New S3 (8P) Gearknob

lol agreed you'd be mad to fit one without an airbag. can pick one up from ebay but might not be cheap

erm, if read this right and from past info off here.....that airbag doesnt work with the 8L chassis...you do know that dont you kingfisher? unless you've devised a new system to integrate it?

just making sure you understand what the chaps above are trying to tell you (assuming you think its plug and play)

Gear knob mod looks good, however i dont have the little s3 on the steering wheel as i have the fat one with the stereo controls :(

Yeh correct it's not plug & play - the wiring needs tweaking. I found a VW/Audi electrical specialist near me in Tooting to retro fit it onto my 8L. I made sure he was able to wire the 8P airbag properly so it works otherwise I prob wouldn't have bothered. He said he does them all the time. I bought the wheel complete for about £400 from eBay (Germany) and got it fitted it for £50. His co since moved to Hemel Hempstead but website is Home - Vw & Audi Sat Nav, Bluetooth , TV Tuners, Cruise Control Installations UK if you're interested.
Back to the orginal subject though the 8P gearknob is sublime - definitely recommended!!

Did the gear knob change tonight ;)
followed your guide, took around 15 mins to do. I opted for the red stitching and megga impressed looks so much better.

Not the best pic but it's there ;)

Anyone looked or cut the gear stick down? I think its way too high!

Mines at an alright height! The hardest part was getting it to fit the damn base!!

Was thinking the same after I stripped it. But then thought about the bagging in the gater As there was not a chance I was taking a pair of scissors to it.

Yeh bit fiddley that bit, had to keep stretching it round and staple gunned it to death.

looks great, nice little mod,
your next mod should be some permanent marker and nail varnish, 20 minutes on the aircon buttons.Would really take peoples eyes back onto the gearknob.
well done!

Ordered mine today with the silver stitching :), getting dad to pick it up for me tomorrow, should have been £96 but haggled them down to a straight £90 lol. Also bought some tt pedals off ebay to go nicely with it.

Ninety quid !!!
Lmao mine was sixty two

It is so worth it ( getting L'Oreal ),cannot believe the standard one or the chrome one ?? they are pants compared to it Dan

Right, am truely f***ed off.

Thought id fit my new gear knob today, didnt realise you had to strip both gators down so you could swap the bases over, anyway no biggy, swapped them over. Stappled the front of the gatod to the base, struggled like hell to straple that plastic, wrapped the rest of the gator under the plastic.
Fitted it all in, looked bangin. Took the car out earlier and realised it was struggling goin into 2,4,6, rralised it was down to the trnsion on the gator, 1,3,5 are fine.
Anyone else had this? Btw mines a prefacelift if that meks any difference!

Ermm keep with the old one,I did as the stitching does not match my interior

So youve kept the old gator? I prefer the new one though, the silver stitching matchs my leather.

Well everyone says the cream interior is silver and the new gearknob has white/silver stitching.

Dani, mine did the same so at the base where you stapled the gaitor, take them off and lift the gaitor up so it's just about on the base. Then glue it down. That's what I did and its fine now. The base on the prefacelift is longer so the top bit of the base has to barely fit in order to get it in 6th. Hope that helps mate.

The stitching matches perfectly with the cream interior - I have it so can concur. Def get the gaiter if you have the cream interior...

****** prefacelifts lol.

Thought thats what id need todo, any particular glue you used gops?
