    Hi,

Just had my S3 in for a 10K service and Haldex Oil change at an audi specialist in the West Mids. Was originally quoted 98 inc v.a.t. for the service and 65 inc v.a.t. for the haldex oil.

When I went to pick it up they said they had seen evidence of swalf in the haldex oil / filter and so had also changed the filter. However, the cost went up to a whopping 147 for the haldex oil and filter, the explanation being extra labour to replace the filter.

    I am now worried about 3 things;

    (a) the swalf in the oil / filter and implications of this

    (b) that I have been ripped off

    (c) whether they have used the right engine oil as the receipt only says 15/40 engine oil.

    Can anybody reassure me??

    Thanks a lot,

    B.

All I know is that Docklands Audi charge £160 for a basic Haldex oil change. Time to move to Birmingham I guess!

  3. sound about right for the filter change, the oil come in a cartridge form so you could always check the type of oil with audi. 10 k for oil change is a little early normally oil at 20k and oil and filter at 40k. if they found swarf then they did right changing the filter. Don`t worry I think you did alright.

here's some costs from last year for you

    02D 525 558 A - Haldex Oil Filter - £20.43 + VAT
    G05 217 5A1 - Haldex Oil cartridge - £9.19 + VAT

These are main stealer prices. typically most dealers book time for haldex oil on its own is 0.7hrs labour, Oil AND filter usually 1 or 1.1 hours labour. Parts wise then the increase is about £24inc VAT...however i would be a bit cheesed about how much extra labour costs they loaded on..many audi garages make little if not difference labour wise if doing both.

As for the engine oil it should be 503.01 (504.00) compliant oil if yours is an S3...preferably 0/30W oil....but Mobil 1 is also compliant and is 5/40....just ask them to confirm the type they put in if you're worried.

Confused about the oil. According to this old post linky non of the 503.01 are 15/40. Is this list out of date or may I have the wrong oil? Is 503.01 for all S3s even if on fixed servicing?

Sorry I know these questions are old hat.

    Cheers,

All S3s whether on AVS or fixed servicing need to be using 503,01 compliant oil. To my knowledge there is no 15/40W 503.01 oil....it seems you may have been given the incorrect stuff. Depends on your outlook as to how worried you should be ... however if it was me i would want to be replacing it if not immediately on a shortened interval.

Now I am worried as I have just checked and there is a thin film of brown scum under the oil cap.

Garage will be getting a good blasting in the morning.

Why do so many garages seem incapable of putting the correct oils in S3s? Hacked off.
