AH Fab / Ebay / Forge S3/A3 FMIC installs (image heavy)

just had some pipework and silicon hoses priced (viper-performance) so i can run a 600x300x76mm intercooler from toyosports, (copied from s3-kev) all the pipework added up to £250?!
does that sound expensive?
thats with the clips too.
with the intercooler im looking at £350..

What pipes did you order?... the basics should come to just over 100 ish quid IIRC...

<tuffty/>

-600x300x76mm intercooler
-2x 90 degree polished pipes 76mm
-2x 90 degree silicone hose 76mm (easier then a hard pipe as they need choping a bit)
-2x 90 degree silicone reducer hose with 76mm to 63mm
-2x alloy joiner 63mm
-2x alloy joiner 76mm
-2x 76mm silicone hose 120mm length
-10x jubilee clips 70-90mm the mikalor style clips dont fit where the cooler is behind the bumper so no point getting them, plus in my opinion there no better as long as you get decent jubilees and make sure there tight
-re-use the old intercooler jubilee clips for the 63mm joins

i ordered all my pipe work from http://www.viper-performance.co.uk/index.php they are good quality and i no they work on this set up as i and gazzaone have them (i fitted his cooler last weekend)

s3_kev's FMIC fitting....

copied the pipework from this intercooler..

Possibly then... I am sure others have fitted this FMIC and used less pipes... check out Welly, Westy and Sportstractor's list maybe...

@ Westy - Which intercooler are those pipes for? The AH one, toyosport or a different one? Looking at ordering the pipes for a toyosport one now but not sure where is cheapest! Cheers

cheers guys, and westy is that all for the toyosports intercooler as jpd89 has said?

cheers

Yes guys it's for the toyosport.

Shouldnt cost that much chap. Do it the way Westy and I did it, cost me around £200 inc the cooler. And I retained the fog lamps

My list is fairly short.

2 x 76mm - 63mm reducers
2 x 90 degree ali bends 63mm
2 x 90 degree silicone bends 63mm
1 x ali joiner 63mm
what angle are your 76mm-63mm reducers? 90degree?

That's correct mate but you might want a few more clips.

You need 7 to fit 63mm hoses and 2 big ones to fit round the 76mm end tanks.

And don't buy t-bolt clamps as they are rubbish :)

Get JCS Hi-Grips...

Just wondering ive got a forge cooler to fit soon i was thinking about cutting the middle of the bumper out where the redg plate fits, not for perfomance purley looks ive taken some isperation from that mental blue thing on youtube has anyone done somthing a little more subtle?

Thanks guys, will order those today! £230 for a fmic...can't complain really!

Have a look at pats build thread colly, hes got a huge flic and had the front bumper cut up similar to he 0-400 s3.

I im the process of upgrading my fmic starting with buying the pipes first.

would a 76mm wellycooler be way too much for a k03s? I will eventually go hybrid but not for now?

any thoughts?

I am buying a 2nd hand AH Fab Vers 1 FMIC soon.
I have read through here in preparation and to help me make my choice.

But this post is mainly about the v2.
Can any one tell me the difference between the two? Mainly to confirm the v1 is upto the job. I am running a standard K04 with revo stage 1 but am getting this and a few other bits ready for a planned upgrade to stage 2 map.
No plans yet for turbo upgrade but would like to know I'd have the option if need arises.

The FMIC is coming with all the hoses and modified bumper bar. But is there anything else I need to check it comes with?

As always folks. Thank you for the advice.

Its all in the first post dude....

Sportstractor - did you get the fog surrounds/grill to fit back on?

No, only the lamps, I was going to try modifying the grill's to fit but never got round to it. Car has been sold now so I won't be doing it.

Even just the lamps in place it looks better, helps fill the rather large voids either side of the pipes

Tuffty.
It's your post that convinced me to get the ah fab cooler. But later through the posts you say that you have amended the first post for the v2 and the posts all seem to be referring to v2.

Just gone back and read it again (this post is so long it seems like an eternity ago I first read it)

Is the info at the top of the 1st post still valid for v1?

Thanks.

My personal views....

If you get your hands on a V1 cheap and plan to use it on a std K04 to stage 2 levels then it will be fine... anything more (hybrid or BT) then no, its not gonna cut it... if buying new then just get a V2 from the get go as its only a little more cost wise and no more tricky to fit..

<tuffty/>

Thanks again Tuffty. That was they way I looked at it.
Bit of info overload on this topic and never done one before. So thought it best to clarify with the experts.

I'm not too well at the minute and struggling to get all the info to sink in lol.

Cheers mate.

Quick question guys, about to fit my Forge FMIC, reading through the fitting guide, it mentions "the standard steel tude that links the 2 intercoolers will remain in place but will no longer be used once the new uprated intercooler is fitted." What other purpose is the pipe serving? Could I remove it or does it provide some sort of extra support under the car? I only ask as I'm aboutto fit my fmic, and my intercooler "linking pipe" is damaged and if I'm going to need it, will need replacing.

Appreciate any help!

I am sure the nay sayers will be along in a bit but... the A3 doesn't have one, LCR's have an aluminium one that is clipped rather than bolted to stuff so its your choice... I have removed mine to no ill affect...

You won't loose anything removing it IMO... the part weighs next to nothing and its design doesn't really 'support' anything..

This is it off the car...

I'm a mong, thought that was an oil line haha. I've cable tied it for now until I fit the cooler. I'm going to do away with the link pipe, rather not buy another if it's not essential. Nice one lads!!!

Another odd request, I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. I've bought a used forge FMIC. I'm not sure if i've recived all the bits of the kit that forge supply. Tried contacting Forge but they would not tell me the contents of the kit...

I'm only interested in the piping and clamps, as I just want to cross reference what I have.

Cheers Tuffty,

Should get one ordered at the end of this month and be down in September sometime to get it fitted at Bill's with possibly you if it's on a Saturday :)
