Locked my keys in the boot!!

So yesterday at 3:30pm I locked my keys in the boot, when I happened to be in Macclesfield about an hour and 20 mins from home (and the 2nd set of keys).

Its that ****** stupid autolocking boot. You know when you go solely in the boot then shut it it autolocks. I went in there for some stuff i'd left in, accidently left the keys inside and shut it!

I was in a nice hotel car park when it happened and bout 5 random people turned round to me screaming f**k and s**t for about 5 minutes.

Anyway I had to call out Audi Assist (RAC). I waited 2 hours and it wasn't an easy job either. He had to go under the wheel arch and try to open the bonnet. After struggling for about 20 mins he managed to do it. Then he had to wedge the door open and put a stick inside and press the down button on the window whilst I reconnected the battery. This takes the window down about 1 inch at a time.
Once it was fully down I went in through the window into the boot and got the keys.

Anyway job done, bar some light scratches above the window where he was putting in the metal stick. I wasn't happy about this, but they do make you sign a disclaimer. Should polish out I hope anyway.

Then on the way home, the car felt slightly different. I had my remap done by Pendle Performance and I felt as though I had lost the additional power. After driving for the rest of the hour journey back home it seemed to regain it.

Does disengaging the battery and reconnecting it a few times affect the remap at all or engage any safety features?

Anyway, moral, don't be a prat and lock your keys in the boot?

No, not at all. Going to try and get audi to disable it when I can be bothered.

Yup, I'm always very careful if I use that feature, I'll always leave my keys in my pocket when I press the button, just to be sure I don't accidentally leave them in the boot. At least you got it sorted though. When I picked up the car, the saleswoman made sure to warn me about it, and the fact that it was the only way I could lock my keys inside, so since then I've made a point never to leave my keys inside the car if I open the boot with the boot-unlock button.

I suppose the simplest answer is NEVER to use the boot only unlock button. My original A3 and several of the others only had a two button remote and I got used to using just the two buttons and although my more recent A3s have had the three buuton version I never use the middle button.

That's a different thing altogether - the middle button will still open the boot alone and relock when it's closed. If you use the main unlock, either to open the driver's door or the whole car, then it won't auto-relock if a door is opened which is fairly safe.

I'm with Dave on this one, there's nothing wrong with the boot open function/button - if you can't trust yourself not to leave the keys in there then just don't use it - open the whole car then lock it again.

need help... have gone and lock my key inside my car, i open the bonnet to put in some antifreez and when i came out i shout the door and open the bonnet,finish topping up the coolant and wanna get back inside but was locked and keys is inside looking at me, seriously i dont know what to do and i dont want to break the window... the bonnet is still open, as i keep it open should incase there is something i could do from the engine or fuse box...

Shouting at it isn't going to help.. Surely you must have a spare key.. If your covered by AA or RAC breakdown they maybe able to get into your car.

After I got a spare key ( and proved it worked ) I experimented and couldn't find a way to lock the keys in !!

How did you do it ?

Do you mean open the door, put keys in ignition, do not switch on and then close door again ? Seems like a basic design flaw if it's that simple !!

No, if you open a door it stays unlocked. If you unlock it and don't open a door inside 30 seconds it re-locks itself as an anti-theft feature. You don't need to touch the ignition.

That's exactly what I thought so how do you lock the keys inside the car ?

Lock car, open boot with centre button on the key, drop keys in boot, shut boot, all locked up!

Could you smash the rear light and fish the key out like somebody else did recently?

Well only possible way is to demoilish the light & break of the threaded part of the plastic nut, to push a coat hanger wire in to press the unlock button, but if you cant see the inside because of the shelf, you're kinda ********.

I saw a setting in VCDS to activate passive locking, which locks doors after a minute or two even if you've opened\closed a door! this being enabled is probably the reason for the second lock out

Hello and sorry for the abrupt first post!

I have locked my key & spare in the boot along with my house key, phone & purse. Car is a B7 2006 A4 cabrio & is in dead lock. Auto locksmith couldn't get in by pulling inside handle or unlock button so even if I smash the window...all the electrics are disabled.

The seats don't go down & the ski flap only opens from the boot.

Locksmith suggested Audi could give me a code to cut a key for the boot only but apparently that is for pre 2006 models only.

HELP... If anyone has any ideas could you please PM me?

Audi will probably be your best (and most secure) bet to get into the car and re-engage the electronics through the scanning port, but:
a: it's going to cost you, and
b: it's going to cost you.
