WTF, how much.

Is that for the top or bottom ones livewire?

haha ye I bought 4 before, biggest waste of money ever. Dani, go to a motor factors and just get the same size o rings for peanuts.

I think top and bottom are the same size on my injectors, not sure on others.

I got my cleaner on Saturday, its ****** tiny lol. From looking at the pics it looks pretty big lol. Not bothered at all as it does the job intended but I thought it would be much bigger from looking at pics of it lol.

Same size for top and bottom mate, I was in a rush to get these (11am on a Sat morning) so just bit the bullet and went to the steelers :keule:

Wait until you ask for a price of an injector

Cheers lads, ill try to find the size of them. Would anyone happen to know the size o ring needed :).

My mates just had one go on his 170 tdi a3, cost £850 to replace it, lmfao, told him he was a right mug for going to the stealers.

I thought i would start a new thread for this, so it does not get lost in the other one.....

This is a guide to ultrasonically clean your injectors, plus fuel pressure regulator... AKA, FPR thats what i will be calling it on this how to, for obvious reasons.
I have tried to do the how to, so a completely clueless person can understand, so dont think im being patronizing ....lol

Safety first,,,,you are messing with the fuel system, there is likely to be a little fuel lost in this process, so bear that in mind....

So to start off this is the fuel rail, where all the attention will be
img0097hm.jpg

and the FPR...
img0098z.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14

Start off by unclipping the electrical wiring loom
img0100om.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14
There are 3 clips holding the loom to the rail and simply push off
Next is The FPR pull the hair clip type thing away from the FPR.... Then pull the vacuum pipe of the FPR
img0104ya.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14
Then get a cloth and put it over the FPR then twist and pull at the same time,(be prepared for some fuel spillage) it may be tight and require some patience but it will eventually give in, put it somewhere safe for now.

next is to get the little clips off the top of the injectors that hold each connector on,
a bit fiddly, i got a small screwdriver and eased them up, make sure you dont drop anything as it will be lost forever.....put all 4 safe and pull the connectors off each injector,
img0106wb.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14

Next is to remove the rail from the manifold...(it is still connected by the fuel pipes no need to touch these)
there are 2 cap head bolts to undo (again make sure you dont drop them)

and the other one...
img0103f.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14
After these are removed and kept safe its time to pull the rail up with the injectors,
once free of the manifold you can get to the injector clips (yes more clips) these simply slide out

a pic of one out....
img0110sc.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14
take all 4 out and keep the safe, then pull the injectors out of the rail, sometimes the O ring keeps in the rail ... just hook it out and put it back on the injector
once all 4 are out you are ready for the fun part....Bath time...

Next prepare your ultrasonic cleaner....
img0115cw.jpg

By d121m at 2011-05-14

I used very hot water and a cap full of james sea solution and put the cleaner on max 480 secs
Get the injectors in along with the FPR and watch the crap come out of them...

Take them all out and shake then let dry for half an hour or so,....Clean injectors!!

Refitting is a reverse of the how to, being careful not to lose anything make sure everthing goes back the way it came off, start the car and check for leaks.....
My car took a lot of starting (well third attempt) this time round must have got a bit of air in...
so dont worry if it does not fire up as usual when first started...

TOOLS NEEDED

allen keys
small screwdriver
small pliers
ultrasonic cleaner + fluid Ultra 7000 Ultrasonic Cleaner : Ultrasonic Cleaners : Maplin

Hi Dave sorry to hijack, what size is the blue pipe you used on your N249 bypass and FPR is it all 4mm inside diameter or is it larger on the FPR, Is it just standard silicon pipe on the FPR or fuel resistant and is there fuel going through that blue pipe on the top of the FPR or is it just a vacuum pipe, and lastly what type of clips have you used Cheers mate :salute:

Thanks chris

Cheers Dave I was just confused as that pipe was going into the top of the FPR.

5.5mm allen key I think I used.

Ive just done mine, took less than 5 min to get everything off and in the cleaner, also cleaned the rail too while everything was drying. I cleaned mine twice (480 seconds each) and the first time you couldnt even see the injectors once finished but I think that is down to the surface dirty too. The second time the solution was still quite clean when finished. Will give it a drive later and see how it feels. Oh mine started first time like normal.

Woohoo just done mine not as hard as I thought stated straight away after too, iv also done the N249 bypass so next is the catch can I think

Thanks S3 Nattie.

Would that be the same size as the bolt thats used for the AIT/IAT sensor (near the throttle body)? I'm about to head out, but haven't got time to check my allen keys first!

Also, do you need an especially long allen key?

Sorry for all the questions!

Was either a 5 or 5.5mm allen key for the 2 bolts and the IAT sensor is probably the same.

Use a long nose allen key to undo the 2 bolts for the fuel rail.

Bring it round in the week and we will log your car also. I cant tell any difference if im honest. See if my MPG changes once ive driven it enough.

Ive been using it for cleaning mine and my families jewellery and it work very well for that lol.

If it works well bro why not lol. Ok I'm free until Thursday, whens a good day for you? Hopefully my MAF has bedded in then, to be honest Since I've fitted it I havnt driven the car hard just because I haven't had enough fuel in it lol!

I've done my throttle body as well,I'm doing a good 4 extra miles per gallon.

I've got the cleaner but no solution and its eems like online only.

Has anyone just used washing up liquid? Or this home made solution:
How to make a Homemade Ultrasonic Cleaning Solution | eHow.com

I wouldn't use washing up liquid as I can imagine it getting quite frothy! Water on its own should still clean it quite well as it's the ultrasonic waves that do all the cleaning work. I'm doing my injectors again this week in preperation for the Ring trip.

really must get round to doing this on the track car. got the cleaner and solution, but just havn't got round to it! I reckon they'll be pretty dirty after 206 000 miles!

Get it done in the next 2 weeks mate, you'll be amazed. It only takes an hour to get all the injectors off, bathed a few times, then all back together.

cheers, will give this a go on the weekend and keep you posted.

Any chance of getting the photos back up, they seem to have disappeared?

Check everything is back together correctly and all connectors plugged in. I had this and then realised I had forgotten to plug the throttle body connector in!

has anyone got the pics handy, ive just bought the cleaner and i'm doing it over next weekend on my 2.0tdi
