can the 'follow me home' light system module be retrofitted and if so has anybody done this

Its a mod which keeps your dipped beams/front fog lights on for a preset period of time, so for example, lighting your way to the front door.

Were these ever even offered as an option on the B6?

sorry for the confusion, its 'coming home/leaving home' function

just did a quick search and its a massive and very expensive job if you want to do it, I found a thread on audiforum.us where a guy has retrofitted it to his B7, the mod involves fitting the Auto Lights system which means a new windscreen, rear view mirror with sensors, new modules and re-wiring :(

i have also just been reading this, all i have is the auto dimming rear veiw mirror

Im all for modding but it always amazes me when someone goes to that trouble for such a mod,he must live in the darkest place on earth lol

Isn't that guide for an A3?

It would be good if it worked on the B6 A4, maybe I'll give it a go!

..... a new windscreen........

Not quite - existing Windscreen will work.

You need the "Auto Dimming RVM" with the compatible light sensor feed to a compatible "Power Control Unit", new "Auto Light Switch", new "Coming Home Light Switch", and quite a bit of rewiring.
Looked at it too but decided against it at the time. Based on what I know now it's probably not as difficult as I originally thought.
This OEM option was available on the A4/B6 - my mate has it on his.

I do have the original instructions from the original nav-plus.us (now audiforum.us) web site with all the photo's which do not seem to be there now - PM me if anybody wants a "pdf" copy via email.

i already have the Auto Dimming RVM and there is a wire that runs from it and goes under the headlining, where does it go to ? is this part of the wiring system that connects to the Auto Lights feature ?

If your Auto Dimming RVM has an on/off push button switch (8E0 857 511 nnn) and feeds 4 wires down the A-pillar - one will be the light sensor feed which comes from Pin 3 of the mirror connector to the power control unit, Pin 1. also to the power control unit (actual 12v feed) & Pins 4. & 5. Wing Mirror auto dipping signals to each front passenger door.
[Note: nnn = 4PK for black, E59 for grey, F77 for blue & 1RS for beige]

The non-switch "black" mirror (4B0 857 511C 01C) have no light sensor output so not compatible - they use a three wire feed down the A-pillar where Pin 3. Reverse Gear Signal / Pins 4. & 5. Wing Mirror auto dipping signals to each front passenger door. Have retrofitted this type mirror to mine.

i have the 'no-switch type, so thats no use !

i also have xenons so have no Headlight Range Control Switch, is this going to cause an issue ?

Not a problem - you need the switch for just the "Coming Home Lights On/Off" - Part No. 8E2 919 094 B 5PR (this is the RHD version).
