Just a quick one - where do people jack up the 8P A3 (or the Mk5 Golf). All the ali suspension parts scare me - and I dont wan to use the sill point without a converter for the hydraulic jack.

Any pics and info greatly appreciated.

On the subject of the 3.2 front brakes I have a couple of questions :

1) How do the damn retaining spring come out??????

2) Is undoing the 2 slide bolts all thats needed? Once the spring is out will the caliper come away from the retainer????

Its been confusing the hell out of me!

Cheers guys

I did the brakes on my 3.2 a couple of weeks ago, you need to force and prise the retaining springs out they do come. you then need to remove the caps at the back of the caliper that the alan key nuts are under and then remove these. Don't undo the two start bolts the ones you need are covered by a black cap which you need to remove before undoing with the alan key.

On the jacking side of things i cut a grove in a piece of 2x4 and used this ontop of the hydraulic jack on the jacking points.

Hope thats some help.

Hi Tac,

Thanks for the info. I guessed it was the 'guide' bolts under the caps - I undid them - but couldnt remove the damn clip! Does it just come out towards you (away from the caliper)?

Regarding the jacking points it seems a lot of people use that method - but where do you place axle stands once done?

Thanks again

Martin

Alright Martin,

You really have to prize the clips out towards you, i used a screwdriver under the centre of the clip and then prized out with some long nose pliers, bit of a fiddle but they do come. Alot easier to put back thna take out.

I'm painting my calipers on friday so will be removing the clips if you're still struggling i'll take some pics to show you.

I haven't had mine on axel stands and will again on friday be working this out.

Stop being so nice with those clips and give them a good wrench!!!

Good luck

Tom
