S3 v R32

Hmmmmm...I've been toying with the idea of getting a 2008/9 R32. They look like decent value. Especially 5dr DSG versions. Also considering an early 8P s3....

Thats steep for the Audi to be fair

Not too steep to be honest, we have looked at a few similar condition and they seem to go for around this. I have just found one for 8k with 5k less miles. This is a late 04 model which is quite rare and with sat-nav. A nice example/colour.

That S3 is way over priced, you could get a new shape S3 for a little more.
I would sell the R32 seperately then look out for another S3.

That is a nice S3 with a good spec. However regardless of mileage your gonna get a few problems with a 9 year old car. I wouldnt say thats worth anymore than 6.5k. Is it a straightswap or is there cash exchanging hands to ?

I've never seen an 04 plate before!

Same as!

Maybe why it is up for a high price - plus the rareish colour - I mean you can buy a lot of car for £7.5k nowadays!

I would have at least expected this one to be fully loaded....no sunroof? armrest? cruise control? heated seats?

very, very nice S3, great spec, and great colour inside and out, but it's never worth 7.5K.

R32's seem to command a premium still, although I'd take the s3 over the R32 any day of the week.

who's been using the heaters and light switches in the 04 plate? wolverine? mines got 93000 on the clock and doesn't have a mark on them! ooh and twistof, it does have an arm rest :haha:

Being an 04 plate it could be an import so might be worth checking as a load were imported from Germany around that time - lots more info on tyresmoke.net

It seems the crowd is with me on this one....

As he said, there made upto 2003 but registered later on the imports, there was a 2004 plate on autotrader few months back again same principle as it too was imported. That price is just way to high.

Lol @the 'it's going to be an import' quotes! Where do you think your S3 was made?! The only difference is probably a few spec ones, but 8L S3's came highly equipped(for the time it was made) out the box anyways.

I know there's at least 10 Avus Silver 8L S3's on 54 plate that were imported as standard cars with Black leather into the UK back in the day. The guy who imported them sold all 10 for £27k I think?

Nice S3, colour is something different. I certainly wouldn't be paying 7.5k for a stock 8L though...

I wouldn't be paying that amount either, but id sure be buying a stock car over a modified car any day of the week.

False economy really. You can bet any S3, whatever the age, will have tired suspension, if it's original, irrespective of mileage. My Eibach springs on the rear snapped from rust over time and only 25k odd miles? Engine parts perish, and condition is based on how the previous owner used/looked after it.

Do the research, and you will be rewarded with a good S3, if you know what you are looking at.

Thanks for all the replys!!
Yes it is a straight swap, i know you can get cheaper (not keen on the cream leather) but this is a very nice looking S3.
Anywho im not bothered im just curious what people thought, Driving down from the northeast on Sat to get it......Setting off at 3am!
Ill point my friend in the direction of this thread and see what he thinks.
Cheers

Not sure how it could be, but if it's any help I'm just down the road from Yeovil. If you need a hand with anything let me know.

I know what your saying jojo, it does all count on how the car has been looked after, but the few cars I have brought in the past modified I've always found something I'm not happy with. I prefer to buy a standard/ subtle modded car with good history.

isnt that Andy Sahotas S3 that had the 2.5 5cylinder 700bhp lump in it...?

I thought that it was advertised before with a 2.5 5cylinder as I recognised the registration s3 vue

Hello My friend is swapping his R32 low milage standard example for this Used Audi S3 Hatchback S3 Quattro 3dr [225] in Yeovil, Somerset | West Country Cars

Good idea or not? :)

Well...What a day!! set off at 4am drove 340 miles got to the garage all excited to see a lovely example of a S3 AND.......
It was a pile of ****e!! Overspray on both rear sills, rear bumper had been badly repaired, oversoary on rear window rubber, passenger door allignment issue, O/S headlight loose and the interior was scruffy!! So all in all a round trip of over 700 miles and £165 in fuel for bot all. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR IT IS A DOG AND PLEASE WARN OTHERS! I would value it at 4k

Overspray on rear window rubber :) the car is a pile of crap!

Ive always thought the R32 must understeer like a monster with that big lump overhanging the front axle is a big fail for me.

No way what a total waste of your day, what did you say to the guy trying to get over 7K for it, was he blind lol

It just shows that a low milage un-modified S3 is not the bees knees,I would look at cars of similar age to get a perspective of price.

Ideally he would like a low mileage 1/2 owner and is willing to pay good money for the right car. It's funny how photo's can make cars look a million dollars when infact they are just dogs

1 or 2 owner of a car which is at least 9 years old :uhm: I think he's after something not around,I love mine but it has problems here and there
