Hi Guys,

My first issue since buying my s3 a few weeks ago, last week my car started to make a rattling noise towards the front of the car when i let off from accelerating. could this be a problem with the exhaust downpipe or something like that? i have no idea about mechanics etc so if someone can point me in the right direction that'll be great.

Cheers

lol you'll have to go on a mad hunt to find what part is vibrating, does it do it if you rev it whilst stationary??

yeah it does when i rev it while stationery too, but only just started to do it last week whilst driving. its a hard noise to explain i'd like to get it sorted though.

i had this stupid rattle a couple of weeks ago, i thought it was my heat shield but it turned out my exhaust had moved over a little so it was vibrating off the underneath of the car pretty weird i have no idea how it had moved

well i did hit a rather deep pot hole the other day, only going at snails pace but it might of shifted something :S

Did you ever sort the problem? I've just discovered I have the same problem but am worried it may be the cat.

I had it too, its was the heat shield after I clobbered it. I just pulled it off as it only had one spot weld holding it back on. I think most of them had corroded anyway and hitting it on something was the final nail in the coffin for it.

Its only a shield on the underside of it to stop you setting fire to long grass when you park up so nothing major!

I had this, was the heat shield too. Pulled it off! Problem solved!

Yeah easy job lol. Mine was only held on by two heavily corroded bolts!

Typical car, couldn't get it off, 2 front bolts come off fairly easy but it seems the 2 rear and middle have fallen off and corroded to the heat shield and wont budge, was hitting with a mallet and tried chipping away at the corroded metal but no luck. Any tips?

use a circular badger saw with a 7" weenie hammer :D

beside been silly how about trying to heat it up with a blow torch or use a drill to get it off if you get what i mean

Don't own a blowtorch or decent drill :( my friend works at a garage ill pop down his and get it done, i've had enough getting under the car this week.

Thanks anyway
