What is this, and why is it making a noise?! (pic)

Hi guys.

The thing surrounded by a red circle in the picture below (sorry - shamelessly stole the original pic from another post...didn't have a camera to hand!) is making a loud clicking noise. It only happens once the engine has started to get up to temperature, but it's so loud that I can hear it over the sound of the engine...even with the bonet closed!

Anyone?

Charcoal canister.

as above its the carbon canister valve,it operates on idle(tick tick tick),allowing vac to be pulled from the inlet and draws fuel vapours from the tank via the charcoal,all to do with emissions.

Does it really make a difference to emissions, just asking i might remove it?

its atmospheric emissions,but most carbon canisters only last a few years before they need replacing,i do what ive done to all my cars when modding,bin it !

Thanks guys, but what should I do about the noise? Honestly, it's REALLY loud, and I'm pretty sure I don't hear the same nosie on other cars! Do I need to replace it? I don't want to completely remove it, incase it screws my emissions up at MOT time...

as above it will have no effect on what comes out the rear,its probably a old valve,you could remove it,it probably wont bring on the engine light but be stored in history.

Mines really loud too always has been i dont worry about about it as its supposed to be like that and at least its not coming from the engine :icon_thumright:
