The initial amazement of having a car with double the power of my old a2 is starting to wear off and i would like a little more overtaking power even though that sounds pretty greedy when you already have 200hp but greed is good :) The only thing i am thinking is because i have fwd i currently struggle to make a quick start as it is, even the slightest prod of the throttle lights up the front tyres so wouldn't a remap make this even worse?? I would also like a remap for mpg purposes as i have heard that it can give me 3 or so mpg more which would be great as i do a lot of motorway runs. It would probably be a revo unless anyone knows a better way to go. I would value any opinions you may have :)

Cheers
Chris

Mines mapped and it transformed it. The standard car is quite flat to be honest but mapping it boosts the torque and the responsiveness of the car. Mines Quattro so traction isn't a problem. My mpg went up around 3mpg...

Like the Mpg increase, 3 mpg would be very good to have with the mileage i do! Just wish i bought a quattro!! Wonder if anyone with fwd's have remapped. Who did your remap?

Chris

Ah nice, btw did you change your wheels to the rs4 style ones in your signature as i have just got a set of these in titanium and i think they look great :)

Yeah I did, mine had the RS6 five spokes originally which you can just make out in my avatar pic. They just made the car look a bit newer along with the facelift rear lights..

might be worth dropping brodster a pm about mapping. He knows his stuff and will sort you a map if you choose to go down that route.

Hi, i got mine mapped by N8 on here great guy and great map, had 200 bhp to start with and now have 253bhp, so a massive increase, not too sure on mpg tbh, but its totally changed the car for the better, its a must from me pal!

I will be doing my fwd very soon..... I will be going to R-Tech in Leicester. They do Revo and have had friends go with them and yet to hear a bad word against them. I wouldnt think twice about a re-map... you should definitely be greedy and go for it :)

Think I've told you about my opinions on this before, but....

Mine's also a FWD 2.0TFSI DSG and is remapped by superchips/bluefin. Basically, a 2.0T without a remap is a waste. As said above, it totally transforms the car. A few times I've switched back to stock and it feels so underpowered and sluggish, can't believe I used to drive around like that.

As for pulling away.... if you plant your foot then yes the wheels will spin very badly and you'll get loads of wheel hop. And if its in the wet... forget about it! But you soon learn. Now I can pull away fast without lighting up the wheels, I've just got to concentrate on how much gas I give it.
When rolling you've got more room for error. If you plant when rolling at low speeds then you will still probably get the odd quick wheel spin between gear changes (2nd/3rd) and also when the turbo comes in in 1st and 2nd. But in the dry its mostly ok.
My MPG is pretty much the same since the remap.... maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit better but nothing significant.

My advice... take what you read here with a pinch of salt because most people are going to swear that their remap is the best in the world even though they've never driven a FWD 2.0T DSG (and that's the important part - a FWD 2.0T DSG) mapped by another company. So search the internet for reviews from people who have actually owned cars with each remap and try not to listen to people who comment on remaps that they've never driven for a length of time.
There are plenty of REVO 2.0T reviewers out there, and the number of Shark'd 2.0Ts is slowly building. You'll find it more difficult to find lots of reviews for bluefin'd A3 2.0Ts, but search for bluefin'd Golf GTI reviews (its the same engine) and you'll find loads.

I found a very good video somewhere on the net where it had a timed drag race between a 2.0T REVO and a 2.0T Bluefin, both FWD and DSG. The bluefin was a bit quicker up to about 70ish, but the REVO pulled back after that giving them an almost equal run out.
Obviously that was just one run though.

I think i need a remap, an extra 50hp would be so good for overtaking on country roads and i would just have to get used to pulling away gently then planting my right foot, i am thinking shark atm as i have read several good reviews from golf gti owners

Agree with ads on this one , whatever map u decide on its gonna make a world ov difference, and u'll love it, im just starting to get to grips with the best way ov setting etc without the spin , its so much fun.

again quattro here so cant comment on the wheel slip but can imagine it will deffo spin. and deffo worth the £££`s i went shark as it was local and as stated above it was a total dif animal it certainly put a smile on my face be careful on the clutch though had mine burning a few times have to be careful in first

Increase in MPG on a petrol car is marginal, and it needs to be on super so don't go for it on that basis. Power wise, yes it is defo worth it. I've got a lot of experience with FWD cars and it's all about the throttle mapping. We can make it equally as drievable as without the remap, that's the kind of thing we specialise in.

Hey Chris. I used to have a Bluefin'd MkV Gti and it made the car much more fun to drive. I had to go easy when pulling away in first in the damp but other than that it was fine with the FWD. Just make sure you have decent tyres fitted to the front to make the most of the extra poke! I was really pleased to find that there was a good increase in mpg too. Win win!! Although the Gti has gone, I still have my Bluefin device for when I decide to map my S3!

Go for it!

I dont think any Golfs, Audi's etc like having their clutch dropped in first and redlined.. My brother had a Mark 4 Golf GTI and he went through a clutch because of too many races off the lights.. I try to avoid hard first gear pull aways for fear of ruining my clutch and mine is stock..

Mine is DSG so it does its own thing, in a way a manual would be better because i would know when the clutch is out and i could hit the accelerator. The problem with the DSG is, i tried initially being gentle and then flooring it but it changes straight to 2nd if you are gentle so when you floor it, it has to change back to 1st and it is all a bit of a hassle really!! My tyres are goodyear eagle f1's so i don't know if these are good or bad but i have new wheels on the way which i think i will fit pzeros to

Is that in Sport mode??

No just in drive, could have put it is s but just wanted to try in d and see how it behaved but if i do it again i will use s because i think that would hold the gear

Chris

Chris, if you wanted to come out for a spin in mine and you are in the Kent area you are more than welcome. A sort of try before you buy so to speak. It's not DSG as its an octavia vrs but you will get the idea. A whiteline anti lift kit and torque mount insert will help with wheel hop / spin.

Rob

How much would it cost me to buy and fit the whitline kit and torque mount? Is that the sort of thing you can do?

Chris

I had REVO on MK5 GTi 20T.
Makes a huge difference and in FWD flavour is perfectly useable once you learn how to modulate the throttle and control when the power comes in.
Do it, the KO3 and KO4 20T is crying out for a remap.

Even more so with a DSG car as you dont have to worry about the chocolate clutch problems that manual cars have.

Good Luck
Paul

I bought a Bluefin map for my old 2.0T quattro and it made a significant difference. Most of all, it added to the lovely creamy smooth character of the 2.0T lump. I removed the map a few weeks before I sold that car and reverting to standard felt like a big step back in low-down torque and top-end power.

I kept the Bluefin handheld unit and obtained a new map directly from Superchips when I got my S3. Bluefin maps are less aggressive than some (e.g. Revo), but the bits that make up for this are the low cost of new maps - £166 for my new S3 one - and they also appear to be less associated with trouble in recent years than some of the other big names. Forum consensus suggests Shark are the winner, but Bluefin is fine if you value a more cautious approach with the added benefit of a handheld unit.
