Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

yeah man, horn works, self canceling indicators and everything!!!

looking good mate,is this your daily car? dunno if I could live with buckets in my daily...

Nice steering wheel, bet it makes your car go round corners better aye, shame about the driver though...

And why have you got S3 wheels on? They are heavy and slow your car down!

x2
they weigh loads, get some lighter wheels I'd you tracking that slag lol

Until recently I have had Prawns LCR wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa's sat in the garage for track use, the S3 wheels are fine for daily driving ::)

Pretty small update, and kinda pointless.

Gave the car a PROPER clean today, and a wipe down with Demon Shine and a seal with Colinite. For anybody who hasn't used Demon Shine IT IS AMAZING. I used to be a detailing freak, spending 100's on products and spending days on paint corrections. Now I just carry a bottle of Demon Shine and a couple of cloths.

Have secured an upgraded gear linkage and tower, the same as Prawns track car. So that should kick my 0 to 60 times down, not having to fish for second gear. (If anybody has driven an AGU car hard you'll know what I mean!)

Have also got Prawns standard AGU manifold which I will be porting myself, I'm going home to put the car on the ramps at the end of the month and will be doing the front hub, welding up the exhaust and replacing the manifold and all turbo gaskets.

Would the gear linkage be the same for my Golf?

Thanks Pat, she's not bad for a fat old bird! Get some more pics of yours up on facebook, I want to see more!

Depends to be honest mate, I assume so. Pre facelift A3's have THE WORST gear linkage in the world lol! I can't wait to get this on, it will make my box feel the same as your S3, I may try to tighten it up further with a better lever and box cam.

Added more on FB lol

My linkage on the Golf is like stirring soup lol I've really got to so it out!
Are you going to the SS meet at B&Q this Saturday?
Would be good to meet & to have a look at your motor.

What's the SS meet? Will it mean I have to dress up again and wear my silly hat?

I'll be working on Saturday, HOWEVER if you fancy meeting up for a pint on the Sunday I can show you the fun bus and arrange something for then? But be pre-warned, my manifold is split in three pieces so there will be no S3 slaying. Logged it this afternoon and it's 219BHP on airflow at 20PSI. Can't wait to get the manifold back on and get it up to man boost.

Not sure about the Golfs linkage, you'll get a feel of mine at the weekend with a bit of luck so you can let me know if it's the same? Mine is just terrible, really sloppy. It's easy to find gears but they are just set so far apart.

Pmsl your not into that sort of stuff are you??

Anyway I've sent you a link thing in FB, could sort something out

Kind of small update, I'm a bit skint at the moment so I am selling the DV26 and have replaced the 007p.

For the thousand or so miles I had it on the DV26 was very good though, it suited my map well and didn't cause any idling issues or EMl's.

it's 30 quid posted with a 25mm blanking plug if anybody wants it.

...and of course you had added this to the classifieds so this doesn't end up turning into a for sale thread? ;p

Haha, get yourself on Facebook it's sold and paid for already!

I know you aren't a fan of them and I fully understand and agree with the points you nade about atmospheric DV's on 1.8t's but there was a much stronger pull after a gear change with the DV26 than there is with the 007p.

Nick at R Tech has told me something about my car which could explain a few things and will be of interest to you, my car is so early it has an ME3. ECU with a PLCC44 EPROM chipset and can't be OBD mapped, when it first went to Nick it had a custard code ST2 chip in it and was in such a state he sent Liam home with a big long list of things to fix before he would touch it.

Nick and I have a plan to upgrade my ECU and then I will try and go for the 245+ ST2 he has been pushing out.

I discovered this afternoon my car is running an N75J valve too, so I am going to have a swap around with my GF's car and see what's happening.

It's a real shame because we never did get any hard evidence as to whether this car was actually faster then an S3 :whistle2:

Trust me, it is.

I just don't see the point in it, I want a beemer or another 205 GTI. A3 was a great laugh but I never keep a car longer than 6 months, and this one was over due a change.

Like I said no HARD evidence ;) Shame the Brands Hatch track day fell through.

Good luck with whatever you get next J man.

