I completed the aux input install detailed in DIY: Aux Input for Symphony II+on my Concert II+, but with a slight modification. Instead of mounting the socket in the dash I chose to route it to the arm rest. My reasoning was that I don't like a cluttered dash (cup holders, phone holders etc...) so this way my media player can be hidden away. The added advantage is the DJ (oldest daughter) can be seated in the back and still control the decks. Just fortunate she has good taste in tunes (Rock!). Pics to follow.

Good work though I think yours is the Symphony 3 not 2.

I want to do this to mine but mine is the 2 so I dont think it will work.

Mine is a Concert II+, I think the Symphony has the CD Changer which I don't.

Symphony 3 is what's fitted to the B8 A4.

Later B7 A4's have the Symphony/Concert II+, with early B7's and all B6's having the Symphony/Concert II.

So if I have a concert 2 can the aux input be added?

Im trying to fit the symphony III part no. 8E0 035 195 AD in to a b7 which has a Concert whjich plays mp3. Will it be avsimple straight swap?

Also i have nokia bluetooth kit connected - wil the symphony work with it?

Thanks

I have a symphony II+ (the one in this post) which has mp3 support and works fine with my nokia bluetooth carkit

I have a concert II stereo which I was planning on adding a jack in the glove box, does anyone know if I can solder the aux cable into the back of the stereo as I would prefer not to have to pay 30 euro for a aux cable with jack

Only the Concert II+, Symphony II+ and RNS-E support the separate Aux In - with all other Audi radios you would need the CD changer adapter to get an Aux In.

Thanks for the update. My question is what connections at the back of the stereo are the CD inputs left and right
This guy seems to show how to do it, but not sure why he uses a relay
An Auxiliary Audio Input to the Audi OEM Head Unit and CD Changer
What's he's doing is putting the relay in the analog audio connection between the CD changer and the head unit - when you throw the additional switch the relay operates so when you select CD on the head unit what it actually receives is the Aux In audio.

So you also have to fit this additional switch to choose between CD changer and Aux In somewhere on the dash - and you can't use a standard Audi dash switch as they are all momentary and not latching.

But the Concert II is a CD Player so I wouldnt have to switch between a multi CD player and the AUX
Is there a multi CD input and if so can you connect direct to it without the relay using just a jack to jack cable

Yes you would, switching between the internal CD player and the external one is built-in to the firmware (the internal CD is CD1 - or 1 to 6 if it's a changer like on the Symphony - and the external CD changer is CD 7 to 12 (or CD 2 to 7)).

Nope, the head unit needs to see the correct information on the CD data line to know that there is a CD changer (or emulator) plugged in - without that it won't enable the CD audio input.

Just plugged in VCDS to check I can activate the aux in before running wires, and it won't connect to the radio. Connects to everything else fine and I even changed a few bits here and there as a test but won't talk to the radio. I have a concert 2+. Any bright ideas?
My plan was to take out the radio at the weekend and check none of the plugs are loose but considering it all works I doubt this will fix it.
Any help greatfully received.

Fixed it! My VCDS cable only did canbus not k-line

Good day peoples. New user here.
Does anyone know if you can do the coding with VCDS? Or any suggestions for me.
I bought a 2007 A4 2.0 tdi and want to add AUX. I've already done what @yorkster001 did, even before finding this thread, but then I ran into a problem when I wanted to do the coding. I have a Concert II+ head unit, which can take AUX, but when I used a legitimate VCDS tool, to my disappointment I saw my radio module is not connected to/via the CAN bus (and a whole bunch of other modules as well)
After doing the auto-scan, and also some digging on the webs, it seems that some B7 Audi's still used K-line for diagnostics.
SO the wiring has been done, but I can't do the coding via VCDS.
I have also seen the Silent CD/CD changer audio inject route, but the car did NOT come with a cd changer added.
I know its possible to buy a harness/product, that you can plug in at the back, but ideally I would like to find some way I can do it myself.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I fitted a connects 2 kit to my old symphony unit. It was plug and play and didn't require coding if i remember correctly. You just pressed twice to get the aux input working

I took an AUX socket from an A3 and mounted it into a blank on slot on the dash next to the hazzard switch. From memory (but it was 5 years ago) no VCDS coding was needed you just keep pressing the CD button untill it says Aux.

Thanks for replying, but yeah, it seems the auxiliary have already been enabled then. On my radio, pressing CD multiple times or even holding it, does nothing. Just says no CD, and goes back to playing radio. I know you can buy kits, but I want to do it myself. I have already wired and AUX, also into a blank button. My problem is VCDS does not pick up the radio/nav module, so I can't change the coding.
For interest sake, I have check in the instruments module, under the CAN infotainment adaption, that it is set to 17 (instruments cluster+16 and radio +1) so it should be there. Have also checked that the K-line is plugged in, into pin C7.
One potentially weird thing, that I measured, is that CAN H was 1.8V and CAN L was 3.2 V, on the quadlock connector, which is inverted according to my limited CAN knowledge. But the looking at the standard AUDI wire colour codes, it seems to be wired correctly.
I'm running out of options/ideas, and only thing left to try I guess is swopping the CAN wires around, and see if VCDS picks it up then.
Anyone know if this will definitely be a bad thing? or is the worst that can happen, that it doesn't work, and then I just swop it back?
