Workshop time to fit a clutch

Need to replace clutch on my S3, Audi say 8 hours seems a little long to me.

Does anyone know roughly how long it should take?

labour time is 8hours, so most companies will go by book time not many places do work like clutches on time taken etc as then the job isnt so worth while for them.
it can be done quicker i took 3hours getting my box out and 1 1/2 hours to put it back in but it also took me 1 hour to get the box to mate back onto the engine as the transfer box is annoying, so thats 5 1/2 hours working flat out on my own car not many mechanics me included will do a job that fast if it aint there car or there spare time,
 
yeah audi say 8 hours i swaped my gearbox from 5 to 6 speed 2 weeks ago didnt change the clutch took just over 6 hours quite straight forward aslong as u drop the subframe witch i didnt at first so could take another 30min off for that:yellowrs4:
 
Yeah 8 hours is right is a big job im told.

HA one garage quoted me 12hrs laughed and put the phone down, its a lot longer on a s3 than a 2wd a3 though thats for sure

Thats something i would be interested in doing myself...try and get better milage on the motorways...... did you aquire any relevant info whilst doing it ???
 
I had my gearbox and clutch changed in under 6 hours(including a lunch break) from a gearbox specialist. They wanted the car for 8 hours, but called me 2 hours earlier to pick the car up. I think they have to factor in for the inexperience mechanics and allow for a bit of time for a rest or problems during the job. No one is going to work 8 hours in one stint are they?

so how long would it roughly take for a a3 2wd then?
im guna be getting mine done soon
 
Yours wasnt even in the workshop at 12:30 Nige, i parked next to it when i went down.
(ps., nice tidy motor youve got)

no just swaped straight over ive got a3 quattro turbo sport aslong as ure swapin on a quattro its easy all selector cable are the same but there differnent if ure fwd the clutch an selector cable differnt between 5 an 6 speed:yellowrs4:
 
audi quote about 1100 plus vat for s3 or any quattro clutchs and fitting lots of tuning copanys eg amd technick are doing great deals like fittin clutches for 200 quid +vat on quatros u just have to buy clutch kit frm them so u could do an upgraded clutch an it would still be cheeper than audi:asskicking:

Hiya, yes they rang me at 10:00 to ask if they could keep it until tomorrow as they didnt have a ramp spare, so I had little choice but to say yes, it annoys me that having booked it in over a week ago they somehow are overbooked to the extent they hav not got a ramp free, to my mind its a no brainer they would need a ramp all day for it. Ho hum, i will be very non-plussed if its not ready by midday tomorrow.
 
I had my clutch done a few weeks ago, including Master & Slave cylinders and four wheel allignment, but thankfully no Flywheel needed. £800 all in at APS Brackley.

Total labour was 8 hours.

Well now on day two and Plymouth Audi still have my S3, they just rang to say that it does need a new flywheel as there are signs of heat or something on the old one, so hopefully get it back tomorrow now, will post costs on here etc once I get over the shock (I'm guessing £1,300 ish).

i reckon it will be more like 1500 then gutted for u mate theres a good lesson to be learnt here NEVER GO TO AUDI unless ure just buyin parts there to expensive i think its over £100 an hour +vat labour charge witch is way to much:keule::sign_unfair:
 
8 hrs is right, took me 10 or so one my back on the drive. The flywheel is usually changed at the same time to save labour costs at another time, although they do regularily fail.

Shame you already have the car in Audi, as some specialists will do 'offers' if you buy the clutch from them

Well, finally got the S3 back this evening, new clutch and flywheel duly fitted - the damage to the wallet was £1,364.16 including VAT and the usual lloyal customer discounts etcetera. I'm hoping to be able to get back the flywheel cost back from Warranty Direct which will ease the pain somewhat. The good news though is the car feels brilliant, nice light clutch action and much lighter than it was before, plus its now got 2 years Audi warranty on the work should it let me down again.

Funny had new clutch and flywheel in mine to day.
£1,364!! god glad was under warranty
Went in at 8:00am done by 2:30pm
6 half hours
