The reason I ask is that my car is 4 months old now and I have never thought that the A/C gets that cold, it's nice but not quite cold enough. This was further compunded yesterday (being a very hot day) when I had a lift in my friends Mercedes and it was so cold we had to warm it up a bit.

Now this led my to think that mine shuld be getting quite a bit colder, and wondered how others rated the A/C in their A3, particulary newish ones....??

Cheers

Nick

ive had the same thought about the a/c (s3 09 plate) ,just never seems to get to the ice cold as some a my other motors have ,my other halfs suzuki vitara is colder !!!!

lets hope someone can advice eh ,,,,,,,,,

Exactly the same in mine, 08 plate sport, but it's never ice cold. Even in my prev 04 plate, was exactly the same. Just maybe how the audi air con is?

Thats such a let down if thats the case, I was hoping a re-gas might cure the problem and get things chilled out a bit more..

I remember reading an earlier thread a bit back and everyone said theres were cold but not like other cars. Shame as my A6 was really frosty and great on hot days but alas not this one!

Don't sweat it mate (see what I did there), it's the same in mine too. Same for my last A3 also.
Holding my hand in front of the vents I always end up thinking the air should be a lot colder than it is.

Although to be fair, it does the job. Wouldn't want it making the car any cooler than it already does.

My 206 GTi's a/c was IIICCCCYYYY, and never used the coldest setting for this reason.

Glad its not just mine then, my work van gets ice cold so is brilliant in this weather but the A3 is sort of bit of a chill oppose to ice cold

I was thinking about how mine doesn't get that frosty whilst driving on Sunday too. It's pants compared to my dads 7 series, now that is too cold!!

Mine is the same. Not really cold, more like a breeze.

Car is 6 months old

Even when i turn climate control to Low it just blows more warmish air not any colder

ehh mines ****** freezing had to turn it up over weekend as it was way to cool on two separate occasions.
mine must have been re-gassed or something?
mines a 55 plate A3

Mines a MY 2006 and is also ****** freezing ! Have to turn the nozzles away otherwise it feels like frostbite setting in !

Maybe 2005-06 had a different system ?

Mine is an 04 and I think it gets pretty cold. Takes a little while to get there though but suppose that is to be expected. My previous cars were too old for air con, so its a nice luxury to have if I want it but generally refrain from using it as I seem to get ridiculously less mpg with it on! So windows open jobby for me :(

my 53 plates is fine without being freezing but I've heard the A3s isnt particularly cold compared to other cars. Are people using the recirculate button to avoid car pulling in warm air from outside?

haa haa Mr Shell does indeed get visited far to much by me! But also my own fault for having such a heavy foot!

well its a bit better since gettin its ecu flashed so around 34mpg - 35mpg on a good journey but locally nearer 28 ish lol but if pushing him...well can be 19mpg-24mpg lol But Iove the sound...far too much!

lol, good job I didnt get the 4.2 V8 I nearly got lol!

I did . Never really tried the aircon on for long, and cool, because its thirsty enough.

My A3 (2003 8P) is cold enough for me. Not sure if its icy icy, but enough. I don't use it much anyway because of the economy issue. Full low with the econ button and re-circ is fine for me. Only VERY occasionally does the econ button come off, lol.

mine is a 05 and the aircon works but like everyone else its not cold enough. it takes ages for the car to cool down to a comfortable temperature. In my golf it used to be icy and cool the car down in a couple of minutes...
might just get the aircon regassed on my next service.

34mph - 35mph on a good journey...

34-35MPH is NEVER a good journey...

...well can be 19mph-24mph lol But Iove the sound...far too much!

And my car doesn't sound very good at 20MPH, either...

-I think you might mean MPG.... ;)

:nyah:

You're all wimps...!

Here in FL the outside temperature gauge has been in three digits for weeks now...

The 8P A3 does have a less than icy Air Con, but here's a couterintuitive tip... Turn the fan speed DOWN, and the air gets colder.

Basically if you run the ventilation fan too fast, it overwhelms the AC evaporator's ability to cool the air passing over it. -It runs COLDER if you run the fan slower.

I have to run the A/C about 11 months of the year here, and I and my colleague (who also drives an 8P) both comment that it's not the greatest.

It makes a big difference to use sunshades if you have open-skye, though... and get the windows tinted with a good ceramic tint.

Certainly in my S3 the aircon isn't very cold at the "LO" position, but in any case, even with 38 degrees in Spain it buids up in a few seconds a nice and fresh airflow.

Had my aircon serviced and regassed the other week as it was not very cold.

Its much better now but still is not as cold as other cars i have had.

So guess its normal.

Used mine this morning to give it a run as I havent given it a blast for about a week, and I would say that mine is just right really. It isn't blindingly hot outside yet though (between 18-20c) so that could be the ultimate factor really.

Definately colder with around half fan speed in comparison to full blast to confirm what someone said above somewhere.

Which of the two air circulation buttons is the one to use to stop hot air being taken from the outside? guessing the Auto one, but not sure as I havent really used those buttons :uhm:

Hi Nick
I hooked my A3 up to the air con machine at work the other day, only had 40% refrigerant this is quite normal in new cars as the manufactures know that they will have to charge you to re gas it when it runs out, as this is regarded as consumables. (my cars only done 250 miles).

runs very cold - so far.

Nick,

Can you please explain what 'air con machine' you hooked your A3 up to?
My 2010 A3 (6 months old) with climate control suffers from the same problem as everyone else's on this thread - cool, but not as cold as I believe it should be.

lately my air con stinks like a wet dog.. how do i sort this??

If it's smelling, you need to get the system cleaned, it's usually because the a/c hasn't been used much so all the air in the system gets a bit crappy allowing bacteria to grow or something. Google it and you'll get a better idea.
