List of embarrassed owners....

lol - from the first post it was all about willy waving - surely there has to be someone on here who thinks they can beat me to 100mph!

It depends what your driving :)

vxr's in the wet is just comical

guys this wasnt meant to turn into a who has the biggest........etc.....

The bentley was an 05 and the standard GT, not a supersport, the numberplate was o'brian in private numbers but they are not that fast, my tuned B5 S4 which wasnt even K04'd at the time pushed one, couldnt pass him but he wasnt going anywhere, and my s3 would thrash my old s4.

The C4s was trying but to put a few things to rest a classic video, ‪Porsche 911 4S (320hp)vs. tuned Audi S3 (360hp)‬‏ - YouTubeocus RS's again, if the surface is damn in anyway they are a handful, plus 4wd off a roundabout cant be touched....

how anyone could stop at a remap is beyond me ;)

Oh and had a Lurid Green Focus RS this morning, i beat him in my evo and have now beaten him in the S3, loved the look on his face as 'just' a S3 blasted past him!

You clearly have an S3 that is really rather rapid but do be careful as sooner or later somebody will hand you your ****.

This is my friends Focus RS with over 400bhp proven, he has spent time since the cars release developing tuning packages and they are selling very very well.

OMG that looks BADBOY!

They may be sold as 300bhp but most when rr`d have put out around 280. Was a frequent conversation on the MPS forums when my missus had her 3MPS so possibly the reason why on the road they arent as quick as they should be on paper.

that Focus RS looks amazing!!!

But then yes 400bhp with less drivetrain losses and also 10 years newer then i would be prepared to be whooped :anbet:

I once had my backside kicked by a Transit van, turned out the engine was in the middle and out of a TVR. Went like absolute stink. lol

Got smoked by a 1.2 clio this morning, had to put the hazzards on as it went round me!!

MY CLUTCH PEDAL HAD JUST SNAPPED/BROKE :scared2:

Oh I see, were comparing standard cars against audis that have had mental money spent... Unfortunately even stage 1 s3's are slow... That's why I have a bike... 0-60 in under 3 seconds, top speed of 70 on uk roads... But I hear you can touch 185mph

+1 there. Unless its got a different turbo I just dont think they are fast when you compare them to today's hot hatches. I feel they are really beginning to feel there ages these S3.

I used to really like these thread but some peoples experiences are a bit......... far fetched.

what sort of times you guys do at GTI down the strip, didnt see too many good times.

Well it's all relative isn't it,I'd say they are quick considering their weight as it's not all about speed or we would all be driving Nissan pulsars

Well you say they are quick for there weight but they weigh near near enough or a bit more than a ED30 and standard vs standard I would say a ED30 would edge away.

When tuned its a different story, a stage 2+ ED30 is seeing around 340+ bhp. To get that from a S3 you need a BT setup or a hybrid ko4 with exhaust maNI and rods and it all expensive then.

What everyone seems to forget is the S3 dont put that much power down at the wheel and there quarter mile times rarely seem to be that great. Im not 100% on this but seen a standard S3 dyno about 150bhp at the wheels when on a 4wd dyno.

I can beleive that, when I first bout my 11 yr old it would've probably ran about 150 a the wheels, purely because all the pipes were perished and it was running low on power.

However a healthy S3 standard would run more than that, the drive train loss is 15% not 33.3% , so you would expect 190+ at the wheels from a 225. Still low i agree, but not as low as 150, plus a FWD edition 30 for example looses more power between wheels and tarmac than an S3 when launched.

Ed 30 is a newer car,if your going to slate the S3 then it has to be a car in the same era with better looks/stance/build/rep

plus a FWD edition 30 for example loses more power between wheels and tarmac than an S3 when launched.
Yep I beat one at Inters on the 1/4 mile...the driver was not happy

415lbs my anus. 415nm more like.

415nm = 306lbs which sounds about right for your bhp figure.

NO!!! 415lbsft (about 540nm). I knewe somebody would come along and say this. Courtenay always say about their VXR remap that its not the bhp gains that are phenomenal, its the torque gains. Whats up? Can't you accept that a lowly Vauxhall could reach that? Believe it and read the link attached. Its not my figures or my imagination or even my penis swinging, its what they gain. simple fact.

However I do have a correction to make, it was 405 not 415 lbsft.

Vectra VXR Tuning

and thats just a stage one.

There is a vectra VXR running around with 342bhp and 430lbsft with a Courtenay stage 3, and I don't know how the guy keeps it on the road tbh

I was referring to a 210bhp as thats what I have. There are a lot of things which contribute to transmission losses but a average FWD car typically lose about 15%, RWD few more % and 4WD lose around 5-9% more than a FWD setup. Some old scoobies lose around 30%.

From what I have seen from the dyno readings members upload on here they tend to loss around 40-50bhp. Why is 150bhp so mad for. A S3 which dyno's about 200bhp at the fly will gives around 150bhp at the wheels on a 4WD dyno.

So 210bhp S3 losing around 20-24% should run about 168bhp - 159bhp so not far off what I said I can remember seeing a S3 running about 150bhp at the wheels. As great as flywheel figures are, wheel figures are what really counts if you refer to dyno's that is.

Ye I would agree with cars from a similar age as a 8L such as a MK4, Astra GSI (If thats what they were call), ST17,. the S3 is high up there. I mentioned a ED30 because its of similar age as a VXR and ST/RS which are being mention above. Was also showing how much we have to do to our engines to get similar engine performance once a modern engine is tuned.

What time and terminal speed did you run.

Fair and valid points, totally get what you mean, and im not going to argue that the s3 8L is a young car, it is getting long in the tooth and yes technology is advancing.

The haldex system however doesn't have anywhere near as much loss as perm AWD , and the 210 part is moot IMO because history shows that when dyno'd standard both 225 and 210 cars make just shy of 230bhp (flywheel) Dyno lotto dependant of course (s3 210 standard bhp - Google Search).
I Stand by my opinion that there are a lot of tired S3's out there making poor power, but a looked after one will hold its own against a like for like much younger car (Mk5 GTI Turbo, Focus St220). What Haldex Looses in Drive train power it makes up for in Grip.

My best at inters was 5.18 and 13.8 at c. 100 with an unfinished k04 hybrid etc etc

What was you running then Dane, I lost count with the amount of turbo's you have run on your car lol.

What time and terminal speed did you run.

I haven't a clue it might of been 5.8-60 14 for the quarter just under a ton mph,it was a while ago but I am not lying as I spoke to the chap afterwards in the timesheet cue afterwards.

Airflow suggested roughly 280 brake, but my current airflow suggests c. 280 brake and the power/delivery from even the unfinished hybrid was far far superior.

OK I'll give it a go. Rolling start at 99? haha

i reckon i could beat you to 100 if you have a rolling start at 75mph lol

It depends what your driving :)

lol

id race ur crosser to 100 lol

you wouldn't stand a chance, even at 60mph it pulls away from my mapped s3

a friend of mine has the same bike foook me it shifts

is it a 660 smc? they are pretty rare, mine has about 65lb and 59bhp, seems crap really, but the power delivery is just immense

i think its a 660smc not greatly clued up on bikes i know its a 600 and something cc ktm crosser and tops out at just over 100mph

If i've calculated my transmission losses correctly i'm losing approx. 17%.
254bhp at the fly, 210 at the wheels.

BMWs with more than one number on the back are my favourite fodder.

haha, so none of the M cars then? You'll be ******** when you come up against a 135.....
