Dead Engine

Well my car decided give up the ghost and go low oil pressure at the top of my road followed by a nasty noise from her.

It's in the shop now after I remembered I had AA Warrantee so it should be all covered but just in case I've found a 57k BEX engine for £795 exchanged and delivered if it all goes pear shaped.

Always the way - my car always seems fine through the summer when its warm, as soon as its winter it forces me to work outside in the cold!

Im guessing it was down to a blocked oil strainer?

Had no pre warning of it she ran like a dream and sounded sweet but you may be right or the oil pump just gave in.

Fingers crossed its covered under your warranty - a friend of mine sold an AWT engine and gearbox (with all ancillaries, turbo) for £350 on ebay last week.. so the bargains are out there!

The dreaded red oil can, nearly killed my last car. Hope its a smooth resolve for you mate. The 57k bex sounds like a good back up plan to me, never had to buy an engine before but seems a fair price for what it is. Hopefully your warrantys good though!

sods law, my AWT engine threw it's oil pressure out on sunday morning.
got it home tonight but after the light comming on often i found stopping then keeping rpm below 2k worked as a limp home option.

think i'll have to try a cheap option forte flush tomorrow or run some flushing oil through it, really don't have the time to drop the sump with it not being a 5 min job

I was shocked at the crap inside to be honest, all the breather pipes were caked, you could see dried sludge on the cam covers when you opened the oil filler - my transverse mounted 1.8t was as clean as a whistle.

We were going to use engine flush a few years ago on it but decided not to as we thought it would dis-lodge more gunk and cause more damage.
During his ownership he used one of the best synthetic oils and changed every 6,000 miles which seemed to keep things at bay.
If you must use engine flush I would suggest keeping it in there overnight to allow it to properly try and break some of the sludge down.

Im not sure how useful it would be but I have a spare head with cams / lifters.etc from my transverse mounted AYP engine - if you need anything give me a shout.

i really want a B7 diesel so reluctant to spend on this lol

left it at home anyway and got a flush, i had good results on a zafira gsi that had sludge for oil but a flush didn't cure that, ended up filling it with flushing oil and that worked a treat.

we'll see anyway, i'll cross my fingers.
lucky honda started this morning, not used it for 3 months

well forte didn't work, a sump of flushing oil didn't either, or a 2nd sump of it so i'll have to bite the bullet and strip it.
just have to hope for debris in the pick up rather than it be clean and looking at a weak oil pump

She live and with the original engine.

First garage was a joke so managed to get it moved to my mates’ workshop (VW enterprise) and he found what was wrong after the first garage said it was wear & tear. The pump was playing up when hot then staving the crank and bearings but when cold the pump would work and hide the noise.

Had a stage 4 southbend clutch that I had sitting around dropped in and a new flywheel so I'm good for sometime to come.

Just need a custom map now
