DUMP VALVES! sorry! :( lol

i have searched.. and before i spend out.. i would like a DEFINATE answer!

car in questions is a 180bhp a3 quattro sport. AJQ engine..

i know i obviously only have the choice of fully recirc or part recirc..

so basically...

Forge Split-R or 007p? what noises does each one give? i love the sound of chatter..

which gives best performance?

i need to order one pretty soon as my standard recirc valve is making a funny noise! lol

007p is going to be the best solution, you'll hear it more if you have a cone filter
 
whats the advantages of this over the Split-R? i have a smoothed and drilled air box at the minute, its already quite loud on the standard recirc tbh! get some nice chatter!

The Forge Recirc Valve is more than enough! It's not like you are running a huge turbo or anything.

I think the only question that will get you shot is saying your thinking about buying a split-r ....lol



Stick with the 007 (I've got a bailey dv30) ;)
 
that was my next question lol my mate has offered me a Bailey dv30 cheap.. neverheard of these (dam i hate being new to the turbo world...) *runs and does research*

so it is audible! that will do me then! will try knock him down a bit, and ask him nicely to the do n249 bypass on mine too at the same time lol :D cheers. very much appreciated :D

I think you'll need an open filter to get any sound from the DV and for some reason they sound louder from inside the car :shrug:

No offense, but Split Rs are the biggest piece of ***** around.

All I have ever seen them cause is running issues.

Avoid like the plague would be my advice. Stick with the DV30 or the 007P.
 
007 + cai if you want loud dump noise! Normal cone filter is a faint noise! airbox is pretty much silent tbh!
 
If you want chatter then just block off the pipe running to the DV. Sounds great but not good for the Turbo.

Otherise just run an open cone and you should still hear a hiss type noise with the standard DV. I do!
 
at the minute i have just smoothed and driled my air box, it sounds pretty loud as it is tbh. i think with a panel filter it wil be louder.. if i take the air box off all together (obviously dont drive like it! lol) it sounds EXACTLY how i want it to sound, on the standard recirc valve!

i have been offered a DV30 for 60pounds.

was hoping to get a super bargain on one though! lol
 
why dont you fit your dump valve after the intercooler before the inlet? if ppl want tssh thats where the local golf turbos fitted them for more noise,raised this on another thread but it wasnt answered just curious why its not being done?
 
I had a Split-r and changed it to a 007p, Bloke i got the Split-r had done the same. Tells you a story about split-r's........
 
i know the best way to make it louder (i done it on my mates s14a last night) is to shorten the pipe.. my mates golf had a fully atmesheric (sp?) baileys and in standard place it made the normal tishhh, then followed by a weird rattle sound.. if you cut down the pipe and move the DV, it then sharpened up, gave a louder TSHHHH and stopped the after noise! i might move the standard one see if its possible! lol
 
what is so bad about the split r? what does it do? or not as the case may be?
 
ONLY the older 1.8T can run atmospheric dv or block pipes off for chatter! I.E AGU. On the later 1.8T Only option is to run a 007 and cai. Split-r tries to trick the system by doing half/half but doesn't really work. You mention shorten pipe but which one? standard dv sits off the tip etc.

Other location near the throttle body is just the cold side relocation kit. Forge sell it and apparantly makes it run a bit smoother tand I think cuts some of the lag. Ive not heard of this making any noise difference?!
 
the split-r vents some air to the atmosphere, which is why they are a little louder. But the ecu measures the air volume and throws a wobbly if all the air isnt being recirc'd iirc.

not sure what pipe it is on these engines, but on the s14. off the intercooler piping, it ran about 7 inches to the back of the bay, i cut it off around 3 inches off and the sound difference was amazing..

(just spoke to my mate, he said its the one to the left of the DV, is not perfectly straight, has bends in it.. without looking i cant think what pipe that is!) but either way, to shorten one pipe, your going to need to extend the the other as ours need to be recirc.

but as for the AGU engines etc, if you shorten the pipe at go atmospheric the sound difference is insane!
 
the split r isnt just **** generally, its just for our 1.8t's, they just wont run with them reliably, different cars are different in different ways. some run atmospheric, some dont.
 
the one ive seen hasnt relocated the recirc thats still in old position just has an atmos bov on the intercooler pipe so actually runs 2 valves 1 recirc,1 dump. its on an agu lump,would he be losing boost or creating probs running 2 bovs?

i would say, the boost would take the easiest route out.. (being the atm DV) so i would say the recirc wouldnt see enough boost?
 
i thought that he said the forum he wason said to leave recirc valve in as removing could/would affect readings or something which i guess could cause running issues...im learning daily with vag to be honest!
 
same here! lol but, the recirc needs to be in regardless, but if you think, if you have a tyre full of air.. and you have a little hole (the recirc valve) and a big open hole (atmespheric) the air si going to go straight out the bigger of the 2? thats my theory?
 
Yeah i got your theory,the recirc cant get as much air at that end anyway as its pre boost side of intake system,so the atmos dv before the intake would have greater air pressure.like bein back at school lol

Should also be mentioned that blocking off the DV on any K03/4 turbo'd car will potentially damage your turbo as this WILL induce compressor stall and CAN break the spindly little K0x shaft... DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK AS PERMANENT DAMAGE TO YOUR TURBO CAN AND DOES HAPPEN WITH COMPRESSOR STALL!...

Im no expert to be fair but have seen plenty AGU with atmosherics and read it loads of times on various forums! I ran mine with a 007 with cai as it was easiest for me.

Agreed compressor charge is a bad idea sounds goos but WILL break the turbo eventually lol

Not saying you can't as you CAN (as you say) run a BOV on any 1.8t BUT it WILL suffer the same issues as other 1.8t's... you blow metered air to the atmosphere it will run rich... its that simple...

ive been experimenting with a blitz bov on my ary engined a3,the throttle seems to be a bit sharper and it doesnt seem to show any signs of faults.as for fuelling ,im not too sure.i took it off last week and replaced with the original bosch valve,throttle response wasnt as good ,fuelling didnt seem to be much different to the atmospheric bov.i have thought about a diverter of some kind but still not sure what to settle with.has anyone else tried a bov on this type of engine?
 
I run a DV30 with a k&n panel filter in a standard airbox with the 249 bypass and get the 'tsssssshhhh' although like someone has said I think its only noticeable inside the cabin, if I was you I'd stick with the tried and tested 007p or DV30. IMO £60 for a second hand DV is expensive anyway as im pretty sure a 007P is only around the £70/80 mark anyway.
