After a Re-Map on your 2.0TDI 140bhp......

Hey guys! If i was to get a Re-Map by the mystical land on AMD (Lakeside, west thurrock) Will my power increase be noticeable when i plant my big toe on that magic pedal?
Who would you reccomend to provide me with a reliable re-map
Do i get a Milltek to go with the remap, if so whats the diff between non res and resonated?

What sort of price as i know haggling can be involved :)
 
on a diesel im not sure how much you will feel, but there will be a difference (your torque should get a decent improvement), but you will find your mpg will improve, the power delivery will be smoother and it will pull further towards the red line
i dont use either AMD's map or REVO, both of what AMD do, but they know their stuff (they have done work on my car & will be there again on monday for more work) so whatever one you go with it will be a good map
a milltek is ALWAYS a good thing haha, a res one will sound OEM so you wont notice and difference in sound, a non res will be louder & had a bit of a grumble (on a petrol) so a similar effect should happen on a diesel, best thing to do is give them a call and have a chat with them, hey are really helpful!!
 
I had a non res Milteck on my TT and regretted it. It was too loud for my daily drive. I had the TT remapped by Vagcheck who were first class.

I've got mine bluefinned (basically a remap by superchips) tbh there is a noticeable difference between with and without the map. Mainly over 2k revs I find there is more power and the power lasts longer.
 
I had my '07 140 done beginning of december by AMD, went from 146 bhp to 182 bhp and an increase of 60 lb/ft. done 3000 miles since and it was definitely worth it, economy is the same but, there is a big difference in the right pedal, especially 70 mph upwards.
 
How does the remap work with DSG? Does it change gear at higher revs in D and S mode?
 
I had my 2009 2.0TDI-cr DSG Sportback remapped in October 2009. I must admit I very rarely drive in D or S and spend most of the time changing gear using the steering wheel paddles, it's much more fun. As far as I can detect with my limited use of D and S mode it makes no difference at all to the gear change points.

The power delivery is smoother and the torque is better and the overall mpg is slightly better but no change to the DSG.
 
Thanks. I must use more of my flappy paddles. In the week ive had the car ive been in D almost the whole time.
 
Wow thanks guys :) Definatly will pop down to AMD they only 10min down the road :D ..... Im a big fan of loud exhausts for some reason :p will i notice a difference in exhaust tone with a non res and will it make like a whistling noise?
 
how much roughly would a remap cost on a 2.0 TDI? Does anyone have any links to websites that will do a remap?

Can I just ask, after a remap what would a '07 170 bhp go up to??

146 bhp to 182 bhp is impressive.
 
mine went a lot better, was better on fuel too on the motorway (65mpg) and a lot more torque for low down pull

I have got a mate who can do the chip for about 250 cash and its well worth it.

all the proper kit. just not the AMD tax

I am down in Kent.
 
am map on any car is well worth it i feel!
personally i didnt think the AMD was overly expensive, REVO is a lot more expensive, although i paid considerably less then that, but that was down to a mates rates deal
one of the things ill say about AMD is that they have very good customer back up, always willing to help and their work is very good.
also with their mapping, they should know their stuff as the AMD Essex team, they run a BTCC car, so they know how to tune a car
 
can someone please give me a bit more info about a remap. Advantages, disadvantages. Would i need to uprate anything else ie brakes/clutch? Why werent the cars mapped like this from standard?
 
advantages are, better mpg, smoother power delivery, power further into the rev range, and more power in general, down side it will make certain components work a bit harder like you turbo. with a map like that all the OEM components should be fine, the only real problems are on the S3's that need clutch replacements as they are pretty weak in that car anyway, so you should be fine the reason cars arnt mapped like this from the factory is that manufacturers like to urge on the side of caution & as they write 1 map for the whole of the world they have to be very generic and account for the lowest possible emission regs, where as an aftermarket map wlll be tuned for the uk climate and be a tad more aggressive making more use of the engines potential

I had my 170 pushed to 200, and the low torque is greatly increased...the power comes in a lot earlier, and still pulls at over a ton.I could have pushed it to about 230 but that would have involved replacing the cat to a decat at a cost of about 600 squid which i found too much.If i want any more than ive got ill buy a 3.0l.My a4 is a fwd and will invite the traction control easily when wet, even in 3rd when booting it.MPG? no differance my car was **** from day one.But i have loads more poke.Run it on shell v power and its even better...seems more responsive and smoother.The cost was £330, and was a remap for my engine, not a bolt on/solder in/plug in generic map.I got colin from cnlremapping to do mine, and he keeps a copy in case it gets wiped.Hell come to you, takes an hour, and is test driven hooked up to the lappy for any fine tuning.Cant recommend him enough.He was also the first person to master the remap for a ppd engine

The remap doesent change the dsg box at all gear changes at exactly the same time but you get throught the gears quicker. I went for the revo map as the supperchips one is more tame and whats the point in paying £500 and it not feeling as quick as it could. With the fuel consumption it has made it better i can average 57 mpg on motorways doing the speed limit.As for the miltec i also want one at some point have decided to go for the non resonated go on you tube and there is a 2.0 tdi dsg with one on and it sounds quite smart, not over the top but just right.
 
whats the difference between an AMD and a REVO remap? The REVO 1 is much more expensive but offers the same gains it seems? I hear R-Tec are good at remaps - are they recommended for the 2.0TDI as well?

there is probably very little difference between them in the real world. its probably more of a case of that REVO are the big name in VAG tuning so most people will go there without looking so they think they can get away with charging a bit more
 
Agree, revo are expensive and alot of people just say they are the VAG experts.... when they are not the only ones.... I can get a Milltek exhaust and a map for £700 and tbh im excited :p What you all think?

Hi i got my 2006 A3 2.0 TDi 140 S line quattro remapped at a cost of £325. As soon as it was done my turbo was whining at idle which it had never done. Car had covered 70k. My mpg was rubbish afterwards. Cood scrape 44mpg sitting at 50 odd mph on motorways. Regretted it from day one but persevered for a couple of weeks to see if it improved. Didnt see a difference in performance. The guy that did it says he does loads of audis and has never had any probs. Maf wasnt faulty. Got the remap undone but by then it was too late for the turbo. Maybe i have just been unlucky but i wouldnt do it again

where you thinking of getting it done... the AMD map?
well the people that did my map are far from VAG experts, their bread & butter are BMWs, but they do a lot of other exotica (they have done a lot of 911 turbos, GT2's, 3's RS's, a few lambos, skylines etc), but they are very used to producing high performance maps that need to be reliable considering the cars they are going in and thats what counts as far as im concerned. to be fair considering what my car is producing im over the moon and havent had any reliability issues, apart from my clutch going, but thats a given on a mapped S3
its down to the reputation of a tuner and customer feed back is how you can judge a place, just because a place is cheeper then the competitors doesnt mean it worse (in some cases)

anyway to stop myself rambling like a nutter where you thinking of getting it mapped barnzy?
 
what are R-Tec like at mapping? ive read on these forums that they are good with petrol cars - what are they like with diesels?
