The snow as at last started to hit us here in South Wales.. Day off work for me today as i will not drive my A4 or My Polo in these condition's all the other suckers have made there way in (heroes) They will now jump in there lorries and deliver LPG gas (fools) Good luck to all the heroes that work in Wales and drive lorries,vans for a living.:applaus:
 
At the end of the day mate business won't stop because of a little bad weather
 
Mate i Have had only 3 job's in 24 year's and have been on the top of the pile in each of them. Hard work is what i have done in all 3 of them

Job 1.. Left school in 1987 was taken on at AWA & Son's small little company at first (massive company now) with only a hand full of people worked my may up the ladder to be middle manager. I worked hard and owned car's that most grown men wish they had now. Bought my first house in Essex at the age of 23.

Job 2. Left AWAndes & son in 2000 to start with London Undergrond as a Track Engineer, again worked my way up ranks started on the Hammersmith and city line to the District Line 30k+ .

Job 3. Moved to Wales in 2003 (age 33) after selling up in Essex and bought my 2nd house (worked on the house for 11 months without a break) I then joined a agency for work. Started work at a massive LPG company here in Wales and after 2 week's was offered FULL time employment over five other agency staff who had been there for 1 year.. Now in 2010 I'm foreman looking after the biggest above ground storage of LPG in Britain. I work over 12 hour's a day aswel as beign on 24hr call. And management still look at me for answer's .. Mate i have done manual work all my life. I have never sat behind a desk and never will.. Next move for me is to buy my 3rd a final house within 24 month's without the need of a mortgage. Don't give me Sh*t about having a day off, as i type this my phone is ringing off the hock with staff asking me what they should do..

fair play mate but sounds like were are some training issues at ur current place of work

With regards to attitude to work, I would have thought many of us do our jobs for the money, not because we liked it? Don't shoot the man down for being honest and direct.

I do the Manual Handling, First Aid, On/Off site Emergency Training, Comply with 3 HSE visits per year as we are a top-tier COMAH site. All the training given to me is out of house training. The escape of LPG can be devastating if an accident was to happen. We all remember Buncefield.

Thank You Very Much Jo. I work for the good things in life just like many other's Jo Happy Christmas mate. I will be working over the Christmas.
 
nothing wrong with his attitude, its the attitude to have in this sort of weather, most people on here seem to have jobs in offices(im stressin most not all ok) but the boys and girls who have to work out in this weather on sites or where ever are at risk to injury due to the snow and can easily break or hurt something badly which means your off work for alot longer than a day and ive seen this happen where i was in the coal wash, a driver slipped on the snow and broke his hand which put him out of work for 6 weeks due to him not being able to steer a 44ton Artic and he lost alot of money being out of work, ive been into work where its been 16 inchs of snow and nothing can happen anyway as most people couldnt get in so i left 3 hours after getting into work and the amount of smashes i saw due to the roads was funny and it only takes someone else to hit you and your car is damaged, day off work, lost pay, insurance hassels and your pride and joy is not the same so well done col for not going in and after speaking to you even your top boss is not in work so what does that say. well done dude. people shouldnt be too quick to put the man down for taking a day off to keep his health and safety intact and his car safe.

for those who have made it in well done and hats off to you for doing so, just make sure your safe when you travel and that office is warm enough so you dont catch the flu.

shouldnt the site health and safety manager deal with such issues? My mates Dad is exactly that and deals with those kinds of problems.
 
My manager's role is site H&S. I just comply.

No point in risking you or other people just to go to work.
you're not going to get any thing out of it from the bosses or other employees.

If you can get to work and its safe to do so, then do it.
but for my self, I'm staying home till I can safely get to work.
The bosses agree and told me not to come in today. Every one else made it in cause it was safe for them to do so but not me. :D

I enjoyed a bit of slidey today,the X-Trail in front was crawling despite the look of an off-roader lol

I remember Birmingham Airports manager was on the local news a few years back talking about the gale force winds affecting plane travel and an hour later he was dead from a tree hitting his car,anyone think the risk is too great don't bother.

Id probably love my company more if my centre manager was such a c*nt. They put far too much responsibility and power in her hands so she gets to decide the policy round attendence due to weather. The company as a whole makes it clear that our health is most improtant and if we cant make it in we cant make it in, they have contingency plans they can implement and its not the end of the world especially after one of the employees died in an accident on the way to work due to the icy conditions. However our centre manager makes it very awkward if we dont attend putting lots of pressure on for us to attend and not leave early even if theres 2ft of snow outside and nsowing heavily. Why should I put my life and limb on the line for a manager like that? Fact is a wont. Ill simply call in sick instead so I dont get forced to pay it back.
 
Very true Minty. I received a phone call at 7pm last night from my manager asking/suggesting that we/me go in early this morning to try and get thing's moving again as none of the tankers or mini bulk tankers were able to go out. I'm due to be picked up at by the manager who has a 4x4 truck who also didn't make it into work yesterday any time now (4am). The company has no back up plan as they are alway's banging on about saving money but yet they waste shed load's of money each and every day by using outside contractors 70% of the time. This time of the year is when the company makes it's money but again wastes it.
 
over 10 inchs of snow up here now, ive had to walk 2 miles down and up a massive hill where i am due to my other Audi not making it up and my mum had all the shopping with her. ill get the pics up soon.
 
Well that was embarrassing. Stuck in the middle of the road, wheels spinning, sliding from side to side, with Nissan Micras flying past me.
FWD 2.0T with DSG in the snow.... a big fat NO NO!!
 
I was behind 2 cars which got stuck about 1/4 of the way up a hill. I had to patiently wait for then to slowly reverse back down before I could go round them and drive up the hill at a leisurely pace. The S3 has its moments.
 
There's a hill at the end of my street which nobody could get up, until I had a go in the S3. I drove up there like it was a dry summers day!

Really impressed with the quattro system!

Agreed it's great to look at from your cosy living room, but a pain if you actually have to go anywhere!

Besides, it's all the other idiots on the road you have to worry about who insist on driving up your **** on a -10 icy road.:banghead: f****g plebs.

Quattro or not it's still a pain in the **** and i still worry about damaging the car, im also sick of looking at a dirty car now:(
 
I've kind of been home for the past 3 days.
went for a cycle ride yesterday up round the moors and pub this afternoon.

The moors was great fun but a bit silly at times, see how far we can slide/drift the bikes. lol

The pug and Audi has not moved since Thursday.
Its not deep here but icy. All I've heard for the last 2 days is wheel spinning of people trying to get out of the street or out of their car parking space.
Nice to walk the dogs any way. :D