Yeah man, I had fun with it though.

Sold it for £1200, which is a bit of a kick in the balls buy who cares.

Whatever I get it will be fun for a couple of months until I sell up again. Haha

Such a waste.

Oh well! your loss.

Someone just got a lot of car for not a lot of money.

You're a waste.

It isn't my loss at all though Bob, I didn't want the car so I sold it. It's only a loss in your mind because in your opinion there are only 8L A3's, Mini's and Polo's.

Broaden your horizons Bob, go buy something else. :p

Whatever floats your boat but whats the point in car hopping so much and constantly throwing money down the toilet? Ok you might say you get bored and stuff like that but you might aswell keep your company car and just set fire to a few thousand pounds every few months. You fought so hard to prove to people wrong about your car and others like it, never actually proving anything then sack it off a reasonable loss? and get ripped by the very people you were arguing with about how it was better than they thought lol. All that effort and *****ing on here for nothing :p

Might be worth thinking about that Prawn..with Jardo as your salesman you might see £1500 back for your track car

I proved a lot of things actually, several times over. But people like yourself didn't want to listen. You would never see a person who has actually seen and been in my car knocking it, just the keyboard warriors.

The first thoughts on selling the car came a couple of months back from peoples opinions on here, idiotic peoples snobbery and tunnel vision to the S3 and Haldex. Regardless of what I did to that car there would always be somebody knocking on it for being FWD, I proved it was quicker both on the road and track with no questions asked. And still got **** for it, so excuse me for leaving the fold and wanting to forget about it. I have made some good friends on here and through these cars. But the cons outweigh the pro's in this instance and I just fancy another car.

I like changing cars, I am on my 43rd now in 4 years. Some people drink, some people smoke, I buy and sell cars.

:)

no. You're wrong.

There are plenty of other cars out there, and I like, enjoy, and respect many of them.

My beef, is that you're wasting something of great value which you managed to blag for sodd all, and I don't see how you're ever going to be able to buy something that can even half way compare with the pitiful amount you let it go for.

You picked the car up fairly cheap, with THOUSANDS of quids worth of work done on it. You didn't pay for any of that work, so effectively gained an advantage there by letting someone else do the work, you managed to cash on on that one big time.

Now you're going to sell it, for standard money, and buy another standard car.

I couldn't care less what you buy, so long as you're happy mate, that's the main thing, but you have to see my point?

You gained an advantage by cashing in on someone elses misfortune, now you're passing that onto someone else, and going back to something undoubtedly ****. Just seems a shame, and that makes me sad for you, that's all.

Modifying any car that you have any intention of selling ever is a mugs game.

I don't sell my cars on the whole, the A3, the mini, both have big money ploughed into them, but they will NEVER be sold, so the cost to me is fairly unimportant in that sense. it's all about the enjoyment.

I never doubted it? I have a FWD A4 and always get told to get a quattro and stop wasting money on a FWD lol.

Im not too fussed but what did you actually prove that people can see or be witness to? Who saw it on the road? People arent being keyboard warriors because they wanted proof of your claims which no one ever saw so in their eyes you were the keyboard warrior lol.

And basically you`re saying a little forum banter made you sell the car and run away? LOL.Thats pretty sad. Internetz people made me sad so i`ll go to the trouble of selling the car that i loved so much and go elsewhere...

LOL!

I'm afraid the bim bimmer forum boy will be even harsher. And parts for beamers are even more expensive, so Jardo is going backwards as far as I'm concerned. 205s are getting on a bit too.

Byyyye Jardo

Seeing as I've got a new (but weirdly old) car, and nobody can ***** about the efficiency of K03s's anymore due to Mylo's destruction of various S3's at the weekend I may as well bump this back up.

After the A3 I bought an IMMACULATE one owner from new full main dealer history Clio 172, fitted a RARB to it and remapped it. Then spent a lot of time and money tidying it up. It was a properly properly brilliant car. I miss it very much. But I got fed up with the ****y attitude of certain forum members, and the fact that Clio RS owners all seem to be jobless chavs.

