DB5
porsche 356 speedster
Original gull wing merc

Ohhhhh.....

For me.....
Lambo murcielago
Ferrari F355 Challenge
E36 328 :rockwoot:(sorry)

AwesomeMike

Mike,

I love the DB5, and the Merc, however (even the Porsche fan I am) I'm not overly keen on the 356, i'd replace with a Ferrari 250GT Spyder California...Ferris Bueller was pretty cool right??

Some excellent choices so far.

For me (in no particular order):

Ferrari F40 (the first hyper car IMHO and the last Fezza commissioned by the legend himself)
Lamborghini Countach (just for those looks that were so futuristic when it was launched)
VW split screen 21 window Samba Type 2 (if that counts as a car?!)
Mk1 GTI - the original that stuck two fingers up to the so called sports cars of the day lol

its either a ferrari 288 gto

orrrr.... a bugatti veyron

i chose one classic, and one modern.

of course there are soooo many others, includin the DB5! but if i saw these, (i've seen two veyrons on the road, some rich **** has two near me) i would be like... wow, that is cool!

the 288 GTO is a good call actually, the original F40! There is a good piece on this head to head with a Porsche 959 in this month's EVO magazine, well worth a read.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Audi UR Quattro yet, I think they're pretty cool

Some good choices here.

250GT definately in and the Speedster has to stay if only because of its association to James Dean.

Murchialago - As much as this is my current favourite car, cool??? im not so sure, I think flash is probably a better description.
F355 Challenge - An undoubtable drivers car. However, the fact you'd have to explain that its a challenge model would probably make it uncool if we were to use Clarksons rule of thumb.
F40 is a tough one, probably the ultimate 80's supercar, but would non-car people appreciate the lack of carpets, the pull cord for a door handle and the fact that the paint is so thin that you can see the bodywork through it (all this impresses me, but to a non car nut?????)
Countach - Undoubtable the best looking supercar throught the 70's and 80's and lets face it Cannonball Run wouldn't have been the same without it - but when I think of it now, all I see is DelRoy from 80's band Five Star standing next to his outside his mock tudor house in Romford - sorry uncool!!!(unless you are a Five Star fan)
VW Camper - Uber cool but only in the VW Scene, not exactly the car to drive around casino square in!
288 GTO - Ok I know Magnum had a 308, but if I had this I'd feel i'd need to grow a moustache and unfirtunately I can't
Veyron - magnificient - but cool???? (again if you had a DB5 in your garage and a Veyron, which one would you use to go to Monte Carlo in??
Audi UR Quattro - Only cool if doing the monte carlo rally, but once i'd won that I'd want to arrive at the after party in my Gullwing lol.

Just my opinions guys

Must admit, I forgot about the 288 GTO. Was effectively a mule for the F40 as it turned out but never got the same glory. At the time it was also only the second Ferrari to wear the GTO badge so must have been special. The F40 still shades it for me though. Lack of carpets, drawstring handles, plastic windows etc. just add to the coolness for me!

And the Mk1 GTI ?

And the Mk1 GTI ?

Cool in that it was the first wave of hot hatches, but there lays the question, can a hot hatch be cool? Again i'd ask if you had the DB5 and a Mk1 golf which would you use to portray the image of ultracoolness?

I think a Mk1 Golf GTi is kinda cool, but almost a different level of cool. Like I think a Mk1 Cortina would be cool too, and maybe some other cars of that ilk, but certainly a different kind of cool to a gullwing Merc, DB5 or the 250GT for instance.

Fair point, well made! I guess there are really two questions here - first, what is the coolest car to you; and, second, what do you think is the coolest car to the rest of the world (which could even be split into those with an interest in cars and those without)?

My wife for example simply thinks any green car is cool !

Mercedes AMG CLK GTR Roadster, Only 5 produced (roadster) and only 25 hard tops ever made....

Most beautiful car ever, don't care what anyone else thinks.

Well for me the coolest car ever is easily the S1 Quattro :D

but a new interest has popped up the re-birth!

Audi_1-L.jpg

Audi_2-L.jpg

but outside of Audi I would go with the Lambo Countach, yes i know Audi own Lambo lmao but still it's gorgeous and i know for a fact that anyone my age when they were 11-16 had a poster of the Diablo so it'd be a contender also

Quattro, MK1 golf, VW Camper, all cool in their own right, but would they look cool parked on the dock next to this:

No....no no no no no no no! That's about as cool as a white range rover sport with 22" chrome wheels!

haha this is one hell of a debate.
i guess firstly we've got to define 'cool', because so many 'cool' cars are cool in different ways.
we could make leagues of cars.

the supercar premiership:
1. bugatti veyron
2. mercielago
3.even more so than the mercielago the Reventon!-would look absolutely perfect next to that boat. good call btw!
4. ferrari 360 challenge stradale - my boss has one and when you go in it and hear the thing....it honestly takes your breath away!
5. zonda R. if you saw one, you'd have a hard on for days!

next is the supercar classics league lol:
1. Ferrari 288 GTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. countach.
3. aston martin DB5
4. ferrari F40
5. jag E-type

the motorsport homologation league:
1. UR Quattro - no questioning this one!
2. MK2 escort
3. lancia stratos
4. lancia delta intergrale evolution II
5. metro 6R4 - admit it, you think a metro is cool! i mean it had a jag xj220 engine!

Who is making the call the driver, or spectators who want to be the driver?

Lets face it a DB5 would get the spectators vote but its handling isn’t that great, whereas a Lotus 7 may not pole so many votes on looks but would more likely be the drivers choice of the two.

A Porsche 356 Speedster whilst being a great candidate in the dry, but would be a pig in the wet and have any pedestrian just pointing and laughing at you, that ain't cool.

So for what its worth here's my wish list;
Autobahn - Veyron

Tight twisty mountain roads - Triumph Speed Triple in the dry or RS4 in the wet.

Cruising around scenic roads - Ferrari 250GT Spyder California, possibly a Lotus 7

Making an entrance at an occasion - Bentley Azure

By the way walking around afterwards with a soaking wet backside isn't cool, nobody will believe how you got it

Haha, everyone has a different version of cool, I like my Mk2's, and a MINT Mk2 GTI G60 is cool in my opinion, and to a certain extent, a dream car of mine, but I wouldn't pay stupid money to own one! It's affordable though...

Sorry JoJo I was actually replying to the response above regarding that "boat", but took me so long you must have got your post in first. I love Mk2 GTis mate, good call! With the BBS wheels?

But I ask you this:

If you had a DB5 in the garage and a MK2 golf (G60 lol) and you were going on a first date with Jennifer Aniston (or anyone of your choice) which would you take?

if I was taking Jennifer Anniston out for a run down Wickford High St, and then on to the Bekash for a ruby on a Saturday night then most certainly the Golf GTi ;)

Personally I lover iconic cars, Jaguar E Type, McLaren F1, Audi Quattro........

For a date, the DB5 no doubt, there's noway I'd risk getting my Golf G60 scratched on a frikin date!

Classics - the Ferrari 250 GT SWBs going around Goodwood revival recently were just sublime & just about topped the DB4 that I was pawing all over coz it was for sale.

Modern - Aston Vantage V12 in light blue...

Didn't even notice classic cars until recently - must be the midlife crisis approaching...
