Hi B8'ers

I'm considering the move from B7 to B8, so a couple of questions, has anyone done the same, if so is it a good move? What is the 2.0T FSI (211ps) like, anyone got an opinion?
I have a BT unit that was fitted to my B7 Rns-e, can this be swapped into the B8?

thanks in advance

Mac

Went from a B7 Sline 2.0TDI to a B8 Sline 2.0TDI - Worlds apart. Ride, cabin, style and gadgets are all far superior IMHO.

I currently have the B7 2.0 TDI 170, what BHP is yours

I went from an 06 B7 2.0tdi sline 140bhp to a 09 B8 2.0tdi 170bhp sline (mapped to 200bhp).No comparison.B7 much better build quality (just check the door hinges...solid knuckles on the B7 fiat puntos on the B8).Ride much sharper and planted than the B7.Great paint on the B7, loadsa orange peel on the B8.

Doesn't sound to good, got myself a test drive this Sat, so will be paying attention to your points:beerchug:

I had the 140, on the B7, 56 plate and moved to the 143 on the B8. Car and road tax dropped dramatically as the old B7 was filthy by the taxman's CO2 calculator. I also had some issues with the chrome inserts bubbling from underneath on the B7 with no visible cracks to speak of. Did scrub up well though! Liquid Blue Metallic.

Having just covered 42k in the first year of owning the car, I can honestly state I would take it over the B7 anyday. Only issue has been 2 blown B&O speakers, replaced under warranty. DAB is crap and I wish I hadn't bothered and spent the cash on heated seats now. I was also forever putting oil into the old engine and as for ride quality, there wasn't any. The B8 even with the extra 20mm drop is worlds apart in ride quality. Styling is superb, phantom black, just had the windows tinted and am very happy with it. My mate chose the BM 318d sport, and now wishes he'd taken the Audi.

Having only owned the B7 for a year, Johnny may be in a much better position to advise.

In three years of ownership of the B7, the only problems were replaced lumber support on the drivers seat (three) and a blown fns speaker. It had full sline suspension which was stiff, but thats the way i like it.
In almost three years with the B8, ive had new headlights, new drivers door mirrror motor (2) and a second gear synchro replaced.I had difficulty in selecting 1st and 2nd gear from new, with a lot of sideways movement of the stick whilst in gear.Eventually cured with differant oil, but still have the loose stick. It came with a crappy 20mm drop cos i had the 19" wheels and couldnt have the 30 mm sline drop.Rides like a blamange even after uprating the arb's.I guess it was this that made me fall out with the B8 along with its poor paint, saisho radio/aircon buttons and general dumbing down of quality.True, it has more toys, but id rather it drove better. Also disappointed with the 170 engine...not much of a diff from the 140.MPG is awful, only getting 420 to a tank before the bong that works out at 32mpg whether i thrash it or not.And the dis lies.
But this is MY opinion of the B8.There are a lot of other owners that are real happy. My perfect solution wold be a bmw engine and chassis with the audi body.Cos the B8 sure looks good.

Understand why you feel the way you do now. I did get the 30mm drop, not 20, and like the handling, this was despite the stealers advising me strongly against it. The toys are more important for me than the handling as I virtually live in it, 1500 miles last week and only cover mostly motorway driving. I will defo try the BMW next time though as the new 2012 version has a lot more toys in it.

Fair comment. My mate has a new 520d.There are some serious toys on that. All ****** extra though!

I skipped the B7 and went for the B8 because I couldn't really see much of a difference between the B6 and B7. The B8 for me was a great move, particularly the avant because it is so much more practical with the boys and their stuff.

I had the standard B6 sport with only electric windows in the back as an extra and again my B8 is the standard S-Line with parking sensors as an extra. But with the B6, I wished I had chosen a whole load more optional extras, whereas the B8 I am happy with everything. The B8 has so much more to offer as standard, although I do wish I went for the Quattro. On the wet roads, the car finds it really difficult to plant its power. This might be down to tyre choice, but I think the Quattro would be more suited to this type of engine. But subtle things like the sound system volume reducing when you put the car in reverse allowing you to hear the parking sensor system just makes me feel as if Audi have really thought about things.

The 2.0T isn't mind blowingly fast, but I do find it fun, particularly after moving from the 160ps 1.8T. I always felt slightly threatened by most diesels with my 1.8T, but feel a lot more confident with the 2.0T. Yesterday I left the roundabout and entered a dual carriageway and as I started to overtake a Passat 2.0TDI 4 Motion, I noticed I had to work a bit harder to overtake him. He obviously thought it was a challenge, but I left him sucking on petrol fumes. I slowed to allow a car further up ahead to overtake another car, so the Passat caught up with me. He obviously wanted another pop, but gave up after he sucked on my fumes for a second time.

I took my colleage out a while ago, he has the Golf GTI 2.0T, and even he was really suprised by the performance, considering it was a bus compared to his. He felt it was just as quick. On my usual 125 mile run carrying the famiily and a boot full of stuff, I get around 39mpg. But if I take it easy, I have reached as much as 44mpg which is really good for a petrol engine.

Hope this helps. but is it worth waiting to see what 2012 brings?
