1.8T AGU questions

after being on this forum for 2 months still struggling to learn stuff about my car,only had it for a little over a month its a 1999 1.8T AGU pre-facelift.Just a few questions I would like to ask.

* I have a KO3 turbo are there any major benefits of upgrading to the KO3s or is there a better bolt on turbo for my A3?

*How would I know if my cambelt is on its way out?

*My car is stock standard it has jus over 100k on the clock is it ok to remap it,if I do remap it what other engine parts
should I upgrade to keep the engine running strong?Has full service history.

*I didnt receive an owners manual for my A3 what does the button by the drivers door do?its an isolated button its a car with like a "signal" coming off it.

*If I change my headunit to an after market 1 with RDS will it still display the radio station on the D.I.S?

*What does CANBUS mean?I know my car doesnt have it just wondering

*I Dont understand whats the difference between a de-cat and cat exhaust I know the 1 has a catalyst and the other
doesnt,which is the better 1?

*Whats the best oil for it?how often should I top up?

Yes..loads more power and no, not without spending a load of cash.

You wont, it'll just snap. When was it done?, if it was some time ago I'd get it changed just so you know its fine.

If its been serviced then it'll be fine, but remaps can make old coil packs have a wobbler but nothing to worry about.

It turns off the sensors for the alarm so you can leave a dog in the car or park it up with the bank windows open. Stops the alarm being triggered from inside.

I dont think so no

Different sort of wiring, more found on modern cars.

Decat for performance but a pain come MOT time. Standard cats arent that bad anyway...not worth it unless you're planning a full turbo back exhaust.

Top it up when it needs it, check the level on a regular basis and keep on top of oil changes. I do mine myself every 6K miles to ensure the turbo has nice clean oil.
 
hi ive just done a turbo up grade to a gt28r and it not been cheap. was wondering if £3473 was good

ive done the turbo, intercooler, 550cc injectors ,plug and play harnesses and spacers, aem piggyback ecu. it was done at a garage
 
i have a 1998 1.8t AUG with 142000 on the clock and have just had it remapped, induction kit and silicone turbo intake pipe and uprated dv fitted and its still pulling like a train so at 100k you have nothing to worry about. i did the remap, tip and induction kit for just over £200

Yeah! I'm thinking about going for a hybrid turbo within the next year and I've done SO much planning already and I'll have done the job 100 times over in my head before I've even bought the first bit.

So for somebody to pop up like "I've got a GT28, I paid this much. If that good? :drag:" seems a bit alien haha!
