S3 Heated Seats

Hi everybody, this is my first post.

I've just been to look at a 2000 S3 which pushed all the right buttons but sadly lacked the heated seats.
Does anybody know if the Recaro seats have the elements and wiring fitted as standard? Can I retro fit the switches etc to get it working?

On the Golf 4 Recaro's, they have the heating elements installed but no wiring. The socket for this is located under the seat, have a look to see if there is a spare socket under the seat, if there is then there's a chance that all you need is the switches and the wiring loom from Kufatec.de:

On my brother's APY engined S3, he has the spare slot for the heated seats, I don't know if they all came with them or not though...

That's ***** i freeze my **** off on my seats on the early shifts! Even my last car Lupo GTI had heated leathers! Bummed.

yeah leather gets very cold this time of year its horrible sitting in them first thing the only way they will get warm is from you ! consider looking for one with the heated seats your only regret it

I'm looking at a 2000 model. So in theory all I need is these Audi A3 1.8 T Drivers Side Heated Seat Switch on eBay (end time 12-Dec-10 13:24:17 GMT)
and that KUFATEC GmbH & Co. KG - Seat Heating - Harness - Audi A3 8L 30000 ?

I've removed one, very easy takes a couple of minutes max, they are very heavy! Shouldn't take much to have a quick look

Rob heres what it says on the kufatec link looks like you need to find a green six pin block and make sure that there are wires going into it let us know how you get on

• recent Audi/VW - models identified the 6-pin (green) as standard
• a variety of airbag company Recaro seats are equipped with seat heating mats
• on request we will send a detailed installation instructions for upgrading the seat heating mats you like

cars going back into the garage to have the clutch bled and sorted out.. making a nice whirring sound.. then needs to go to ashley exhausts for a new system..hopefully this week il be able to crack the seat out and have a look!

Ok Folks, Courtesy of a foot of snow outside, no golf this weekend, so finally got round to taking my drivers seat out to fix the non-raising part of the recaro. Turned out to be a nice easy fix, as the limit switch had gone open circuit. Quick change for a similar one I had in my box of bits and all is now happy.

Took a few photos so you can see if you have the heating elements in your non-heated cars. In fact, you probably don't need the photos, as it is possible to see the wiring for the front seat cushion by pulling it out most of the way, sliding the seat fully forward and peering up from the footwell. You should also be able to see if you have the Green connector under the seat. Note that the position of the connectors changed slightly between pre and post facelift.

Well done Ali, I would be suprised if all those bits and pieces would be fitted to a seat that was never intended to be heated?

I used to be an R&D engineer for a manufacturing firm. It was often cheaper to build and stock a single variant of a particular sub-component, and just disable or not wire up bits of it, rather than keep multiple variants in stock, so it's a distinct possibility.

Also, some lucky people might have them due to supply and demand problems on the seats during production of their car.

It only takes a few minutes to take a peek...

i'd like to have a go at this, but does anyone know if the wiring will be behind the switch panel for a 2000 facelift APY? would have thought there would be a relay of some sort needed in the circuit?

As I said above, Look underneath the seats and if there is a Green connector under there, and some wires going into the moveable front cushion, then the elements are fitted.

judging by the pics i would say no as i have pulled my seats out and there is no green connector block.. however there is a free black plug next to it.. on the right hand side.. does anyone know what this is for??
