Hello long time iv not been on this forum as iv not had a audi for around 7months as iv been partying in ibiza, but it was time to come back and buy a car,

I was looking about for a few weeks and the audi a4 2.0tdi 140bhp b7 got me,seemed a nice looking car and very good on fuel,
I took the car for a drive done a few of the checks you do and seemed all ok,just drove to manchester a 6 hour drive from me and all ok,the only thing I found out was the heaters was only blowing lukewarm air all fans not just the 1 side,The waterpump has been changed and the cambelt a few miles before this.

I called the subaru garage who had done the work and gave them the invoice number so they could check if they had deffo done the job and to check was this problem like this before they started it,I got a call back from the person who fitted the pump and belt and my reply was the car came in with cold air blowing and we changed to pump and belt and a flush and seemed to be blowing abit warmer, but this is all what was said,I contacted the owner who i got the car off and got the old blag blag nah it worked for me and was running fine.

So what I have is a problem that I need fixed as it is starting to get ****** cold.....

I have read a few things on here about touching the rubber pipes near the battery and the bottom pipe is hot but the top pipe isnt,

The temt gauge gets up to 90c and stays there at standstill or whiile going along as it should, the anti freeze was also just above min and after the 6hour drive abit under min,but now i have filled back up to max.

Also when car is started or turned off the pipes coming off the coolant feel empty like just air inside them should this be like this..

whats the best things to check before I take this in to audi and cost me a bomb on cash.

Any answers will be such a help thank you,any more information just ask I have tried to mention everything to help me and you guys to help me.

If their isnt an airlock in the sytem, then the heater matrix maybe blocked up. I've had this on my old B6.
If you undo the pipes that go into the matrix ( by battery) and attached sum hose to either end and use one end to go into a waste bucket and attach a hosepipe to the other end.
flush through the matrix with the hose on and you should see lots of dirt coming out, once the water starts coming out clean, then switch the hoses around and flush it going the opposite way with water until it runs clean.
Connect the hoses back up and top up coolant if necessary, run the car with coolant cap off until all the air is worked out of the system and take it for a drive you should have your heat back.

Hopefully thats all it is, it worked on mine, I had a similar problem, I had the cambelt and waterpump etc done thinking it was that, but that didnt cure it. It was due for a change anyway luckily.

Hiya Emmo,
I have took it to a garage today and let them have alook at this and the had alook around and they took the top pipe off the coolent and no water was running through and he said it could be a faulty waterpump.

A few hours later my friend who is a vaghead dont the same later on and there was water running through and when rev up it comeout alot quicker, now the question is it worked then stopped and working again is this faulty,

Emmo was your coolant tank dirty because mine looks brand new coolant in there looks very clean and pink.

Thanks for your time to read through this any other answers or questions would be great :)

i had this the same
changed w pump flush etc still the same
eas a rite **** to get the matrix pipes off but did
ran water through till clean a lil better but not 100%
ended up changeing matrix.
if you had a faulty pump you would know

I could only get one of the pipes off, they are a pig and was worried I'd split them. Flushed them and was a lot better but will only tell when the proper cold weather arrives.

Bez, was it easy to change the matrix and how much was it?

Is there a link on how to flush matrix pics and that? what pipes are you going to need etc..

My coolant tank wasnt very dirty, but when I flushed the matrix lots of brown dirty stuff and bits did come out.

AudiWorld Tech Articles

not sure if were supposed to link to other sites?

but theres a diy with pics on here, almost the same on the b6.

Hope this helps.

You can get the hose from b&Q.

yes very easy for me
i paid someone to do it.
and it was not easy
i rember 1 member on here saying he had a quick way to do it without takeing all the dash out
he never after loads of requests posted the how to he said he would do.

Hiya dont no if this is anything to do with it 2 days ago i filled the coolent up to max and now it is on min line again, maybe this is due to keep running the car with the cap off trying to let air out of the cap, also the to pipes near the battery both seem warm but not hot, also all the pipes off the coolent seem hot but feel air inside them not coolent, dunno if this helps to point anyother problems,iv looked for leaks and nothing to see,but on monday im going to flush the matrix and the coolent system, whats the best way to clean the matrix with just water or any cleaner, also what the best to flush the coolent system, been told you can add it to the coolent tank and pore a cleaner in and let it circulate round the system even take the car for a quick drive then empty it out,any help with this will be great...
