Something i found that might help all those people who`s DMF fail and Audi refuse to pay to replace for free. The following link gives official recall vehicle ID numbers from the VOSA. If your car`s ID is listed Audi will have to replace the DMF for free as it should have been recalled. It might be a good idea if the mods make this thread a sticky as it would save a lot of people money. The link also gives recall numbers for other thing that can go wrong that Audi should pay for to replace.

Remedial Action : Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and establish the manufacturer of the two mass flywheel. Where necessary replace the flywheel and the breather of the clutch pressure pipe.

Yup my flywheel went and i checked this before i got it fixed, but mine isn't on the recall. Mines 66A048797 (not that many out) so Audi basically told me to go home.

Is this relevant to S3's as well?

If yours is on the list I would get the flywheel changed anyway. As it's free anyway and also results in a gearbox service (new oil) and a new clutch. Get one back on Audi for all of us who they've shafted

Do you have to change the gearbox oil when changing the DMF?

I'd assume so seing as the gearbox has to come off to get to it. So before taking it off they would have to empty it.

hi all , my vin number comes within the range being *5a119695 , obviously i can contact audi but are they likely to fob me off either saying its been done or doesn't need doing due to its age 2005 or 90000 miles, ive checked the history which was main dealer up to last year and can find no record of any recalls being done.
I just dont want to look a prat when i call cheers

Don't understand the * bit....

Mines 8p25a138***

Do I need to take it in???

anyone have any ideas about my previous post ?my vin falls in the range ?

My old A3 2.0TDI that my wife has now is on the list, had the car since new and never had a recall to get this work done.

Its always been serviced by Audi so would they have checked it on a service visit and not said anything?

Great news! Will call audi up tomorrow :yahoo:
How long does a flywheel change usually take? Courtesy car if I'm lucky haa!

My A3 2004 2.0Tdi, falls into these chassis number bracket's, it's done 112,000 miles and is starting to show symptoms of DMF wear, if I phone my local Audi dealer and inform them of the recall, will I get a new DMF fitted for free? or am I just being thick?.lol

Have you phoned your local audi then?

Yes I phoned my local dealer who says that there is no recall for my car. My chassis number falls into the ones given though? Should I ring Audi Uk to see whats up? dont want to be faced with a DMF bill a few months/ years down the line...

Guess you should give Audi UK a ring to clarify on that matter, that's if you want to :)

Mines on the list.
After 10 months of missfiring and timing chain issues, I finally get mine sorted and find something else to worry about lol!

Hehehe. I think mines on the list......

Think my Exhaust is blowing now as well Julian :(

Yep, can't have anything on my own lol! MOT time soon so hope it goes through OK, don't fancy a £1200 bill for a new downpipe.

So how do we tell if the DMF is on it's way without it being obvious? especially if it's a DSG car so you can't feel the clutch?

Hehe I'm looking at supersprint exhaust wise but wondering if they are abit loud.........

Sorry for bringing a thread back from the dead but did anyone here have any luck with Audi?

I contacted Audi in Ireland (VW Group) and they didn't have any recalls listed for my car even though the VIN number is listed in the VOSA recall. They thought that it might be a case that the recall had been done by Audi UK and may not appear on their system.
I rang Audi UK then and they couldn't see any recall on my car either. They gave me a build date of 24-May-2005 which would correspond to VOSA's details.

Does anyone know where VOSA get their info from? Is it direct from the manufacturers?

Audi seem to fob us off with this info, like it never existed.

Damn i think mines going! But Audi said it's already been replaced in 2008 under the recall. :(

Hi all, im Dan, new to the Audi thing. Got a A3 2.0 TDI 140 S Line Quattro 2005. Not had my car that long, well 6 months, and the DMP is shuddering and i was looking into a new clutch and geting this done at my own expense, but after seeing this and i think my code comes into the numbers, audi will replace it? anyone go the number to call or Audi UK number? sorry if im being blind! my number is WAUZZZ8PX6A017911? and help would be very greatful:) Cheers

I called audi about this as mine falls within the affected list. They told me the only recall listed for my car was coil packs with were done.

youra has probably been done then! I spoken to audi UK, my carwas affected and my DMF was replaced in 2006 on 7000 miles. its now on 64000 and going again which i said isnt that many miles to be spening £1500 everytime! Nothing they can do apparently and they wont replace it again because the parts warentee obviously ran out in 2008 and they only recall it for the part once:( New clutch and DMF to save for now then:(

Just spoke to Audi CS who say that although my Chassis # falls in the recall list, and although it hasn't ever been checked / repaired;

They have no history of it needing a recall, and it would cost me labour to diagnose.
They also say they would only probably contribute to the cost if it is indeed part of the recall list (last main dealer service 2 years ago, 26k ago).

Are they pulling my pisser or what?

I would think that surely, if a cars VIN number falls into a recall list check category, then regardless it should be able to have a free check / repair completely - or at least provide proof to me that it has been done or is not affected?

Also, she mentioned due to age and mileage, that even if it is a recall they may only contribute towards the cost, not pay in full.

I mean WTF.

They make a part unsafe and not fit for purpose. WTF does age and mileage have to do with it?
If they changed it 5 years ago when they should maybe it would be OK?

picked up an a3 2.0 tdi with 110k but havent had any issues with the DMF, should I still get in contact with Audi about it?
