Hi there guys,

2006/55 A3 2.0T FSI S-Line with DSG, half leather, MFSW, light and rain sensor pack, Symphony II, BOSE and rear parking sensors.

the modding bug has already hit me hard. i've got facelift lights coming tomorrow, after that i've got a list as long as my arm of things i wanna do to it!!

opinions? suggestions? your thoughts would be welcome!

S.

PS yes i went out and fixed that crooked dot on the 2.0 as soon as i saw the photograph :p

Facelift lights coming tomorrow, care to elaborate if you mean front or rear?

rears. i know the fronts don't fit :p. any ideas about those MY10 wing mirrors yet nigel? btw i've changed my mind again and decided that anti dazzle exterior mirrors are unneccesary. i've lived without them perfectly fine!

so just to recap i just want standard (heated) dumbos with indicators that work.

cheers!

cheers for the kind words guys. i'm hoping to get an S3 like most of you lot when i can afford it. won't be until the next model is out by the looks of things.

Congratz on the new car! Looking good, lovely alloys aswell. Any plans for it?

do you really wanna hear all this? well first on the list is the '09 rear lights. after that i wanna replace the rear bumper with the facelift one, and give it a dual tip Jetex exhaust. after that tinker with the engine a bit (neuspeed power pulley, EVOMS CAI), then some interior stuff (RS6 wheel, TT vents, RNS-E 2010, BT and AMI with iPod dock in the ashtray - found a cool little kit for that), then suspension stuff (maybe TT front arms if i can afford em), and finally a remap (i don't really think it needs it tbh, but then again i've just come from a 1.6).

i'm sure you guys will have many more suggestions for me lol.

Haha aint we all after an S3! Hopefully i'll be getting mine at the end of the new/start of the new year.
Yeah i want to hear it lol! You got some good plans for the car then! Bet you cant wait to get everything rolling. I got an 1.6 now but had a 2.0tfsi s-line last year for a few months. But couldnt afford to keep both so the 2.0T went. And still with my boring 1.6 lol. Yeah thats the thing with ASN you think you finished modding and then some one does something else and you want to get it done. Congratz on the car again and enjoy im sure you will

The power pulley is a waste of time! It jus reduces the power to your PAS /air con / and alternator ( with different pulley ratios and reduced drag), it will add about 1-2 bhp and is most effective when your on full lock- ie parking and dont need that extra couple of horsepower!
Best of with a turbo back exhaust with your CAI and stage 2 remap

just got em from Audi. they were £165. tried looking on eBay, but they rarely come up in RHD form and when they do they're not much cheaper when you factor in postage

The power pulley is a waste of time!

i've heard it completely eliminates the turbo lag (not that there's much anyway) and gives you a little more low down grunt.

A reduced -drag pulley kit would not really have anything to do with turbo lag LOL or low down grunt.
Turbos have lag because they requrie a certain amount of heat and kinetic energy from the exhaust gas to spin them up so they can compress the air, a new pulley kit as no bearing on this at all.
It will let the engine rev slightly more freely and use a teeeny bit less fuel, but for the price of the kit and fitting its not worth it.

Maybe if you were going BT and needed that one last mod to finish things off, but certainly wouldn't bother doing that before TBE or atleast downpipe and cat.

surely the engine revving more freely will allow the turbo to spool up faster

Not really ,the turbo will spool up at the same revs and require the same load to spool it up as before, you will just reach those revs a tiny bit quicker, but the improvement is negligable. If you want your turbo to spool quicker then you need to improve the gas flow through the turbo , with a large bore downpipe and even a tubular manifold if you were going BT. Alternatively you could lightenin the turbo by clipping the turbine blades so its spools faster.
A pulley does nothing to affect gas flow properties in the exhaust or turbo.
As I said before this kit will have a negligable improvement esp for the cost.
A TBE or just downpipe and cat will make a HUGE and tangibile improvement in your turbo spool, and with right ecu map will get good low and mid range torque /power gains, unlike the pulley kit. That's why hardly anyone bothers with themM

i've heard that it does make a noticable difference, but each to their own.

PS for future reference i know how a turbo works

MM..from west yorkshire by any chance?

parents are. i live in Birmingham but am up here visiting them for a few days. if you saw someone in it today driving like a nutter it was my sister, not me :p

My TT vents came today. Fitted them this evening. Sorry for crappy photos. Poor lighting + iPhone 3GS.

For those of you interested in this mod, search for anyone breaking a TT and ask them for the vents. They are a direct swap, no mods needed and should cost around £100 - £120. As an alternative you can try TT Mk1 vents or S3 vents, but personally these are my favourites. They match the metal trim on the glovebox perfectly, but aren't quite a match with the brushed alu trim i have. you won't notice it tho, and they still look fab.

The only tool you need is a flathead screwdriver.

Step 1: Turn your vent so the dot is 45deg from straight up, around the 1:30 position. You'll feel a little "click".

Step 2: put the flathead screwdriver behind the rim and give it a good tug. It'll need a fair bit of force.

Step 3: rock the vent upwards and downwards and side to side and they slip right out.

Step 4: Push your TT vents in.

Installation time: <5 minutes.

a big thank you to NHN for the inspiration. as far as i know he's the first one to do this mod.

Eye, I beleive I was, but I will also be the 1st one to do further mods with my TT vents, watch this space :p

thanks for the input, but i think we have slightly different tastes :p. can't get a short shifter or clutch anyway cos it's a DSG and if i get an exhaust i'll get a Jetex for reasons that might become apparent in a month or two. CAI's gonna be a VF one with an EVOMS cone, for no other reason than it'll look the best and any money on bodywork will be spent towards "doing a Phil" on the front end. S-Line only - i hate Votex NHN, and my car's not an S3 so i'm not gonna make it look like one. would like an RS6 wheel and a retrim. didn't think i'd need an ECU cos i have an MFSW already (and the car's an 8P2), but not looked into it and budgeting for an MJ full leather interior trim with red double stitching. suspension i haven't considered, but i hate the dropped on it's **** look. i'm gonna do the TT front arms as soon as i can i think, and i know that lowers the front by 20mm for some reason so i'll see what needs doing on the back after that. RNS-E, BT and iPod is fairly low down the list. it'd be nice to have but my old 1.6 had Symphony II and BOSE and so does this car so i think i can survive a bit longer.

It was purely in reference to bodykit, as its the only one that suits the 8P full stop, anyother kits just look bolted on & tbf, fecking awful, you can view it as making it look like an S3 or you can view it as improving your Sline etc, cause the difference in looks with Slines & S3's is minimal anyway, so adding the kit doesnt make it an S3.

subtle enhancement is the aim of the game. i like the S3 grille and if i don't put an '09 front end onto it then i'm gonna mod an 8P2 S3 grille to get it to fit onto this car but at the moment i'm up to something else. hopefully all will be revealed shortly but i need to get that parking sensor solution sorted first. just waiting on prices and available times from you fella - but as i said before there's no real rush
