I really think I need to be cleaning out the sump and pick up pipe soon then as I've only just changed my oil after 21,000 and my car has just hit 125,000!!

When I changed the oil I put 5w30 in it with the intention of changing it again in 6K

Hi everybody I thought I better introduce myself and join in the fun (cough cough) on this forum. I'm Jonny or Poke13 as I am called on forums etc. I have owned my S3 since April 2010 and have been starting to read up to make sure I have got all bases covered. Been in the background on this forum for a while but am now starting to feel like a real S3 owner due to the fact I am having the usual problems including:

1 - S***ing myself that my engine is full of sludge ready to completely knacker my engine! (direct link with this particular thread).
2 - Annoying rear washer not working due to a leak that today I found is leaking from somewhere around/below the sub in the left hand cubby.
3 - Drivers side window not going back up properly, this should be the widely known cracked old plastic clip!

Well I'm sure there are more but they are the 3 main ones I remember at the moment!

My car has done 78k and has been on longlife (im pretty sure anyway) and the oil has not been changed many times in its life, reckon worst case scenario only 2-3 times!! Longlife is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I bought the car before knowing about longlife servicing but now I know it really is that rediculous. This oil pickup thing really is my main concern now other things like the window were but now this definately is! I have the MOT in a month and money is tight at the moment so I am hoping the MOT goes okay and I can work out some way of doing this oil pick up job.

Due to a lack of tools I can't see me being able to do this job plus I am not very experienced in mechanics (only a little on my old Mini).

At the least for the time being I will be gettin my oil changed as I bought it with 75k and the oil was absolute filth, so the garage I bought it from got it changed at an Audi Specialist in Sheffield. So this oil has done 3-4k and is looking pretty black probably because it is just picking up all the **** from the previously filthy oil. The garage I got the car from included a 6month warranty and hasnt sent the paperwork and theres only just over a month left! Would love to know what my cover is for the last month I've called the guy 3 times and sent email got nothing back so Im going down in person asap!

In terms of Oil do people think its either 5w30 or 5w40 (both fully)?

Can you do this job using ramps with wheels on or is it a jack up wheels off job?

Sorry for the long rant type post :)

The rear washer jet is easy to fix.

Remove your airbox, under neath it their will be a black trunking running up into the windscreen/front wiper section, remove the top of the trunking, in their, there will be a platic tube that will be joined in the middle, this will have come apart, simply puch it back together and wrap some eletrical tape around it'll, itll now work an stop the puddle of water under the passenger side.

think his is leaking in the boot in the passenger side cubby.
I have had it leak in both places! its just a case of locating a joint in the pipe somewhere above the sub.

I have really got to do this! I thought my s3 hadnt been on long life intervals. checked the history today and it was on longlife until 75k, now on 104k. I dont fancy tackling it on the road, my mate will be doing it for me as he has a lift.

Yeah theres no doubt it is leaking in the boot near the sub I have got photos showing the bucket of strong smelling red/pink washer fluid, you can smell it as soon as you approach the rear of the car.

Yep this longlife is a pile of horse s**t.

Found out today my car now has a slight keying mark on drivers door! Great!!!

there are mickey mouse washer pipes joints all over they just pop apart. its just a case of finding them and pushing them back together and securing them somehow.

Thanks for this Lee great before and after pics. Sump looks amazing after not so much before though but I would blame that on Audi!

Really wanna do this on mine as mine is on 78k so very similar situ. Think I may have to see if a mate at a garage near could drop the sump so I can clean it or something, haven't got all the tools needed and buying them for this jub would just make it too costly I reckon!

I have noticed since people have been saying that my dipstick has also cracked at the top, it still locates and clicks into place but half has chipped away over the years of heat etc, Im sure to find pieces of that in there!

How much **** was on/in the gauze filter on the pickup?
