    Hi

Regularly reading this forum and following the popular threads about the S3 and how the vast majority of people are happy with their new S3's, its given me the itch and it's coming to the time where it needs scratching!

I bought a derv (8P) over a year ago and it's great on the daily commute but it just doesn't excite me or make me want to just take it out for a drive, the passion and flair is non existent. Had it remapped and well the performance just isn't quite cutting it so came the endless hours of review watching and reading over the new S3!

    Looking for a 8V S3 Sportback Manual from around September/October 2013 <10K Miles
Here's a little list of the absolute must haves

    HDD satellite based navigation
    Cruise control
    Acoustic Parking System
    Audi Sound System

Now having settled on the model /spec it comes down to the usual ££££! So my question is what would you be looking to pay !

    Cheers

    Ricky!

Check out the Golf R... might be better value for money. I think S3's will be thin on the ground and costly. Almost makes one buy a brand new one from a broker, with hefty discount.

My dealer (Salisbury Audi) seemed to only have very high specced S3's second hand available. When I was looking to buy mine 6 months ago I had been driving to the dealership almost every other week checking out stock and for the most parts they never had many demonstrators. I know this specific branch would order cars, put them in the showroom, sell them within days and then never had any to test drive. It was frustrating actually.

Long shot of all this was they were either super expensive (even after a 10%) discount because they had every option box ticked or never appeared on the forecourt as they were sold as soon as they landed.

Think you may have to travel far and wide to find a low spec one at a dealership at a good used price. You might be better off getting a new one with a good discount.

Wow yeah I'm not quite at the point of regularly visiting the dealerships (I hope it paid of for you!) but spent the last few months watching the used car space and seems to be pretty quiet with the values remaining pretty constant although they are "ageing"! The only thing that's on my side is time as there's not really a pressing demand to have another car tomorrow!

Tbh the spec I quoted is a minimum I'd like but again a fully specced one isn't what I'm after either leaving such a dilema how long to keep hanging on for before just going for it but even then any advice on what you(anyone else) would pay for one would be useful! Fortunately I spend half my time in Aberdeen and the other half Gatwick so pretty much most of the country is within a four hour drive if it comes to travelling!
And if only I could persuade myself to buy a brand new one but justification hasn't quite been reached yet!

(Mr Lapou - no disrespect did I not make it clear that I was after an S3?)

I think a car with the spec you mention under £27k will be a push. Looking on Audi approved site seems to suggest second hand values are high.

Would you need to finance the car ? If so then getting new might be a better option noting the usually cheaper finance and the deals available.

I looked at used, but with the 12% APR (vs 7% for new) and the fact that they either had too much spec or not what I wanted - the new deal always worked out cheaper.

You might be surprised with the new deals. Take full advantage of a desperate sales guy (every dealer has one) and he will make a new deal work for you. There appears to be more incentives available to a dealer to shift new.

If you don't need to part-ex and you are prepared to travel you would be wise to give someone like drivethedeal a call to see what discount they can do......

That's what I was expecting about £2k down on the website the Audi approved seems to have a few around £29.9Kish.
Second hand values almost seem to be artificially high especially when some of the cars are coming up to a year old and are still up for £31K:motz:!!

Yes I would need to finance the car but with a pretty large deposit.
I think I'd only ever be tempted to go new if the dealer put in a deposit contribution, that is probably one of the best pieces of advice:icon_thumright: I'll keep an eye out for a younger salesperson then! It's a real shame that there's less incentives on used cars otherwise I'd have handed over my cash already!

Just go ask the question. I kept looking and decided to wait until my A1 (previous car) was nearly at the end of its PCP before looking at swapping. Then one day I was sat at my desk day dreaming about an S3 and spur of the moment decided to go down the local dealership in my lunch break. Within 30 minutes talking through figures it became clear a deal could be done. If I hadn't have lost my patience that day I would have waited another 6 months.

You might just be surprised with what they can do....especially if you go towards the end of a sales quarter.

Yes you did. Was only trying to give advice. No offence taken.
I had a demo in fairly high spec S3 s-tronic via JTC600 on Lincoln. Mental car to drive and exhaust noise in sports mode was well wicked...
Found steering too light, auto main beam too slow to react, lane assist distracting, Tpms gave bogus warnings etc.
Hope you find the car you are looking for.

Try the used car search on the main Audi web site, you may find something tempting..........

Your missing HDD satellite based navigation which is a £1500 option. So it's a bit more than £28.5K

I finally got the urge to go to Audi Aberdeen today and took an S3 Stronic Misano red 3dr out for a spin and well :yahoo: it was great, but bloody hell how do any of you guys keep onto your licenses ! Wasn't quite convinced by the Stronic it was great with the up changes very smooth and immensely quick but when decelerating I just felt that it was hanging onto the gears a little too long rather than down changing and not allowing much engine braking.

Went through the usual finance stuff and got pretty close to where I wanted it to be but just couldn't get close enough even though a lot of people on here have been getting 7-8% discount I could only negotiate £1.5K off a new car:3sadwalk: but the most shocking/ interesting point was that my spec of

S3 Sportback manual, Sepang blue, tech pack, cruise control, Audi sound system

came out with a build date of April 2015:wtf:!

Goes with the territory. You can be doing over a hundred in one of these cars and it will feel like nothing to you.

Yeah I can see that, would be without trying either ! took it out down the dual carriage way on the way to Bridge of Dee and down the A90 for a while and gave it "some" beans

Just don't know what to do now - letting the dealership think about it and they're going to get back to me.........

Yep - my dad is getting an A3 out of stock from our local dealership where they are quoting Feb 2015 for a bog standard Sport and April 2015 for an S3.

