I have been slightly involved in a warm discussion about the S3 v R32. I had an R because I liked the sound and the look and the comfort. I sold it because it was very expensive to modify. I now have an 8L because they are much cheaper to modify and the look and comfort are ok but not as nice as the R.

If VAG made an R32 Turbo I would have one in a heartbeat because being turbo it would be much cheaper to modify and the results could potentially be in supercar territory. If money was not an issue would you chuck in your weedy 1.8t for the V6 3.2t?!!

You could buy an S4. 6 cylinders and two turbos. Check out MRC's website.

    Having said, I'd have a boosted R32.

Not me.... to much running cost. I am not skint, but I am also not that flush.

If I did have the candy I would buy something else to be honest. So thats a no from me.

Sweet car though.... Been inside one and loved it.

Would be nice but it all comes down to the 'food chain philosophy' in the same way Porsche fiddle with their own variants, i.e. cost-to-power

    S3 265bhp
    R32 246bhp
    S4 339bhp
    RS4 414bhp
    RS6 572bhp

A r32/s3 V6 turbo (remapped) would likely be quicker than the RS4, so VAG would have to stick turbos on the V8 RS4 to distance that model (if they re-made one), turbos on the R8, Lambos'....where would it end?! With all these emission regs engines are going to get smaller so its all wistful thinking unfortunately...

With 8P S3's running 310bhp with a simple remap, would there be any need for a R32 turbo?

A 3.2t could make 310 bhp on idle!!! 9 for and 3 against so far. Think we need to send a petition to VAG....

WHAT DO WE WANT..... R32 TURBO. WHEN DO WE WANT IT.... NOW!

If i had the cash a MKIV R32 Turbo would be my ultimate car :)

If any-one saw the R32 Turbo @ spring fest it was an absolute animal must have been close to 500 bhp..

Audi have come up with a new 3.0 supercharged engine which has found it's way in the new A6 (and S4):

    [IMG][IMG]

Has 300 bhp and the new direct-injection engine is derived from the existing naturally aspirated 3.2 litre V6, using the same bore with a shorter stoke. With the addition of forced induction, the compression ratio has been lowered from 12.5:1 to a 10.3:1.

Imagine this engine in an S3 sized car with a few decent mods...

I think if I were to turn the clocks back a year Id have waited 6 months and bought an N/A R32 as they were a few grand more than the equivalent S3.

For the money a turbo R32 would be I think i`d switch to a proper sports car tbh but if it was cheap enough then it could be a option.

I bought my 2003 for 13k and the same year R32 were at least 15k at the time for a half decent one, granted with less miles though.

yup stands to reason, although i think you've highlighted that theres nothing in it...... i think the tables will have turned a little since then

Voorhees looked into this coming to the conclusion that it would be a false economy given the weight of the R32 lump ....great straight line speed but **** in corners i think the theory was

I don't think I would opt for a turbo'd R32 personally, although it would be an incredible car. If I had the money to buy and maintain a car like that I think I'd be looking outside the hot hatch sector, although admit whatever I bought would probably be slower than the R32!

For me, an S3 with some light fettling is everything I'd want out of a car in this class - speed, comfort, refinement, safety and image all rolled into a great package. A turbo'd R32 would obviously trump it in terms of speed (and arguably looks), but not by enough to off-set the increase in running / maintenance costs.

I was interested to read the post regarding the comfort of the R32, I always imagined the S3 to have the better interior and more comfortable drive? Learn something new every day!

well it stands to reason if you look at it logically... you would think the S3 would be the flagship given the VAG groups structure.... be a matter of opinion like most things, i havent driven an R32 so cant comment.

What i have considered recently and am in process of checking - running costs etc, is an RS4, that is where id go to get into the high power stakes....

Its all personal taste really. I felt the R32 seats you sat in them and the S3 seats you sit on them. Also the R ride is firmer so it feels like a more sporty drive. The S is comfy too but I just preferred the R. But Mr Noisy Exhaust Scooby couldnt leave me today!! So the Revo'd S3 is delivering nicely.... To conclude, I like bits about both cars which is probably why I started this thread...

    But low mileage.

I still cant afford one but more I read this thread and see them....!

Saw an RS4 in the car park on the way to see a movie at the Cinema tonight... stunning! I best save the pennies for either that or an R32 I guess.

This year's captain at my golf club has just retired and splashed out on a 08 RS4 Avant.

Guess who lives round the corner from him and will be his taxi driver for most of the next years golf matches.:eyebrows::whistle2:

    Cheers,
