Hi, so a while back had a few problems with s3...... Which you all helped with and now trying eliminate other possible issues.

Had the sump off and cleaned it , was a right state and some muppet had used plumbers putty as sealant was in the pickup and bits in sump pan and yellow Dipstick crud in there! Now replaced with vag sealant , 20 new screws and new oil and filter car is running a lot better.

Been checking all the pipes and one has caused concern to me. It's collapsed, really soft...
It's a 3/4 inch size pipe next to TIP on top right corner of bam engine with like a mushroom shaped head stamped with Audi rings on it.... I wish I knew what it was, but seems knackered.

Also had new pzeros rosso all round and guy at tyre place said he deleted pcv on his lcr bam and replaced with oil catch can and told me it's well worth doing ..... Anyone recommend this and what benefits?

And want to clean my throttle body is this easy? Bought the cleaner from auto factors already.... Just looking for a how to on bam engine.

Many thanks, Sean

Hello Mate,

the same pipe on my BAM S3 had collapsed too so i just replaced it with some new stronger pipe so that i wont collapse. If i remember correctly the pipe your talking about connects the TIP to the hockey puck so just remove it from the TIP and then once its off you can tell what sort of pipe you need (internal diameter and legth etc).

As for PCV delete have a look at this eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace as i just ordered a 1m length of pipe off ebay for £2 and it looks pretty straight forward on BAM cars as its just a case of removing lots of crap and then running this new pipe fro the top of the DV to 1 other location. you then just leave the N249 left plugged in to stop any error codes.

lastly in regards to throttle body clean. Not done this myself but you should be able to find a guide using google as i think the TB are very similar on all engine codes. All i have done to my TB is a re-allignment using VCDS.

hope that helps a bit

Rob

Hi Rob, where did you get the hose to replace the soft as sh*ite collapsed one that goes from the hockey puck to the TIP?

I desperately need to get one

I went to the best place for free stuff my Dads garage lol. He has a box full of old random pipes etc (he is a bit of a hoarder) so once i had removed the old pipe i just found a section similar to the original and cut it to length. if i remember rightly the bit that fits into the TIP has a plastic conncetor to mate the TIP to the pipe and of course the hockey puck fits into the other end.

I have replaced another of the pipes that run to the TIP with some old fuel line (clean of course) as the pipe had gone brittle due to heat and kept snapping and cracking when the clips were tightened up.

Oh and to the OP when you took off your sump etc did you clean up / replace the oil pick up pipe?

Checked the oil pick up and was ok, think some muppet had took sump off prior to do that job and sealed it with ****e cheap *** sealant. But it is a job well worth doing, and it's another oil and filter change which is good!

Parts from tps cost me £47 quid and a friend gave me new oil level sensor for £15. Good I think. ( oil, oil filter, 20 screws, sealant, sump bolt and washer).

I'm going to try and source this pipe from somewhere.

Cheers, Sean

Also vrbob I'm thinking of upgrading my dog bone mount and noticed you did yours, was it worth while job any noticeable difference mate?????

Yeah i did my pick up pipe when i bought my S3 last year defo worth doing for the price of the bits etc.

there is a thread in the stickies about the dog bone mount but i think again for less than £20 its a no brainer mod as its not even that tough to do as long as the bolts undo ok from the car.

Personally i got the red version(diesel) as its a bit softer and has less vibration at idle. Defo helps crispen up the gear change and the engine now moves alot less under load.

my commision is 50% of the saving lol

Cheers Rob.. hey you reckon you'll do the oil catch tank jobby? I think i may go that way but want a partner in crime! :sos:

I'd love you to be my Robin, I mean batman. But Kent Is about £70 in fuel from me lol!

Yeh deffo going to go that route me thinks..

Cheers

I have read the catch can stuff a few times and it still looks a little tricky to me so as you can delete the N249 pretty easily anyway i am gonna just try that first. But of course if you do it first am more than happy to see your results and copy them.

Just toying with the idea of upgrading to a B5 V2 tip and JR filter at the mo to replace my current ebay silicone TIP and pipercross panel filter i know its got proven BHP gains but it is over £250 which is not pocket change. decisions secisions lol

I say do it. B5 v2 and an 008 was the first thing I bought. Get the JR cone filter elsewhere though, I think I paid £35 delivered! I'll dig out the receipt in a bit.

Then refit the std airbox around it so it all looks oem.

I'm also thinking of this exact setup oem look is the one for me. Badger 5 tip and standard air box with green cotton panel, 007 but uprating spring to yellow ......rated any good???? But like above £250 not exactly cheap.

Mate that's a great idea as will save me £60 odd quid as can get the tip on its own from badger 5 and buy the filter seperatly. If you can either let me know where you got urs from or just what size I need to look for that would be ace and I can get that rolling.

I have the b5 tip and filter / heat shield kit from badger and can totally recommend it. It's an excellent quality piece of kit.

JR Conical Type Air Filter - PartBox Performance and Tuning Parts

Going to buy a Jetex? Then look here! - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum

Right so just to confirm...... The link above is a good quality filter that fits inside the oem air box and improves performance?

Would the jr cone you recommend be better than what I suggested the badger 5 tip and oem air box with green piper cross panel filter???

Cheers

Good quality and what everyone uses YES.... straight forward fit in the airbox NO. You need to do some cutting to the actual airbox.

Tuffty has a guide in the stickies, thats what I followed

heres my effort

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-forum-8l-chassis/156613-well-i-picked-up-today.html

Works a treat and looks oem.

if you cant be ***** then just get the panel filter job done

Cone gives more sound though if thats your thing.

Are they 6 pots ap racing on m3? I'm 22 and got 6 points my insurance LAUGHED down the phone when I told them I'm buying an m3! This made me sad got to wait 2 years til I can have one now! ( Sean crying)

I think my friend is returning his m3 to standard to sell it , some nice bits for sale soon including full supersprint exhaust , makes the best noise iv ever heard!

But back to the s3 I like the look of all oem appearance with cone, you drilled the air box and cut out a bit to make it fit then?? Seems easy enough.

Cheers

Still cheaper than i found it anywhere else so thank mate.

I also spotted that Bill is selling BMC open cone filters to go with the TIP £35lus VAT n P+P but the filter looks like its a bit smaller than the JR filter so might be easier to fit inside the airbox. So even though its red and does not match my car this is ok as it will be hidden.

Any thoughts?

I believe there are no differences in gains. I would go with the blue JR all day as (and i'm not being a poncey gay lord) but it would go well with your colour S3 and the shape is better IMO.

But it will be hidden in the airbox. Which will need cutting regardless of the JR or BMC choice

Job done and have gone for the black Jetex induction kit with the angled neck so will see how i get on with fitting it. Might hold off on the V2 tip till next pay day now as have spent a few quid now this month.
