Amazing MPG from 3.0???

Im sure the trip computer is lying through her teeth (has to be a woman). I dont boot it and i drive like an old man, slightly tapping the gas every now and then, letting the car cruise along. A technical i discovered whilst being a student and having a V6 Golf. lol

i really dont know how you could get that figure on the 3.0!! i've never got mine over 19.3, let alone 36!!

well... yeah... now that you mention it.... but it's also a V6, quattro, with the same peak power but across a wider rev-range and with 100lb/ft more torque.... so thought it would be worth pointing out for comparison (and showing off)

Mine will get 40+ if I stay away from town traffic (25-30mpg) and then I just need to behave when I hit the open road (very variable mpg!): on continental schleps, a long stretch at a cruise controlled 75mph returns exactly 40mpg, 100mph returns just over 30mpg.... plodding at 55mph gets in the high 40's or low 50's.

No comparison these day (never thought i would say that) diesels have far more useable every day power than petrols ever will rpm matched because of torque ,
and i hate to say this again but diesel economy matched with torque is unbeatable for everyday use .

I went from a high-revving (high lift cam'd) 150-odd bhp 2.0 8v (Mk3 Golf GTI) to my current car.... despite the Audi having all 4 wheels driven, having 40% more power and lugging about 500kg's extra.... I still get at least 20% better fuel economy (36mpg avg vs 30mpg on a good day).... still, that Golf topped out at around a GPS-verified 150mph, compared to 140-odd mph in the Audi.... that is if u had the balls to hang on that quick... and it felt even faster with the roof down, no that I ever did more than 130 with the roof down, that would just be silly

My last car was a B5 S4 with over 300bhp ,
but i still love the Tdi for good allround ownership
