XS Power Downpipes & Manifolds

12mm spanner westy.

Bill had to modify the flange on mine to get it to fit onto the head, and two nuts were very difficult to tighten up, and required a cut down open ended spanner with the head ground down thinner.

Mine also needed a dent in runner #1 but that's a known issue with the V1 manifolds.

If I do have issues with the v1 I'll just end up buying a new V2 manifold. my only concern is how long it lasts when given constant abuse, but only time will tell on that one!

I spanked mine hard, and it did 5K with no warpage or cracks. Did better than the 034 lets put it that way.

haha, yea, then again you could make it from tin foil and it'd do better than the 034!

Rather than just hang mine off the XS mani on the A3, I've gone to the extra trouble of getting a proper ko4 turbo support, and also, for what it's worth, I've sourced the bracket and hanger to add the S3 downpipe hanger onto the A3 to hopefully reduce the load on the manifold.

I found the turbo support bracket didn't fit perfectly and needed a small bend to get it to line up, but hopefully it should help a bit.

BILL! What are you saying?? :faint:

He is saying it went straight on the head flat and without catching on the studs... I was there and saw it too... unlike everyone I have seen previously that needed all sorts of buggering about with to allow that to happen... it didn't even need a strategic dent!

Hats off to Welly then :hi: the lad done good.

Hum when there looking this good now. I might just have to get one. Now how do i swindle the money out of the wedding funds?

it was mine that bill test fitted :)

i was very impressed with the fitment and quality. infact i think its fair to say that everyone at b5 was pleasantly surprised :)
mine should be going on in the next 3 weeks, i will then take it to bills and see what it can do, i will be adding wmi aswell :)
if anyone wants a manifold or downpipe package give me a shout. i can get the manifolds for $300 , dp with decat for $325 and dp with sports cat $375 all prices include shipping. all shipments will be marked as gift to save on import tax aswell. Hullcupra225 bought his through me.
@bill i bought some supertech exhaust valves :)

Fitted one today, You have to cut a window in the support bracket if using the o.e k04 charge pipe bracket. Other than that relatively straight forward.

Might also be a few new K04 benchmark figures.

Tuning options looked pretty stale till recently :yahoo:

Oh how quickly you forget!

only a little over 12 months ago, 260-270ish bhp was the absolute limit for ko4 cars on realistic dynos.

Then along came Bills 3'' TIP, and suddenly another 20bhp was available from an otherwise similar set of mods, that has to have been THE biggest advance in ko4 tuning for YEARS.

Perhaps the XS mani will raise that benchmark again, but I'd say ko4 tuning has come along LOADS in recent times with the new era of high flow TIP's.

Will be cool to see if the XS manifold can give impressive gains on a stock turbo though, considering Welly gained 44bhp when fitting it compared to a ported OEM manifold.

The one im building in that pic has rods and all the other add ons. I'm going to try and get as much from the little k04 as possible! Engines going back in tomorrow and I'll be mapping it Saturday. Exciting stuff.

Sounds good ben, can't wait to see the results! be sure to post them on up here.

I think that'll be the first full st2 S3 with the XS manifold and downpipe to be mapped. FIrst one posted up on here for sure anyway

I had 314 BHP with out B5 tip! and that was done in April 2010 i think!

Im the same as you pal but obviously a LCR :) all stage 2 mods but still on stock K04 so will be quite interesting as to what it produces.... Thats if my rod package ever arrives :( untill then nothing happening

Where have you ordered the rods from and how long have you been waiting? I'm only asking because I'll order mine sooner rather then later if there's a big waiting time.

I'd order sooner rather than later just to ve on the safe side as I had to wait nearly a month when I wasn't even fussy of brand or type ie rifle drilled

OEM vag bearings are sputter type so I understand... the top half is anyway... vag specify different part numbers for the top half and bottom half shells of the big ends... top half being more expensive than the bottom...

Im waiting on a friend to get me a price for some rods for you! I asked yesterday and gave me a rough price but he`s going to find out exact costs. Eagle rods from Mazworks in america. They`ve just started doing 1.8t stuff so he`s finding out.

You sir are a star :friends:

I know S3dave has Eagle rods in his motor. I've looked about for them and they do come up a bit cheaper then other rods but need to pay to get them in from the US. Let me know when you get some info though mate.

Will do. He said yesterday he thinks they`re around £250 but he`s going to double check today. He`s ordered quite a bit from Mazworks and im pretty sure he said they mark it in a different way because its to his business he doesnt pay the tax`s and stuff. Could have heard it wrong but we`ll see what he comes back with.

that rod package looks pretty good to me! £440 shipped to the UK for the rods, cambelt, head gasket, head bolts, sounds very good indeed. Don't think they're riffle drilled though are they?

Could be another good option.

I've fitted Brutes to mine.

The Brutes are also rifle drilled, which i wouldnt go without. Audi fitted the stock rods with rifle drillings to ensure sufficient lubrication at the small ends, i've no idea why you'd want to make the lubrication potentially worse when your building a motor, so for me rifle drilled rods are a must.

IE do offer a rifle drilling service, but the Brutes are cheaper than drilled IE's, and the I beam design of the brutes is apparently stronger than the H, although thats probably speculative at best.

Think i paid $600 for the Brute rods, some coated big end bearings and shipping, then some tax when it landed.

whats difference/benifits of riffle drilled over the ones in the above package?

Rifle drilled have a small channel down the middle of them so that oil can lubricate the small bearings more efficiently. Standard rods are rifle drilled.

Some people with non rifle drilled rods have developed a tapping noise from a lack of lubrication of the small bearings.

For an extra £70 I think it's worth getting rifle drilled.

i wish i got the drilled ones. does anyone know where i can get my rods rifle drilled?

Engines back in and running.
Revo stage 2 loaded on.

Full results to follow after about 50miles, an oil change and boost and timing added.

Jason can u let me no about price for rods please I'm after some asap pal

I installed my 3" dpipe and exhaust manifold. a lot of pictures here
http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...-exhaust-manifold-install-pictures-heavy.html

this summer i will add the badger5 tip and a custom remap (the car is stock for now), do you think i need rods with that? I know they are weak but i prefer not to change them if i can pass without it

I personally would advise it, mine chucked a rod about 10days after having a map, no idea if it was the map, it was more likely just bad luck but if anyone ever asks me from now on i would say change rods before any major map
