So I had an amazing new Audi A7 with a huge list of options. However my wonderful wife runs the show and I have had to sell it in order for as she puts it "buy our dream home".... Now firstly let me say I bloody loved the A7, but I had to get something cheaper... So as this car will be my work car and I love audi's so much I decided to start looking at the Audi A3's. I should also point out at this point that I am not a fast driver and never been into fast cars always opting for luxury and comfort over speed. Now that all being said I have bought a 2010 Audi S3 with STronic BE lol. I bought the car mostly because I loved the body on the car that I could not find on the standard s-line models.

So I collected the car not thinking much about it until I drove it home and oh my god WOW what a fun car to drive... My wife seems to now feel I have turned into some boy racer every time i drive up the road, much to her disgust. I am just having loads of fun in this car.

Now this is where you are all to blame:
I decided to look on this forum to see what other owners thought of their S3 Audi's and you have all caused me a world of pain ;-)

People like Silky-S3 who's build thread is very inspiring and has me wanting to do so much to my car that I have had it only one week and already bought the map/reading lights with ambient lighting, puddle warning lights, footwell LEDs, the VAGCOM lead and had cruise control fitted. I am already heading towards a stage 1 REVO map and CAI.

People also like Paulie who fitted a RS3 front grill and this is killing me to resist buying one. I love the RS3 grill and I am trying to tell myself I don't need it and its not a priority but I can't help it!!

Poli84 who has made me want to put spacers on my wheels and clean up the rusted and dirty centre hub.

In conclusion all your inspiring mods are going to cost me a fortune because the look of all yours makes me want to do the same.

    what a Car :)

I feel your pain, I hate all the people on this forum. Spent best part of 5k on the car this year and just been quoted for another 3 1/2k worth of work. I was happy with the car as standard, is it worth it? Hell yeah :)

Glad to hear you're loving the new car :)

modifying really is a bug - I've been out of it with a standard car for 5 years now but a few weeks on here and the bug is right back!!

:) great post! It is addictive. I sold my S3 and bought a Golf GTI which I promised myself was just going to be stop gap until I had established the business enough to buy another S3. So far I have bought some BBS alloy wheels, CAI and a few minor bits and I am currently weighing up some coilovers! Stage 1 going on very soon as well.

I have been glued to this forum and have really enjoyed reading all the build threads. Everyone on here really gives new people an understanding of what the possibilities are with this car and how to go about it. From a simple LED light in a footwell to full blown engine modifications. I have become so addicted I have the forum app on my iPad and phone so no matter where I am, if I am bored I just read all of the posts on here.

So as a question: the Revo Stage 1 mapping and CAI kits, does that effect the Audi manufacturers warranty at all? What about servicing with Audi? As Revo is software based will an Audi service undo any of the engine map?

    Thanks

    Skipp.......Re Audi Service & Remap

If for any reason they have to do any diagnostics.they will most certainly notice it and duly correct it.

This happened to me.before the A3 injector problem came to light.

Result was, couldn't find anything other than software needing resetting,so we did that for you.

Thanks a bunch. Knew immediately that they had given me my OLD car back...buggers.

Had to go back and have it redone..only a 10 min job though.

if it has something to do with engine, they'll probably say it's remap related as that's the easiest thing for them, and they hardly like to do the warranty job (at least here). they'll try to take your money anyway they can.

That's a tough one to answer really.

I have a 59-plate S3, and my standard manufacturers warranty ran out last week.

I've had my S3 for 2 1/2 years now, and finally bit the bullet and decided to modify it 4 or 5 months ago. I was initially worried about effectively rendering my warranty invalid, but I took the plunge anyway - an easier decision to make than you, as I only had 6 months left anyway.

Funnily enough, I actually had a fault with my S3 around 6 weeks ago, and took it in to Audi to fix.

There was a problem with the 'Haldex Clutch Pump'; and as a result I couldn't get any traction whatsoever.

Despite still being under warranty, I felt for sure that Audi would charge me to fix the fault due to the modifications I've had done - but to my surprise, they didn't say a thing and the car was indeed fixed under warranty.

I certainly wouldn't have been in a position to argue had they tried to bill me for the work carried out..

I reckon I had a lucky escape, and I think you have to be willing to accept that you might get stuck for the bills if you start having problems and they notice the car has been modified...

Basically anything you alter will invalidate the warranty on that part of the car.

So if you modify the engine, the drivetrain warranty will be invalid.

Having said that mine happily ran 440bhp with no warranty type issues at all.

When we went above that, the gearbox did need rebuilding but I am convinced that the loose bits of brass in there were from the start as the box did whine from new.

A number of us are running big turbos on this car with no problems but whenever you modify the engine remember to forget the long service intervals and go to much shorter ones.

Mine has an oil and plugs service every 5 000 miles but is pretty heavily modified.

Audi dealers generally ignore mods unless there is an issue.

My Audi dealer told me they couldn't give a stuff if the ECU had an APR tune and they would honour any mechanical issues under warranty. No I didn't get it in writing but I did get an injector replaced under warranty and the car had the new APR tune. Funny the head service guy told me his S3 had a Revo tune.

Lol. I was the same with my 8L S3, hence when I changed, I changed to a diesel. 4 months on and it's still standard!
