Bored tonight so did something I've fancied trying for a while, back lit door triggers.

Easy wee mod if it takes your fancy, I actually quite like it. I'm going to try a wee dab of paint on the tip of the LED to try and defuse the light a bit.

I'm also thinking of maybe an LED or two on the underside of the centre armrest, just to try and extend the red ambient light backwards from the gear lever towards the cubby at the back of the centre console, nothing too bright tho.
Disclaimer, iphone camera not that great at night and hard to capture good pic, they don't do it justice.

I actually quite like the look of that, but agreed, I think they're a little too bright in their current state

Looks good mate.

Where did you take the feed from?

What about what the 3 series BMW's have.....an LED light in the door handle outside that lights up.....Looks really cool

That would be a nice touch, its BMW's version of a puddle light as they don't fit lights in the underside of the doors. I have them on my X5 and they are super bright and illuminate the surrounding ground really well and before you have to get close to the car and open a door.

Just so you guys know, the are a bit like a mini number plate lamp and are LED's, see pic.

use a bit of sandpaper
to dull the led

Thanks for the tip Bez, never thought about that. I've got loads of spare ones so I'll try one of those first:icon_thumright:

They look pretty cool actually! What feeds them??

I took the feed from the wire that feeds the lighting for the window buttons etc so door handles light up when headlights are on.

i am wanting to fit Audi ghost lights in my door like this Logo projektor - Ghost shadow light AUDI LED 004 - YouTube
i have the lights which just have 2 wires running from them i took the door panel off but cant find a live feed to tap into obviously need them to switch off just wondering if the feed you took from the door control for the windows would work ? and where exactly is the feed located ?

Not so sure about the lights you've got but your car and if you like them great, interested to see them tho:thumbsup:

I took my feed from the loom on the door, just before it goes into the multi plug for the window controls. The ground wires are brown but can't remember the colour combination of the wire I tapped onto the the live. I'm assuming you want them to go on with head lights/interior red back lighting? If so then yes they'd work if your lights are a low draw LED thing.
I'll have the other door cards off again shortly to do my other door triggers so can take some pictures/notes for you. Other than that just do as I did and use a multimeter, unplug the plug from the window controls and test which one comes live when you switch the lights on. Brown wires are always grounds on VAG cars plus there's more than one wire going into one connection, I just confirmed this with the multimeter.

Noz,

I would use this guide to fit those lights. Will come on when the doors are opened then, not just when headlights are on!

i love the red ambient light in Audi's and VW, all my resent cars have had the light pack, the current S4 has ambient light pack (front, rear and doors) great late at night on a dark motorway.

I do over 600 miles a week, a lot of that at night (early mornings and late nights) and it always feels cosy in the cabin and looks really classy too. My wife's X5 has similar but its orange light, nice but not as good.

I knew it would be a bit of a Marmite mod but I like them so they're staying:)

I tried sanding the LED to try and soften it as it was shining too bright and reflecting off the underside of the door trim causing bright spots as you can see in the pictures, it was also shining up on to the A pillar which I didn't like. Solution? Dolphin grey touch up paint, a wee dab on the side and top of the LED and now the lights more even and where I want it.

Just 3 more doors to go!!

Did this on my mondeo with green LEDs... you can use the side of a milk carton and stick that over the cut-out which diffuses the light slightly, similar to sanding the LED

looks good man, once u play about with the brightness it will be spot on