I was toying with the idea of selling Oliver the Clio.

In hindsight I should never have sold it...I loved it and it was great.

Then a few days after that an IMMAULATE E36 landed in my lap at work for peanuts.

539661_10151251530970130_58369111_n.jpg

Within 48 hours of collecting it I had decked it on coilovers and fitted a refurbished set of BBS RC's.

I loved it...

I sold the car I was so desperate to own and loved to much to facilitate Lou getting the 500. I do miss the BM now, it was such a great car and I put a lot of work into it in the short time I had it to make it special.

But now I have a new project :)

My girlfriend has had this for the last four years. It used to look like this -

10864_231272000129_7533409_n.jpg

10864_231271970129_3752249_n.jpg

Then I fitted a set of coilovers to it.

21860_306376235129_3557761_n.jpg

Then I fitted a TIP, 007p and downpipe and had it mapped to stage 1 at R Tech. This was back in 2009!

Prawn did an N249 bypass and PCV delete, I did a polybush dogbone and fitted a new Jetex.

222843_10150270668050130_1166773_n.jpg

223235_10150270673015130_7451342_n.jpg

Whilst we were working Bob perfected his meerkat impressions.

223264_10150270668500130_6431817_n.jpg

Then I fitted an Eibach RARB to it.

Lou purchased a set of pimp wheels. I got a set of spacers and all that good looking jazz for it.
559661_10151462967270130_1500496778_n.jpg

And that's how it sat as her 225bhp daily driver for the best part of two years. Being serviced to death by me and being looked after regardless of cost because it was such a good car.

Lou decided she might like a new car because within the next 3 years the A3 will need a new VR6 clutch and the cambelt doing at the end of it, so we got her a Fiat 500.

304437_10151473054040130_1809006523_n.jpg

I collected lots of bits -

14370_10151459406685130_1868365443_n.jpg

And have slowly but surely over the last two weeks made it epic.

It's been serviced again (6k interval), new plugs and all that tosh. Had a load of split hoses replaced with shiny blue ones, it's had all sorts in the last two weeks.

I gave it an EPIC clean with Pierre (Frenchman) who is potentially the only person I've ever met as dedicated to the bucket and wash mitt as I am.

I swapped my number plate onto it last week.

I fitted an intercooler the other day and mashed the front bumper so a new one was sourced thanks to ScottB5 who is a LEGEND.

I resprayed it in the shed like a true piston head.

15094_10151488984665130_1666397977_n.jpg

Now luckily it's a pre facelift bumper...Because I HATE facelifts; for years I've hated this car due to it's glitzyness and shocking interior. I will slowly but surely convert it to being like a pre facelift and less hateful.

I also mashed the MAP sensor when fitting the FMIC, so a new one was sourced. But upon inspection the old one just needed a clean and the wires reconnecting in the plug.

Straightened up my pipes.

32304_10151490017540130_623467685_n.jpg

Fixed my MAP sensor in place properly, no pics of that.

Sanded down and trimmed the inside of the new bumper down...It's difficult to comprehend just quite how much I've taken off if you've never seen the inside of an 8L bumper...But that's a f**k load.

This is the mess it made -

Which left me with this -

Fitted it, and it looks gangster as f**k.

63355_10151490034885130_1161492739_n.jpg

Went and did some logging, and it's peak flow was 186g/s which is 232.5BHP which is healthy stage 2 figures...But my car is only stage 1 Car is much quicker now mid range, rather than a peak and then tailing off it seems to hold power for about 1500rpm more and it is much much smoother. Before it was super fast spool up and bang in your face, where as now it is much more progressive, a little bit more lag which balances out the revs a lot nicer. I knew all this anyway.

All in all I am super happy. I MUCH prefer the pre-facelift bumper and grill, and I just need to spray the IC pipes black and I'm officially a winner winner chicken dinner.

I've got the Milltek of Prawns track car to go on it at the end of the month, then it's WMI and off up to Niki for some 250bhp K03s goodness.

:)

Good update chap, car is looking very smart.

I love the pics of your car and Pierres together, it's just like the ultimate homage to how awesome
