RS3 Replica, Problem with DRL headlights

Shades, the car is looking good fella.

I am a bit confused on one thing, you had it re-mapped yesterday and are having the DPF removec today?? Surely you would if had the DPF removed first and then re-mapped, as the sensors will need to be mapped out, plus mapping a DPF'd car will be different to mapping a car without a DPF.

well what happened was, I was driving home from work yesterday morning and bare in mind it was rate second time I've driven this car, since I've had it the DPF light has been on, well all of a sudden it went into limp with the glow plug light flashing, so I took it to a local company who erased the DPF and remapped it the same time, but I was warned not to drive the car much until I've taken the filter out, hence being booked in today for 2:30 and a freezing cold morning having to spin about on my motorbike. British weather is great hey!

Wider wings yes I like but the rest not enough of a selling point which is why I have a s3 body with the rs3 grill on mine.
was following an rs3 the other day and honestly didn't know it was an rs till I looked closer and saw the minor differences

dont forget the wider carbon fibre front wings, rear spoiler and diffuser!! Lol.. Cheers buddy, it should be nice when finished, just need some buckets as I have s-line interior at the moment. But as far as front bumper goes they don't look that much apart like u said that's why I would never spend 40k on a genuine RS3

Car looks great, need some sideskirts to complete the beefyness lol. Did you use genuine wings? Lol the 40k is more geared towards the engine. I saw one for 28k, they are gettting cheaper, one day it shall be mine lol.

Agreed the skirts need doing as well.
28k ?! cheaper than a new 8v S3

I've got sideskirts here to go on, will get body shop to fit them same time as its painted, car goes really well now I've had the DPF filter removed today, its quite rapid to be honest, made me smile anyway :) still having problems with lights though, obviously DRL's need programming but should my dip beam be working anyway? Because that's all I have and they knock off every couple minutes or start flashing

Shades, where abouts are you based? I can code the lights for you if you local to london?
thanks for the offer buddy but I'm based down in Carmarthenshire so a little but far for me to travel. I appreciate your kindness though :)

Looks wicked mate, a rough guide of pricing so far?

cheers mate, I think by the time its painted I would have spent 4.5k, and I still need Rs3 bucket seats and steering wheel. S3 conversion would have been a third of the price so if I had my time again who knows? But this car is for keeps so I don't mind :)

I have nothing against the car, it looks quite smart.
But the RS3 badges........

I may do away with the RS3 badge or maybe just a thought of getting a nice Tdi badge to put below?? So it be like an RS3 version of the Tdi, or would that be way off the mark?

wow deep pockets haha
with regards to RS3 buckets, i've read up that someone had their RS3 broken into and they just stole the bucket seats. The insurance company declared the car a write off due to the cost of the bucket seats!! Maybe theyve dropped in price recently?

I have been looking and hoping to get a set for £1500 maybe £2000, or maybe some rough Rs4 and have them trimmed which I will most prob do due to lack of Rs3's about.

Dude, if you like the badges then you keep them. It's your car.

I think it (the car) looks great. Badges don't offend me as I don't have an RS3.

Personally, you have ploughed a lot of money / time & effort into the car, if you want to badge it up then go for it.

Robbiemac- I am sure you have your own opinion, but keep it to yourself if you have nothing good to say.

Congrats on having an RS3 pal... shame you cant use your money to buy yourself some tact and common courtesy.

This forum doesn't need your childish tunnel vision comments. At the end of the day its only body styling. Speed limits don't change if you get a car with more horsepower...

Careful with badges, I thought police could have a field day with wrongly badged cars?

And before the odd sado replies, I'm not a boy racer into kits and over excited at the fact the car is over 200bhp as I've had plenty of performance cars in the past inc an old time retro classic "Rs500" which I'm sure someone will also slate on here.

Awesome cars, I dont think anyone could slag off an RS500 unless they didnt know what it was?
Loving the A3/S3, keep up the good work!

Really? I don't think so, police computers (anpr) only go off when it finds expired tax, mot, insurance etc, so they won't know any information about the car unless they manually run it through the system.

Yeah in the classfield, it's a cat-d without buckets though.

Cars a credit to you mate. And you have an envious car history.... Keep up the good work pal.

im in barry every saturday so could code for you
but iv never coded the a3 lights
if ask gives me the numbers id be happy to do them.

hi ash, I have a guy here with me now, what is the procedure with coding? Any gateways need opening etc?? Desperately wanting info ASAP. If u want to ring me my number should be in your inbox. Cheers mate.

Copied from another thread

First go to Central Electronics-->Long Coding-->Function 07
Things you have to change
Byte 00 Bit 1 ON
Byte 03 Bit 4 OFF
Byte 17 Bit 1 OFF (I think it's off but I forget. Play around)
Byte 21 (Dropdown box) Choose the one that matches your setup or liking.
And the finalize your settings - not sure how that goes; should be something along the lines of transfer to long coding and save. It should be trivial (My vag com specialist helped me program as I gave him the coding).

I've had lights coded but dip seems to knock off after a few minutes until I turn them back on unless there on auto then they knock off after a few minutes then knock straight back on. Everything seems to be fine apart from that? It was mainly the drivers side playing up half way through coding. Will it make a difference of I don't have self levelling fitted? Is there different conversion kits available?

All i say is eff what everyone else thinks and do what makes you happy but if someone says they dont like then just say thanks for your opinion but i dont care, i think your car looks wicked mate

looks really nice mate job well done ! i personally would probably do it to an a3 2,0t quattro or S3 ... but as i said looks amazing

i had the same issue on my old S3 turned out to be the lights themselves so i changed them and everything worked flawlessly... however if i were you get Ash to have a look at it mate he is a pro

Cheers guys, just been driving with the DRL's on which is good in a way due to the later nights this time of year but I really do need to sort this issue out, when you say lights themselves do you mean the ballasts included or just the light units? Cheers

Ps. I only done conversion to this TDi as I wanted a cheap runabout for every day use, which also looks pretty good on the road to. I would have prob bought an Rs3 if I wanted to go down the petrol route, either way I'm happy :)) apart from the lights of course, does anyone else's rear lights stay on as like DRL's ??

i meant as in the Xenon bulb itself mate... im assuming you got everything brand new ? i.e. ballast and the headlight housing itself

the rears will stay on if the coding is set to Scandinavian DRL mode within VCDS... Set it to North American to get just the fronts on.

whats the current situation with the bulbs then?

Everything was bought off Internet, so I have questioned whether there all 100% the bulbs themselves aren't genuine items but didn't think this would be a problem? Is it best I change them?

thanks ash for your info on DRL's :)

Just to let you all know that I've managed to sort this out today. The wrong bulbs were fitted to my headlights, I think they were D1 instead of D3S. Everything works perfect now and about time 2! One of this jobs I've put off for so long, so chuffed to bits now

Thanks guys, I am very pleased with the outcome and may possibly do another in the future. I Really fancy Red or possibly yellow? But may go down the S3 Rep route as it's a much cheaper option.
