi being slow with the site updates, and wonder if it's because of the amount of work required to add a new model to the pricelist, which includes a different set of kit as standard (and presumably different prices for some packages, where elements of it are already included as standard). Still, pretty poor show that they cant manage that in a week!!

Well the dealer said they had ordered a demo car and it would be there by November and that order books were now open but as above I won't order without driving one

TBH the S3 is one car I am comfortable ordering without driving.
I have driven a new A3 and currently have a TTS, so merge the two together and you won't be far away.
Plus the majority of the reviews, also inspire further confidence too.
So no issue for me at all, if Audi would let me give them my order :s3addict:

Well it works right for me anyway as I'm ordering mine for next march when my current finance will be clear

Interesting reading- fingers crossed. NB it was Audi UK Customer services, not my local dealer who told me orderbook opening was being pushed back from April to June. But as Snake pointed out above, if the books had opened I really thought my dealer would have contacted me too? I will check with him tomorrow though.

The only other possibility - as previously suggested to me by my local salesman was putting £500 down to book a slot in the queue , even ahead of spec/pricing release. I was told that this was refundable if I didnt like the final figures - as they could easily use the build slot for another A3 - the only downside I can see is that it doesnt put you in a very good negotiating position for getting any sort of deal as they know you really want the car. But if you can walk away with your £500, perhaps its worth a shot???

I will see what my salesman says this week.

Edit: Another thought, my registered interest is in the S3 Sportback. Is there a difference and the S3 3 door could be available first?

and finally...... I would happily order without driving it, I was able to see one in the flesh and to sit in it at Geneva Motor Show, I have had 2 drives in new A3s and have driven the outgoing S3. With the pretty favourable driving reviews, thats more than enough for me.

My thoughts exactly and that is why I would never put a deposit down to book a slot in a 'virtual' queue !

Realistically, where would it get you anyway ?

Dealer then knows how bad you want the car as you are prepared to put a deposit down at such an early stage ... no way they will give you the best deal then.

They'll get my deposit ONLY when we have agreed a deal.

Same for me, but will they offer deals???

And as for financing what's the best way pcp, hp or just a straight lease with maintainance contract???

Time will tell on what deals they are prepared to offer.
I am sure we will get the "its a new car so no discount" banter to start with, but I can play hard ball too.

As for the method of financing - only you can answer that and depends on what suits your own personal circumstances and what packages the Dealer can offer you for each.

Me I just like straight forward loan / Hp - know where I am and know I will own the car at the end of the term with no balloon.

Yeah that's why I'm not going to order one yet, I may be quite coy when they have one in and let them give me a good deal as the merc garage is directly next door and I'm sure Audi would rather have sales than watch me walk into merc! Will order mine in November for next march and by then any niggles will be sorted and they may do deals although I doubt it

My Dealer advised order book is not open and Audi UK have not issued official prices yet and no word on when this will be.

So assume the Dealers who are willing take deposits are just doing that to try and draw people in.

So the waiting game continues ......

Spoke to dealer this morning who again confirms that order books are definitely not open. No specific date to work to either. They are aware of the press reviews coming out but cannot even confirm those prices in the reviews!

Were they wanting to have them delivered by July? I would have thought that by next month they would want to be taking orders.

You may find it's the other way around. Merc sales are down and they've been throwing money at some fantastic offers across their range. Audi sales figures are flying and they seem less concerned about cutting deals. I guess there will be discounts out there if you really shop around, but my feeling is they'll be harder to come by.

Doesn't looks thatt aggressive/sporty to me, the front end looks like a normal A3?

Perhaps will look better in the flesh, much like the normal 8V A3 does?

S3s have always had similar styling / aggressiveness to the S-line trim - just a few extra touches (chrome usually) to give a hint as to its differences under the bonnet. LED headlights will likely be one of the biggest distinguishing features of the S3 over the A3

That may very well depend on the dealership that you go to and how well they're doing. I've had a few extras thrown in based on the premise I was stood there with a credit card ready to read the numbers out.

It always depends on the dealership I find, but up to a limit. My recent purchase attracted offers ranging from £0 discount to £2200 discount. However, none of them could get anywhere near the £5500 discount offered by Mercedes on a C250CDi.

When the manufacturer offers sweeteners in addition to the dealership, they're generally pretty unbeatable. It all depends if Mercedes throw incentives at this car, although it's unlikely at initial launch.

very odd that the guy at wakefield audi would say it unless like you say they want you to pay a deposit to get yourself into the queue

Yeah and tbh if the order book isn't open how are they going to put your order in the system ?
They just want your money and know they have an almost guaranteed sale when the order book offically opens.
Can hear the salesman now ...

"oh you don't want to lose your place in the queue, you were in there early"
"Discount, oh no, not on this car"

In the meantime....while we patiently await Audi opening the books......Jaguar F Type Review.....

A good review for interesting sports car, but I did notice the 0-60mph time of 4.8s. Thats slower than the S3 S-tronic which is 0-62 in 4.8s.

Sounds nice and looks well, ppl say the looks are understated but I prefer that style rather than chavtastic like what Vxl or ford offer

I'd be inclined to wait for the S3 saloon. My money for the next RS3 in the future will be the saloon model because they have announced that they are not making the RS4 in a saloon so makes sense that the RS3 picks up the fast saloon.

I like the saloon but sportback for me personally, that's what will suit my needs,

Must say I think the S3 looks great in the video above, on real roads ... it DOES sound good too !

Some good camera angles and there is one shot showing the rear of the car and it looks quite impressive with a nice stance.

Good footage of the full LED lights in action too - they look stunning !

The more I see, the more I like.

So that nice sound on gear changes with the s-tronic? (a lot of the driving reviews refer to this)
I wonder whether how the manual will sound on gear change?

Yes its a great video. (NB anorak i know - but it was shot on 16th March - the same day I was at Geneva snapping the S3 there!)

I think this picture has sold me on estoril blue, it looks great .....

I find Estoril blue too dull for me. My personal opinion of course. At the moment I think the Misano red is the one for me.