Not sure if my dealership has run out of 2014 allocation though....that can explain super long lead times. You might want to look at another dealership to see what their allocation is.

Aberdeen I am sure has the highest sales in the UK. I suspect they do not need to offer 8-10% discount to make a sale. Someone else will probably come along and buy with 3%.

If you were now thinking of a new one then you may want to try what I did.
I took delivery of mine five weeks after ordering it (to my spec too). I managed to get the dealer to allocate a stock S3 order that was still just configurable to me. So I was able to change it to suit without the long wait.

It was a large dealer chain and I was able to get quite a good deal with trading in a few months old A3 184 diesel.

Might not work for everybody but perhaps worth a try?

And it turns out they are not interested in offering a further discount not surprised as I did get a glimpse of their order book and there is rather alot of S3's on it so loosing a sale clearly is not going to bother them as like you said someone else will just go and buy one at 3% off.

On that note I have decided to get in contact with a dealership closer to Gatwick .... here is for hoping that they have a better allocation!

Sounds like it might be a great option as I am not sure I can personally wait that long (9 months!) might go nuts reading all the posts in the forum with everyone enjoying their cars!

I think VW, based on the previous Golf R failure and current competition are making deals so tempting, at the end of September I reckon it will stop as they will have achieved their build allocation targets. Hence the focus on brand new sales, not used.

A good priced used one would be plenty available March next year I imagine. Some may crop up at the end of this year.

If you are not too fussy on spec then some dealers might have cars in stock. Our S3 came from Edinburgh Audi who are part of Lomond Motor Group who are in turn part of Lookers. They also have the Glasgow, Stirling and Ayr Audi dealerships and when we were looking in mid June, they had three S-tonic S3 Sportbacks available plus a few others on their way (although I think the specs were locked down).

They also had manual Sportbacks available and some 3dr ones too presumably. Some had big spec though, panoramic roof and LED headlights, super sports seats and a 5 year warranty - that kind of thing but we got one that almost matched exactly what we wanted and only waited 10 days from order to delivery.

You may find it cheaper to buy a new car rather than a used one, even if the used one costs less - because Audi offer much better PCP deals on the new cars. I ordered a TTRS when I was actually buying one used (it had done 4,000 miles). It worked out cheaper on the PCP to order a new one. I know, makes little sense to me either, but it was the same deposit for both cars and the finance APR was lower for the new car, plus they had some promotion on. I got it at 4.5% in the end... worth looking at anyway.

Phone some of the bigger dealers in the UK, who are groups and just ask what they have in stock in the group.

I couldn't be bothered waiting for a new one, and the dealer found a band new one in group (other end of the country) to more or less my exact spec.
I was in it within a couple of weeks.

Salisbury Audi have a fairly loaded 3dr black S3 S-tronic with tech pack, SS seats, LED headlights etc up for £37k.

For whatever reason they can not shift it. Its been there since February. S3's usually are sold within weeks of landing at this dealer.

Sometimes a dealer has one like this for whatever reason hasn't shifted - ones like this will usually have a great deal / discount attached to it as it needs to go.....

They also have a very tasty Daytona S3 cab with red calipers. I had a slight moment when I saw that......looks fantastic!

So having now spoken to my local dealership down near Gatwick I have been quoted a £1500 discount again (4.4%) and lifeshine as well, they did however manage to spec amend a car for mid November delivery but have to decide by tomorrow morning. Monthly payments at £360+- a few pounds.

What do you guys recommend !

    Cheers Ricky

I found that too, same deposit and similar payments. Of course ignoring the balloon it just didn't seem worth getting used.

Guess its how you feel, I was armed with 10.5% discount from DTD and ended up around 8%, it shows as 9.1% but they added supagard so I ignore it.

The aim is to lower the total amount through discount, deposit, p/x, as this makes the monthly payments cheaper.

For me, anything lower than 8% I would have walked and they knew that, love the car etc but couldn't justify it to myself if they gave a poor deal.

Don't let that put you off though, as I said its how you feel.

Feeling a little pushed into deciding in less than 15 hours from being told there is a car that I can have before they release it and sell it to another potential buyer apparently, plus the more I keep reading here about the discounts people have got the more I get the feeling that the deal just isn't right at the moment and should hold out longer do more research contact orange wheels, dtd etc plus as I am in no real rush (maybe its the shiny new car syndrome, heart says yes head says no!)

Never, ever feel pressured into a decision, you always make bad decisions when you do.

Feel like you can walk away and be strong yet polite with the dealer. Let him know you are serious, but that any decision is on your terms or you will walk away. Remember that you are always in control and at the end of the day you are paying for this 'service' and product. If you are not happy or feeling pressured, walk away. It is too easy to let emotions push you. I have learned the hard way after making some bad decisions made on the spur of the moment and when under pressure.Turn it on it's head and go and see the dealer when the pressure is on him near the end of a month or quarter and he needs those sales figures and commissions.

Also remember that this month is the worst for trying to make any kind of deal.

Why is this month the worst?

When I viewed the Golf R the dealer said the deal would be valid until I walk out the door, then calls me two days later, tbh your sales person may be telling the truth but its up to you in the end.

I went in with the solid view that no matter how much I wanted it if its not good I will walk away, thankfully it was good and I went ahead.

The worst thing you can do is let temptation overwhelm you and make a bad decision, and don't let it taunt you if you don't go ahead.

    PS. that's a disclaimer to say don't blame us, it's your call!!:audibash:

New 64 plate sales, so no pressure to make up sales numbers this month, and probably next with people wanting new cars and plate.
