Hello,

I'm replacing my front anti roll bar (body to bar bushes) very soon with a kit. The bushes i need are 20mm dia.

What im confused about is why does the kit come with the long bolts ? shown is this link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A3-TT-FRONT-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-BUSH-KIT-/220537482801?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33590eee31#ht_900wt_704

The kit im buying is a Febi (great quality, German built). This just comes with bushes, brackets & bolt for bracket. Why does the ebay one come with the long bolts & nuts.

im really really not a fan of febi, been let down by a few of their parts in the past

for rubber components, trw, lemforder or oe only. ive had febi bits fails between 11-13 months on many occassions

A little of topic but, does anyone know if it's true about vag arb's have plastic sleeves around where the bushes go? Was over on the tt forum the other day and a few people said they had to bin their arb as the plastic sleeves had cracked, now could you not just replace these, one fix was to order a smaller bush, now I'm about to change the bushes on my front arb on a s3, do they have plastic sleeves?

They do as i've seen them on mine.

Matt i see what your saying but compaired to First line & FAI which ent a spot on Febi in my eyes. Not many do the bush kits. Im not buying that rubbish off ebay.

£7.99?? Man they must be sh*te!!

Hence why im not getting them. Look at the metal not even painted there cheap china crap.
Im getting the Febi's less than them too :o.k:

i fitted a brand new tt front arb on saturday just gone. no sleeve on the arb at all.

the oe bushes were rubber with a fabric liner where it made contact with the arb itself. the fabric was about 3mm thick and looked like the woven material that makes a cambelt etc

I've seen that matt, i wonder what powerfelx bushes are like then, i dont believe they have that fabric. Matt has the arb i'm getting off you got any sleeves on it?

Can anyone confirm that the front anti roll bar on the s3 is 19mm on the actual bar! I've been on the phone to powerflex and they said aslong as the actual bar is 19mm then it doesnt matter about the sleeve been their as the powerflex bush is designed to sit directly on the bar.

no sleeve at all on the arb thats making its way to you

as a guess, the plastic sleeve will reduce squeeking. i think s3 also has plastic sleeves as apparently mine have let go, according to audi dealer.

Yeah the one's i supply at work have the fabric inner on them, so does the Febi's.

As for the size's there is 4 sizes that i've looked into 18mm/19mm/20mm/21mm, (not sure if this is companys making extra part numbers or not. Prob best to speak to Audi on that) but at work we list 19mm & 21mm. As for the poly bushes there great but powerflex are pricey i get mine from the states :icon_thumright:
http://www.prothane.com

1.6 / 1.8 = 18mm
1.8 T = 19mm
1.8 T Quattro = 20mm
1.8 T S3 = 21mm

BUMP !!!

Right i've fitted the Febi ARB bushes, i smashed the plastic sleeve off & they fit no problem at all nice & snug also removed the noise i was getting before. Bit tricky to fit but was all good after though. I fitted 20mm Febi pro kit quite cheap & a decent kit with new brackets & bolts just to let you all know.

Shot ARB bushes make the front suspension sound like the world is coming to an end...lol. Glad that's worked out for you :)

I know this morning the drivers side had come away from the plastic sleeve & was clattering on the floor it thought what the hell is this. I fitted the drivers side tonight. More work on it tomorrow at my mates garage ow what fun.

BTW Welly, Crank sensor has let me down twice since so fitting a new one tomorrow :)

My sleeves are knackerd.
Fitted a set of gen bushes last week which quietened it down for a while.. But now the noise is back, guess ill have to bit the bullet and fork of £57 for a new ARB.
Also, the bush brackets supplied by audi dont have a power sttring pipe mount on them, neither do any of the non-gen ones ive seen, there shouldnt be any reason to change the brackets though unless there caked in rust/ corrosion.

Sizes, i thought s3 ARB with sleeve is 19mm, without sleeve is 17mm, as a few guys on the TT forums have broke the sleeves off completely and fitted 17mm bushes.

Well ive fitted 20mm bushes & there snug thats with the plastic sleeves off. Dont buy a new bar just get smaller bushes.

i think a later revision of the front arb lost the plastic sleeve so it could be a 19mm bush required or if you have a plastic sleeve 23mm. I assume the plastic sleeve was used either as a shim to make 23mm (therefore they only need to make one size bush for all models) or the sleeve is there to allow movement but whats the point in that ?

Pah, i'd prefer to keep it simple.
I may get dementia and forget what bar/bush etc.
So, Correct ARB and matched bushed ordered by reg today £63. done.

Now just need to find the balls to drop my subframe down.

That's correct. I don't have the part numbers to hand for the bar and bushes but I've changed the lot recently. The newer bar has no sleeves. I was lucky enough to get the bar from eBay, new for £5 plus postage. Bushes to suit were about £4 each from my local Audi dealer.

I'll dig those part numbers out later.
