Audi S3 value and depreciation.

There should be a gentleman's agreement to artificially keep A3/S3 prices up

cough

Not sure if my 'Y' is cheaper... My renewal is £245.00.
Its on the changeover.. but seems to have all the facelift refinements.

to be fair most Y's i looked at did have most of the bits..... you can tell by the interior handles, if they are chrome it is a mid lift car, if brushed alloy then full FL

Ive seen a few other S3's round here. Started popping up since my purchase lol

I paid £4300 for my pre-facelift Silver 2000 model S3, with 89k on the clock and full audi service history. The car was standard except the tinted windows, which is what i was looking for.

I know it's hard to predict the future, but i am looking at buying a 2003 model S3 in a couple of years or 115k. How much do you think i can expect to get back on it? Baring in mind it will be in mint condition, and no money will be spared for parts and servicing.

MArk...impossible to say

JDAS, the only things i know of are the interior door handles on the mid are chrome, the ESP button is a bit more clunky when pressed, not sure the mids had the brown tinted wing mirrors.... thats all i know of but im sure theres more underneath

i know for my pre face A3 had loads different to my facelift car and my misus's facelift A3.....right down to bits beneath the surface like brake light switch, interior roof handles, clocks, air vents....plus loads more...unsure what crossed over fully without inspecting

im sure they are all as good as each other, i just can feel the move from pre to post..... the difference is obvious and not just cosmetic for me..... but the variables are very wide and so opinions may be varied

It's sometimes depressing to see the price for my car plummet, especially as I bought mine just before the crunch for probably above average price, but it does make me want to keep it for longer and get the best use out of the money spent/lost in depreciation. Especially considering that I have put so many things right with it.

The best thing about it is that even after a couple of years of ownership it still makes me grin every time I get in and start the engine... Depreciation??? Who cares!...

... sorry, just realized how completely off topic this post was :w00t:

Looking at this i payed way over the odds for mine 9 months ago :(
cest la vie.

On the plus side i have brushed interior handles!

Agree with Leshkin here, I paid good money for mine and to sell it obviously there is deprecitation to take into consideration, however I just cant bare to make the loss and would rather just hold onto it and keep it.

same here :)

more keen to keep due to the brushed interior handles :) and the grin factor, even driving the misus A3 which is tighter than mine (as most bushes have been done) ....there just isnt the same feel or knowledge that you have wide arches hehe

S3's have always been good at holding money, I gave £4k for a '99 with a little over 100k but lots of history, almost 2 years ago. admitedly I was in the right place at the right time, but I like to think I could still see my money back for it now.
Can't see S3's ever being a £1500 or even a £2k car unless it's a proper ropey one. Hopefully they'll be like the s2's and start gaining money again lol.

Recently sold my 2002 S3 with 75k miles for 8.5k. It was a good spec and in VGC.

I have an s3 mk1 with 72k miles owned from new and whilst this post is majorly old I'm looking to offload and wondering what the best way to do so is, I'm Bristol based, can give as much or little info as preferred but felt here woukd be the best place to ask

Interesting thread. Few observations as i have a few s3 8Ls myself, all are pre facelift though, and i bought these with the intention of keeping one as my daily runner and the other to store, actually let go one on of the tatty ones recently which was more of an experiment of restoration for the others. Ive always felt the pre facelift far more appealing over the facelift, much more akin to the early S2 vibe and styling. The newer facelift i can't stand the rear light clusters and the same with the front lights and the interior center console. All of it crass.

One of my S3's is a V reg with 3 headrests across the back, uber rare i believe, never seen that in one? Doesn't have ESP either so must be v early.

So ill stick my neck out and say the prefacelifts will become a collectors classic first.

Changing tack slightly not long ago i was eye'ing up the Escort mk2 Rs turbo (89 DEFG ongwards) seemed pretty cheap still didn't bother, now they're going silly in price. It will happen with the S3 sooner over later

Also note a significantly lower amount of traffic on this forum over the years which i believe is indicative of a drop (i know some are on facebook now)
