My DIY guide for Retro fitting Puddle Lights

It looks like on the newer A4 models (post 07) which run the CAN system footwell lights could be fitted. Will confirm when i know 100%.

All A3's have red reflectors in the doors, they are dummy blank ones. You need to replace them with red lights and fit a loom.

Do you ship to the US? Can you tell me how much you would charge for each individual kit? Thanks

Nue318 i do ship to the US, have had a few members from the US having looms from me.

You got pm.

hi robin.

sorry for late reply, been a tad busy.
those lights and harnesses arrived safe and sound....well impressed with the quality, absolutely spot on.

speak to you soon,

regards.........Alan.

Just got these looms through from Robin today...excellent work mate, quality is 100%

just want to clarify.... for both door cards i need pins 18 and 19 for an MY09 car?

Confirmed....it is pin 18 + 19 as there are no pins @ 1 + 2 on the MY09....

spent this morning in the rain fitting a set of lights to a B6 Avant, thankfully Alan was very helpful with drilling the holes etc and finally got them all working!

looking good those mate.....

Will post up pics of mine once i have the footwell lights in, absolutely chuffed to bits with the door lights...... just this minute finished fitting them, took me about 2 hours in total due to sussing out which pins, otherwise a half hour per side job (assuming full light and no rain!)

Strange... Don't seem to have any of these 'how to fit puddle lights' threads for the 8L S3.

The 8L doesn't support these lights, the control system for the lighting etc is a lot different to the 8P control system.

Robin he's taking the **** mate ;) , the 8L S3 had the puddle/warning lights as standard :readit:

Lol, clutching at straws mate, all I had haha...

:beerchug:

How much for looms for a 04 3 door A3, for both footwell lights, puddle lights, warning lights, and handle illumination?

Do you supply the actual lights yet? If not do you have the additional part numbers on top of the guide for the handle illumination?

Thanks, Joe

I fitted Robins looms last week, absolutely brilliant OEM looking looms and do the job nicely - heres some pics i managed to take last night showing the warning/puddle/footwell lights

no brainer of a mod and the first thing i did - i know its been said a million times but cant beleive the bellend who bought my car didnt spec thse for the sake of £80

is it an £80 option? i thought it was a part of the lighting pack which was around £300

i thought the lighting pack was £80 mate..... cant be ***** to check though :)

sure it wasnt as much as £300 but i have ben wrong before ;) also just been quoted £77 from Stoke for the map reading lights, seeing as i will most likel never use, i'm gonna keep my eye on the bay as you suggested Robin ;)

Finally got my puddle lights and footwell lights coded in today. Working perfectly. Another big thumbs up for Robin's workmanship and excellent service.:anbet:
Cheers fella.

Think I need to order a set of puddle lights for the rear doors now though, should have got em all at the same time:think:

Many people buy just the fronts to try out how hard it is to fit and then realise its really easy and then they come back for the rear door looms!

If you've got a cabriolet you'll know that the single light on the one side isn't really enough. The boot opening isn't particularly large then add in the fact that your own shadow blocks most outside light from reaching the boot means a lot of rummaging around in the dark :ermm:

After fitting Robins puddle lights to the doors I had the idea of extending the existing wiring harness to add a second light on the other side of the boot, whilst wishing to keeping all existing wiring intact.

A few emails later and Robin had modified a new light fitting to include a new extension cable. Simple to fit, just remove your existing light fitting, plug Robbins modified fitting in its place then route the cable along the cars existing cable paths across the rear of the boot. You'll need to remove the rear and offside boot trim in order to get access to these cable runs, but that pretty easy.:icon_thumright:

The hardest part of the install is cutting the hole for the new light fitting, but if you've fitted the puddle lights then its no harder.

Cable length was pretty much spot on considering I was guestimating with all the trim in place at the time.

With the cable following existing cable runs, so as to use existing mounting clips etc, also leaving a little slack to pull the fittings forward to change bulb I'd say it was fine at that length. If I was being pedantic you could make it 50mm shorter for a perfect fit, but loosing the 50mm was easy.

I thought it might be useful to show that now you can actually see what's in the boot at night! The picture's been taken by a cheap automatic camera with the flash turned off. Since pretty much the whole of the boot is black its not the ideal way to take the picture, however you can see that there is enough light to pick out certain details.

The worst bit was removing the door cards, it did take some force!
