I am happy to see the Avant still alive! Probably the ultimate Evo !
I have a few more parts to fit to it, b7 rs4 front brakes, b5 rs4 rear caliper + discs, Eibach 32mm front antiroll bar and s4 solid track rod ends. Handling wise is nearly there but i feel that i should take the engine and swapp it to a b5 or b6 chassis as the c5 a6 quattro is too heavy for performance thrills. Been offered a nice rs4 shell without running gear and interior but it's too expensive for what i will use it for + a rs4 shell with a diesel engine would be a sacrilege in my oppinion !
I am still tempted to sell the avant and call it a day + start with a new platform all over again ! Had a b6 tdi 180 Bhp quattro a few weeks ago and i also have a b6 FWD Tdi 163 bhp fitted with all bells and wistles, i had an ideea to swap the quattro running gear into the FWD and have a late EURO4 motor with quattro and low insurance and tax. Not many would realise the diference and i tend to keep my cars for a few years anyway... Sadly a friend came allong and offered me good money for the quattro so the ideea has gone and sold the quattro !
Still happy with the b6 FWD though and the only issue is my missus, all the cars i like and work on she cannot really drive them as they are too hardcore ! Don't wanna keep too many cars as it's dead money + tax and running costs are high these days + i buy and sell cars so i have runabouts every day !
I really wanna go along with the b5 1.9 Tdi quattro project, i have the shell with no lump (used to be a highly strung v6 tdi in there) and the built AHH engine but no time to put toghether. That would be fun to drive as the chassis is fully sorted + the engine is running an estimate 220 Bhp whilst still returning 50 Mpg !
Couple that with hard H&R antiroll bars, 4 pot caliper & 330 mm brakes, rs4 rear diff and brakes, rs4 shocks and eibach springs all round + nice Bose/leather/double DIN and full s4 bodykit and it's quite nice to look at it as well...that would be my ideal runabout as i would get the a6 for long motorway trips.
