Hey everyone i need someone who can help answer this question. I'm about to order a brand new Audi A3 2.0.TDI 140PS Black Edition, now i've noticed for some reason some of the A3'S hve single and double exhausts, does anyone know if the model i'm getting has a single or double exhaust? I've noticed some of the 2litre diesels have a single exhaust, now i don't find that sporty really...kinda confused why a 2litre would have a single rather than a double.

hi, the a3 2.0 tdi normally has a twin exhaust. never seen a 2.0 diesel with a single. your best bet is to ask the dealer

I will contact the dealer tomorrow, yeah the diesels do normally have two exhausts, but after looking on audi's website i noticed some tdi's have only got a single exhaust (2010) models.

tbh haven,t seen many 2010 models on the road so perhaps they have changed the exhaust for some reason

I think its only the 2.0tdi (140) and 1.8TFSI (i'm probably wrong mind) that come with the single exhaust not the dual like 2.0TFSI and 20tdi (170). Check the black edition thread out there details on there about it though

Hi, I had my car in at Audi for some warranty work last month and i was given a courtesy 2010 A3 TDI Sport which just had a single exhaust...it just looked wrong.

For MY11 the 170 tdi. 1.8TFSI. 2.0T all have doubles. Every other has a single including the 140tdi, 1.4, etc

Ok i just looked on audi's website again, some of the 2.0 tdi's (140) have single and double exhausts...odd why they are making some in the (140) single and double exhausts, anyway i'm deffo not buying this car if it's only got a single exhaust.

The 140 will come with a single exhaust. Have a look at the Black Edition thread. Lots of recent posts about it. Seems like an odd reason not to buy a car. Each to there own. Can't wait to get my 140 BE in a couple of weeks!

Diesel cars with start/stop have single exhausts (90% sure).

Looks ok in my opinion (not as good as a twin exhaust granted) & as Petoz said, strange reason to write a car off. It's easy to change.

What's so strange about that lol. a single exhaust doesn't look right on an a3. The double gives off a more powerful sporty look to the car.

I saw a 2010 BE drive past the other day, it was a 2.0TDI and had a single exhaust, mine is an 09 1.8TFSI and has a twin exhaust, does look better with a double but as said, can easily be changed, the older BE's that I've seen driving have twin exits, maybe it's one of the new changes for the MY11 A3?

Danny.

Single suits me just fine and dandy,

its only a pipe and a valance change if you don't though.

Are all the new tdi's (140) start/stop models, if not then some might still have a twin exhaust, or is the new (170) twin or single exhaust? I won't buy an A3 with a single exhaust just looks plain silly!!

Piort is right and as far as I can establish (try www.audi.de configurator is correct. UK version is crap). I even asked in a French Audi garage recently who confirmed this.

Boy posted a comment about a 140 with twin pipes. The 140 Quattro (available elsewhere in Europe but not UK) has 2 pipes for some strange reason!

So pretty definate..the 170 has twin pipes even with SS. The 140 has single pipe and I have to agree with boy looks a bit naff.

As our 170BE Quattro Sportback has been put back from week 40 (2010) to week 7 (2011) not sure we wil still be replacing our 08 version. Mrs like the look of the Guilietta Veloce 170 ... any thoughts folks?? (they have whacking great twin exhausts one either side!!!:crying:

My order is now scheduled for April 2011.

As for the Guilietta - Very nice car and really considered it but it's just the Alfa reliability that scared me off otherwise i probably would have got one, saying that though i can't wait for my car now especially after seeing richy's pics.

I will be able to confirm this debate in about 6 weeks with pictures when mine below 'apparently' arrives ;o) Its still on schedule though and has actually moved up a week from 29th to the 22nd October.

But from all I have seen its 140BHP with single and 140BHP Quattro in Germany and 170BHP either Quattro or without with twin pipes...

You’re very passionate about exhausts pipes, I Test drove the 170 Guilietta there’s even an option for over sized exhaust pipes.

But I can't drive round in a car called "Guilietta" :sadlike:

So I ordered a BE.

Good man! I looked at a Guilietta and foundvit typically Italian - i.e front fog switches on passenger side of dash - wtf?

i saw a 60 plate a3 2.0tdi s-line black edition and it also had the single pipe i think its only the 170 tdi that has got the twin and the 2.0tfsi and the s3 otherwise all models have got the single pipe

How do you know it was a 2.0Tdi fnmrst? Audi have taken the engine size badges off new ones to save money!! ;-)

the one i saw said 2.0tdi on the back of it maybe the owner must have said to put it on when it was new but it had it on the back

The new ones do not have engine designation from the factory. If a new one has a 2.0 it must be stuck on after or as I suspect an older model (our current 08 has 2.0Tdi with QUATTRO badge underneath) new ones drop the 2.0 bit.)

I took delivery of my A3 TDI 140 S Line (10 Plate) in July and it only has the single exhaust. Have to say the twin pipes look much better...

We have a Apr 10 Sportback Sline 170TDI 170 DSG which we ordered new, and it has twin tailpipes and "2.0 TDi" badging on the back. MY2011 must of changed the badging styles....

Correct! As shown in other posts Audi has dropped the engine capacity on all models..

I've recently received a 2011 MY A3 SB Sport 140PS, (Mid Sept '10) with the single exhaust pipe...It's a big bore but definately not a twin pipe! Car also has 2011 tweaks such as the different front end, black gloss grill, little chrome flashes ontop of the door handles. The new 17 inch Kinetic alloys are fab, a bit like S3 wheels but come as standard. The dealer did'nt have a clue about the changes for the 2011 MY!
Car is fantastic, much quieter than my 2006 model, built fantastcially well, I think this car is built as well as my mates new 911!

140 single 170 Twin... don't understand why but reckon the twin looks much better. Wonder if the new 2012 A3 will hav etwin (one on either side)?

Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a brand new A3 Sportback, 2.0 170bhp Black Edition in Lava Grey
(with a few extras, sat nav comfort pack, heated seats etc etc)

BUT im unsure about the exhaust!! I have heard different things, and the dealers dont know!!

Will it have single or double? Please help!

Im new to the forum

Cheers!

Singh

i think there should be a sticky on this

1.2T, 1.6TDI, 2.0TDI 140 (any trim line) - single exhaust (chrome is S-Line or BE)
1.4T, 1.8T, 2.0T, 2.0TDI 170 (any trim like)- double exhaust (chrome if S-Line or BE)
S3, RS3 - double oval exhaust

1.6, 1.9, 2.0 (140) TDI's and 1.2 TFSI come with a single exhaust outlet now, the 1.4 TFSI upwards comes with twins and i think the 2.0 (170) TDI comes with twins as well

correction duly noted, though there's no 1.9 engine anymore
