Accident with motorbike yesterday

Hi guys

Had an awful accident yesterday where a motorbike lost it taking a left hand bend at 80mph. Rear tyre hit the o/s front bumper and wheel/alloy, front tyre copped the rear o/s door, sill, alloy/wheel and rear panel... Needless to say 1) I can't believe no injuries and 2) I'm gutted!!!

Car is a right mess... We were towing the caravan at the time which was also damaged although not as bad. Just about got home but car won't do more than 40mph without becoming unstable at the wheel.

All I'm worried about now is the car getting written off and if I do get it back will it still have the integrity i.e safety wise. I cant afford it to be written off... Won't be able to buy the same car again for the silly values they pay out.

On that note, would I be silly to take my car to Audi for repair? I'd have more confidence in the repair if it was done by Audi, but if their prices are high, there's more chance of them writing the car off which I don't want. OMG what should I do??

Has anyone else been in this position before? I haven't so forgive me if they sound like silly questions.

Car is a 53 plate A6 Avant 2.5TDI quattro sport.

have you exchanged insurance details with the biker / those involved - make sure you deal with your insurer direct as well, brokers and outsourced claims handlers are a nightmare

you will need to also notify your insurers

check your policy - in terms of repairs and assessors, make sure you enquire about the repair agents you may or may not be able to use. usually you can specifiy a repairer (if car is authorised for reapir) but this can be capped by an hourly or day rate - audi dealer will prob be way above that.

agree what is happening and don't be bullied - other thing to watch is to not release the car until you have agreed what is happening to it, some insurers will sell the car out from under you and the car you release to 'storage' will be potentially written off and stripped without you knowing or agreeing with the insurer! not a nice thing to happen

Quick update, Audi want £6k for the repairs, and car isnt worth much more apparently. Everything is pointing to a write off at the moment, but knowing that insurers don't pay out reasonably, I'm now worried that that I won't be able to replace my car.

It's quite a rare car, in that the interior is a nice slick black leather with matching graphite trim... I'm not a fan of cream and walnut (hope I don't offend anyone!!). Despite high mileage, the car is fab and locally I can't find anything the same, only similar, but that means alot to me. We hunted a long time for this particular car because we are fussy, but ultimately the car was also worth more as you would expect if it was a rare example.

Feeling quite sorry for myself at the mo.

If they right the car off just buy it back and get the repairs done by a local trusted garage.

From experiance and reading other posts on here, it seems like most trusted grages are better than Audi any way.

Before they hand you any cash over for your car they will tell you how much they are offering value wise.
DO NOT ACCEPT THEIR FIRST OFFER. Find other examples of your car and if their sale price is more than what the insurance people are offering you, wright back and explain to them that the car is worth more and hopefully they will revise their offer and give you more for it, if it is writen off.

Don't worry too much about the car being written off, if it has been looked after, good mileage, full service history etc they should pay out what it is worth or even more.

I wrote off our old allroad in a ford, we paid £4950 for it & 6 months later when it got written off we got £6250 from the insurance company. The first offer they gave us was £3260! We obviously said no way & got a better offer, only took around 6 weeks from accident to payout. 2 months after the accident I bought an S6 with the pay out.

I also looked on ebay & autotrader at prices of the same car, spec, mileage, history etc & sent the adverts to the insurance company to show what it would cost to replace the same car spec etc.

Wish i'd seen this sooner. Rest assured you will struggle to find the same car in the same condition they are like hobby horse droppings. Having been somewhere similar with almost exact same car i'd say DONT go to Audi go to the local body shops. Can you still buy it back? Talk to the local body shops and see what they can do to find a way of keeping the price down.

It was the damage you couldn't see underneath that was the problem... Cannot believe the amount of damage if I'm honest. And to be fair, who know what damage might have been caused to the quattro and transmission etc... Maybe they've done me a favour??!?

Have done exactly this and the repairs still topped £6k car is purchasable at around £2200 but wouldnt be same car again... I am gutted. Couldn't afford to lose this car. To get anything remotely similar we had to spend £2k more but have gone a year and a half newer. Still not happy though... I want my old car!!! Humph

If anyone wants the salvage pls get in touch lol. I've also got a load cover, dog/luggage guard for sale if anyone wants them.

Best thing is go to a well known and trusted claims management company.
Theyl get u da best value for the car and all the headache is thers. Some even give u a courtesy car till you get paid out, and all te cost id covered through third party so no loss to you.

Trust me on this as it happened to me a couple of times and insurance screwed me around, didnt realy care and just had me waitin for ages then 2nd time i went to a claims management company and got a courtesy car and my claim looked after. I also got realy good money for my.
